I love Brackenhurst and have been coming for 6 years now for vacation. About 4 years ago they switched to “eco friendly” which is great but their solar water heaters DO NOT WORK. My shower runs out of hot water in one minute!! This NEEDS to change. Love the cafe and staff.
The rooms are very run down and old feeling. They need a good remodel. VERY cold in winter! I got very sick from something there. The outside is beautiful. Food was good. Staff very friendly. MOLD in the rooms. They need to invest in dehumidifiers for every room. Probably contributed to illnesses within our group. Also they need some way to heat the rooms in winter. It’s miserable. Laundry is cheap and finished same day if you take it in early. That was probably the best part of the hotel. Just needs some major renovations and upgrades to the buildings and it will be nice again.
First off - try their brownies! Best ever! I wish they didn't use the cheap Chinese-imported tilapia fish and their pizzas can sometimes be quite bland. Staff is well trained and maintain a decent level of service. This is an excellent place to visit if you're in the Limuru area. It's fresh and green. The coffee and desserts are spot on. In general, Brackenhurst is a great service to the local community and is a great day trip for anyone that wants to leave the bustle of Nairobi for a few hours. Note to management: your surcharges for take away containers are very high.
Enjoying the Moment at the Hotel. Place of comfort. Very Humble place in the middle of the Forest. Spacious rooms with enough beds and beddings. Am challenged by the water made and purified from the premises. No plastic here. I would definitely be back
We visited Brackenhurst on a Saturday morning around 10.30 and had the place to ourselves. We were warmly welcomed at Reception and enjoyed the Lower Forest walk which cost 200ksh each. It’s a nice amble for most ages and abilities, with indigenous trees and flowers, spotting Sykes Monkeys, birds and a pretty little waterfall! Lunch at the Muna Tree Cafe, the pizza was really good with lots of variety on the menu. Beautiful setting in lovely gardens and well worth a visit!
I really liked the bird watching session and learning about how the reclaimed forest came to be. It was so awesome and the guide (Maina) was super knowledgeable about the flora and fauna there. I got tips about planting which I really appreciated. The hotel was generally quite a serene area and again the diversity was caught me since I am an ecologist. The fullboard meals were well thought out and being a lactovegetarian they chefs didn't bore my taste buds. I particularly liked the chickpea pizza and another meal that had some green chapati was so tasty. I really enjoyed my stay there and I'd like to commend the team for there great hospitality, professionalism and patience with me. The rooms were also really clean and everything was arranged well since I could find what I wanted easily. As for the cons. I really can't think about any you guys made my stay unforgettable.…
We were here for a night to stay before we went into the wild and it was really good. The buffet was very nice with a lot of different food, which was delicious. The rooms were basic but very spacious with a nice shower and bed. In the area there is a really nice hike for 45 minutes where you can find Sykes monkeys and colobus monkeys. there also is a nice waterfall. The people are very nice there as well. It is religious over there because it Is a baptist center. It is pretty cold in the night but they bring you a warm heating pad. I recommend this for a night stay.
Pros: Beautiful grounds, quiet location, saw Sykes and Colobus monkeys which were amazing, and an outstanding gift shop. Cons: Rooms were tired and dated, food was ok and you couldn't order a wine or beer with your meal - although not the end of the world.
We were here for the day. The place is beautiful. The food was excellent. We had chips and fish and the children had chips and sausage. Very good tea and hot chocolate. We received good and prompt service from Ms. Naomi. We had carrot muffins and moca cakes. The cakes are to die for! Definitely coming back
My group stayed in Brakenhurst because our flights got changed and we arrived in Nairobi a day early. Brakenhurst is a nice quiet place to spend a day. We saw sykes and colobus monkeys so as photographers starting our safari adventure, we were happy. The staff were pleasant and it was a nice stay. The food was okay and the accommodations were okay, but the price well reflected the product. The grounds are really nice and it is certainly a great value. I'm not sure I would drive 75 minutes north of Nairobi to stay there again, but I didn't have any complaints either It was a nice way of spending our first day in Kenya.
