I love to hike in the high peaks wilderness area and make the five hour trip there three or four times each year. This hostel is conveniently positioned outside of Lake Placid about 1/2 mile from Adirondack Loj Road and convenient to many of the high peak trailheads. If you like hostels, this is one of the good ones. It...

Tmax-N-Topo's is ideally located for hiking the Lake Placid High Peaks. Once you step in it feels like home. Bedrooms and Bathrooms are very clean. HVAC works great. Kitchen is large and has everything. Highly recommend it.

Excellent place. Plenty of folks happy to give tips on tackling the local high peaks. Great beds... very clean... great kitchen.... Proprietor David very happy to discuss local hikes and gauge your ability to handle hikes you are considering. I have stayed at 100's of hostels over the years around the world. This one is my favourite... plus David is...

David the owner is friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms are spotless, we were in a room with 8 bunkbeds, comfortable and clean. Only two others shared the room and no problems with lights or noise, etc.The common room is great, with tons of books to read, games, guitars, tv....and beautiful to sit in. It overlooks a lovely deck and has...

The rooms and all the facilities are clean. It's a good place to sleep before or after to go some hiking. We really feel like home here and it accepts pets (so becareful if you have allergies). I would definitely come back here.

Arrived at 4pm and unable to find anyone to check us in. After waiting quite a while we crossed paths with another guest who knew where the keys were and showed us where the rooms are. Place was totally dark and noone around could even find a light switch. The place overall felt dingy. Not sure if there is a...

David and Terri are helpful, knowledgeable and generally fantastic people. Their hostel has a great vibe and all the amenities recreational travelers want. Clean, simple bunks, fairly priced. Big, well-equipped kitchen, inexpensive snacks and a common room with games, books, tv, etc. They can also do prearranged shuttles and are happy to answer questions about hikes, eateries, and other local...

The rooms are well-priced for what you get. The hostel was clean and homey. There was a nice big common area with games, books, etc, and we loved having access to the kitchen. I wish I could have stayed longer, and will definitely consider coming back especially as a place to unwind after a few days of hiking.

Nothing negative to say! The caretakers (Dawn and Ray) were terrific and eager to help with their expansive knowledge of the area and the best hiking. Clean, good wifi and great to have a kitchen after a long day on the trails. Would definitely stay again!

I love this hostel. This place is a terrific place to stay while you’re doing all your outdoor activities in the high peaks. We stayed in the hostel for one night after a long day of hiking. We stayed in one of the bunk rooms in the lower level. It had 4 bunk beds and a single. Our bunk room...
