A feat of local engineering - it took 7 years to build the road up to this lodge and it is one steep and bumpy trip! Spectacular views in a wonderfully remote part of Kenya. However, I was disappointed by the rooms - completely open to the elements and it is clearly a battle to keep them clean. Make sure...

Why such a lodge here? That was the first question popping up after climbing what probably is the steepest road I have seen. Fantastic accomodation, great staff, unique surroundings should position this eco lodge on every discerning traveller's bucket list.

Astonishing place and deco. Beautifully located in the forest. We climbed Mount Nyiru for a breakfast at the top, an absolute must. What a view. Kind Joseph Chege, the manager was always available for us to make sure all was OK. Lunch at the waterfalls just next to the lodge is magic. A great romantic stop for a couple of...

we felt quite welcome by the owner of this lodge. The place is quite isolated, and we reached it by landing our 9-seater airplane on a small landstrip, half-an-hour away. The site is quite enchanting, nested on high hills, with great views over the a large panorama. Dinner was good, wine flowed freely, a nice cricket game on the front...

Dear Blirola, Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Desert Rose. We are so delighted you had such a great stay with Emma, and had the opportunity to go for a walk into the amazing forest that covers Mount Nyiro too - this is indeed a very special place! This review is long overdue as visited way back in 2010. It was a familiarization tour for me being the reservationist for Desert Rose Lodge. Departed Wilson Airport ex Alexis Peltier charter. The general experience was far beyond my expectation. Indeed one gets to see wonders of creation. It was a 3 days trip and got to fly over Lake...

A beautifully hand crafted lodge in an amazing location. Chef Maina is a creative genuis, food was delicious. The rooms have magnificent views, with hand made authentic furniture. The hikes in the surrounding hills have stunning scenery. Just needs a few tweaks in housekeeping, lighting in some rooms, better communication with the outside world to make this the "NIRVANA" of...

Not easy to get in (unless helicopter or a private plane) but worth every effort, especially thet the road from maralat is great...

I would definitely recommend anyone who loves a beautiful enviroment to go to this lovingly built lodge, the photos that are posted on the website do not do justice to the strikingly porpotioned buildings. There is nothing to compare to sitting up in bed and looking out at the clouds sitting on the mountains out of the paneless window-except perhaps...
