Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
High Peaks Resort garners praise for its immaculate rooms and facilities, with guests often appreciating the pristine bathrooms and pet-friendly vibe. Nestled close to the lake and Main Street, its location is lauded, although some guests suggest better signage. The rooms boast cleanliness and comfort, offering scenic views, but certain visitors mention they could benefit from modernization. While the staff's friendliness and helpfulness receive acclaim, opinions on value tilt towards the negative due to perceived overpricing and unexpected fees. The resort's amenities and rustic ambiance generally meet guest expectations, despite occasional noise and cleanliness issues.

I've stayed in the Lake Placid area many times over the years and had a wonderful week at the High Peaks Resort last week. Check in was simple and easy. The room was very comfortable as was the room and bathroom.

The maid service was a bit erratic in terms of cleaning or replacing towels but requests were promptly attended to. There was no coffee for the keurig machine and the pillows weren't very good quality. The restaurants were all closed except the bar but that was fine. The AC was very erratic and difficult to use.

We could never expect towels to be at the pools and there were quite a few broken chairs and chaises at the lake. Agree that there were long waits for boats.

The location is so convenient and while we're all doing take-out or the restaurants have long lines, it's such a convenient place to go back and wait on your deck in front of such a lovely view. I swam in the private lake access each and every day. Heaven.

So in spite of a few ripples, we will be back, and we felt very very welcome and comfortable.

Warmly,
Seth Bauer and Elysa Marden

Dear Seth and Elysa, Thank you for taking a moment to share a review of your experience! It is such a pleasure to get such a thorough understanding of the highs and lows of our guests' visit. Our restaurant, Dancing Bears Restaurant, is open seven days a week with seating indoor and outside on The Deck. We are sorry you did not have an opportunity to dine with us! Due to COVID-19, we did remove coffee supplies from the room, however, they are available on request or at any time at the Front Desk. We apologize this was not explained to you when you arrived. We want all of our guests to have an exceptional stay. We are disappointed there were inconsistencies during your visit and will share your review with our team to ensure we are mindful of them for future guests. We hope you'll join us again! Warm Regards, Your Friends at High Peaks Resort

We spent the weekend before Christmas in Lake Placid and stayed at High Peaks Resort. The resort has a very warm, rustic feel. The beautiful fireplace and sitting area in the lobby offers a great place to sit and relax. We stayed in the Lake House Building in a lake view room on the top floor and the view of mirror lake, the mountains and town was so beautiful. The room was cozy and clean with a king size bed and a couch. The location of the resort is fantastic as it is located right in the heart of the town and you can walk to all the shops, bars and restaurants. There was a nice bar area in our building that has an awesome view of Lake Placid also. It has a wonderful, cozy atmosphere with a huge fireplace, pool table, foosball table and lots of games for kids. It was a great place to start our evening. There were never really many people here. I guess because most people don’t really know it is there, even though it is right on the many street with all the other bars. Which is kind of a shame but great at the same time because it was quiet and relaxing. The Lake House Building also had daily campfires outside in front and free kits so you could make your own s’mores. Again, with another spectacular with of the lake and mountains. All the staff we encountered were very friendly. We didn’t get a chance to visit the pool, spa or outdoor bar as it was quite cold in December. So our next visit will be during the warmer months so that we can take in all that this resort has to offer. We thought everything about this resort was very charming and we will absolutely stay here again when visiting Lake Placid.

Loved staying here right before the height of the summer season. Five-story resort building has been recently renovated and everything is coordinated and beautiful. Lobby is very upscale Adirondack style, with sophisticated yet comfortable touches. Lots of different places to sit and enjoy there.

At check - in front desk served us complementary welcome champagne. Morning coffee available in lobby, with afternoon chocolate chip cookies, individually wrapped. We had lake view balcony high floor room . Super comfortable beds. Great air conditioning, large well l
appointed bathroom, with showerhead and hand held shower. Tasteful, quality furniture, with unique lighting fixtures in large room. Full service cleaning available, or contactless if you prefer.
Indoor and outdoor pools, fitness room, restaurant and bar. Small
gift shop in case you forgot something or want to purchase souvenirs, sweatshirts, or Lululemon workout clothes. Aveda salon /spa on street level.Facilities include Lake House additional rooms across the street.,where boat dock is. Complementary kayaks, paddle boats, paddle boards there, with super attentive waterfront staff. Mirror Lake is crystal clear and Lake House has chaises longues on grassy stretch overlooking lake. Another outdoor pool is there, too.
High Peaks has covered and outdoor parking garage and has entrance on Main Strret so you can shop at a variety of stores and eat at some delicious restaurants . A fine jewelry store is on Main Street right next to resort.
One area needing improvement: indoor pool is nice size but needs to be renovated. Beware of super- slippery tiles in bathroom areas there.

As for price:
Lake Placid is a resort town and this is a resort hotel. Not inexpensive, but reasonable for all that you get in a super clean and safe resort hotel close to everything you could want on a vacation.

I can only speak about our room but Housekeeping did a terrible job in cleaning the room. Only changed towels, never vacuumed, nor cleaned any counters. There were articles left under beds from prior guests (socks, toy, empty candy jar). Tons of dust under beds also. This hotel welcomes dogs and should definitely vacuum rooms....some people are allergic. Hotel is very convenient and is probably great if you have a dog and are used to living in filth. Very lumpy bed and uncomfortable lounge old lounge chair.

Stayed at the High Peaks Resort for our family's special event in Lake Placid. This hotel was attractive and the rooms were large and appeared to be clean. Be aware that the walls are very thin and that we could hear every flush of the toilet from the rooms on either side of us.
A young female Asian front desk staff member went above and beyond in her customer service. Other hotel staff members at the front desk and other areas however were rude. This greatly affected our overall feel of our stay, confidence in the cleanliness of this hotel, ability to dine in their Dancing Bears restaurant and apparently the experience of others. Upcharging our bill on departure , treating us with total disrespect and blaming the upcharge on a computer error while being condescending to guests is not acceptable. Our broken refrigerator, missing room items and concerns were not addressed. Apparently we were not the only disappointed guests as during our checkout, we were in line behind a gentleman who was on number 4 of his long list ofcomplaints that he was sharing with the front desk staff. We could not help but to notice their uncaring and rude demeanor to him as well. We left feeling concerned that this hotel is not what it seems; very pretty with no substance. There are many other hotel options in this area that would be a better value and would be appreciative and respectful of their guests.

This was our first stay at a hotel since the pandemic has begun.

We were very impressed by the high cleaning, hygiene and safety measures the hotel took and felt welcome and safe.

The rooms just were renovated and are a kind of "Adirondack chic" with a modern twist to it. Very comfortable, spacious and squeaky clean!
Magazines, brochures etc. are gone from the hotel room, for hygiene reasons and the TV remote was sealed in a see through plastic bag to avoid germs.

We had a room with the view of the lake and had a wonderful time there. Would definitely go back!

We stayed here for 3 nights during Covid. We had a wonderful experience. There was hand sanitizer available by the pool. Staff was constantly cleaning surfaces. The resort includes free kayaks, double kayaks, paddle boards and paddle boats. There are lots of great places to hang out outside. We loved watching all the people walk around with their dogs and even saw one ride a kayak and a paddle board! The resort is right in Lake Placid, close to shopping and food. There is free hand sanitizer around the Main Street in town and signs requiring masks to be worn.

We booked for my little family to getaway for couple days. Great place for the family! I absolutely appreciated how all the staff kept their masks on at all times and never pulled
It down to their chin, even the ones who worked outside at the pool/lake area. I totally recommend for families with little ones to stay here. They have kayaking and paddle boarding available. We had a great time staying there.
The small strip where high peeks was located at The only thing is they don’t have much surrounding restaurants choices. I wish they had more variety. I like it that is was clean and they provided hand sanitizer on the strip.
It’s 95% white folks.

We stayed at the waterfront collection for 4 nights, so I can only speak to those rooms. Overall the rooms were great, and the location is amazing. Any parent with kids knows the amount of work schlep stuff to/from pool, lake, etc...but these rooms basically open right out to the lake and pool so no need to do that. Kids can easily run back to room for bathroom, anything you forgot, something to drink out of the fridge in the room, etc. Everyone was so nice as well. We asked for wine opener and was quickly delivered to our room. Our room and bathroom were very nice and clean. we loved the pool and lake and the included access to the paddle boats and boards was great! (and the hours were great ...we could go out during day and come back for late afternoon of swimming and using paddle boards" Dancing bear cafe was nice too though we were bummed the deck wasn't open either night we tried (I think they were short staffed)

My only two issues/suggestions -
1) because of the location, the rooms have a bit of that damp/humid feel. I think the rooms could use a dehumidifier.
2) Because the rooms have a sliding glass door to the lake/pool, we wish the rooms had a safe to lock up valuables; while it was very safe and we had no issues, it would have been nice to have a little extra piece of mind knowing our valuables were locked in a safe when we left the sliding door unlocked for kids to run in/out of the room, etc. (which is part of the reason we paid $$$ for the location)

All in all, we had a great trip and definitely plan to go back!

I am giving the resort two stars only for the location in reality. We stayed in the Waterfront Collection. The room was alright, but other than the bathroom, was not worthy of being listed as a 4-star hotel in my opinion. The hotel had good reviews for cleanliness, but unfortunately our room was not cleaned to basic standards. The rooms were also carpeted and our carpet had a lingering foot odor. My wife and I brought up the issue upon checking out, and we followed that up with an email to the manager, Melissa Snow, with some photos of the uncleanliness and an explanation of our issue with the carpet odor. We were never even replied to still over a week later. We will be back to Lake Placid, but we will not be returning to the High Peaks Resort. Check out their summer weekend rates - when you pay a certain amount of money for a room, you expect at least the basics. Very disappointed.
