We stayed 2 nights at Panoramic view hotel leading up to the busiest season to be in Lalibela - the Ethiopian new year on 7th January where 300,000 pilgrims made their way in to Lalibela town, home to only 40,000. Panoramic view Hotel is very scenic: the beautiful landscape can be seen from almost anywhere in this hotel notwithstanding from the restaurants and room view. Hospitable and superb owner Amde, friendly staff. Great food; both continental and Ethiopian. They organised our tour to visit the churches which can all be reached on foot from the hotel - We were 2 people and our guide fee was 30 dollars for the day with Mekuanint +251963575717, they also organised our hike to Asheton church and hike to Hudad lodge thereafter for 50 dollars guide fee; we had 2 great guides and we ended up tipping them: Leul +251935438348 and Habtework +251935232339 - this is a much tougher hike. The guides stayed the night as well and went back down with us the following day (Sidenote: Hudad may tend to overprice so have a chat with them beforehand).

I stayed at the Panoramic View Hotel over the Timkat holiday, which is quite a busy time of year in Lalibela (second to Ethiopian Christmas). Despite a very last minute booking, everyone at the hotel was incredibly helpful in ensuring I had a wonderful weekend. They helped me with everything from arranging transportation around Lalibela, to getting a guide to see the famous rock hewn churches, to deciding which other sites I should see while visiting Lalibela. A few members of the staff even took me with them to the Timkat celebrations as I was traveling alone. It was so lovely to feel so welcome throughout my visit. The room was clean and had a comfortable bed as well as a fan (very important for me as I am a very hot sleeper). The bathrooms had excellent . water pressure and I never ran out of hot water. The views were absolutely stunning as well and the majority of the balconies faced out towards the sunset in the evening. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Panoramic hotel when we visited Lalibela for 2022 Gena ( Christmas) and had a five star treatment
After months of closure for all hotels in Lalibela we found a perfectly functioning hotel (including delighting hot shower) and extremely welcoming and helpful staff.
Food was great and taken on the roof top, the view was just mind blowing there. I have been to a couple of hotels in Lalibela with a view, this one is worth the detour (unique seat design based on horse saddles!).
The whole team was adorable to us, including the owner overseeing how well we are treated.
If you visit Lalibela I wholeheartedly recommend that you stay at Panoramic hotel.
Concerning the rooms, the higher the floor the greater the view :)
Simple rooms, neat and clean, great value for money.

I don’t understand the high ratings for this hotel. Sure, the view is nice, but no one mentions the downside. The side of the hotel with the view is exposed to very strong afternoon sun. Even with the curtains drawn during the day, the rooms with the view are sweltering. There’s no air conditioning — only a fan that just moves the hot air around. Even if you open the door to the balcony to let in some cool evening air, the building has absorbed so much heat that it just re-radiates back into your room. There’s no way to cool it down. The air might be pleasant out on the balcony, but you’re not going to sleep out there. You’re going to sleep in a very hot room that doesn’t cool down until almost dawn.

Add to this the staff’s inattention and nonresponsiveness to the needs of their guests, why would anyone stay here?

Some people say the dining room is good. But the only thing available for breakfast is eggs. The only thing available for dinner is spaghetti or the local shiro. The hotel blames all this on the recent troubles in the area. Fair enough. But that doesn’t stop plenty of other restaurants in Lalibela from offering full menus.

Last is the electricity. Lalibela at the moment has no electricity, which is caused by the problems in Tigray. But the hotel promises 3 hours of electricity in the evening (6pm to 9pm) from their generator so that guests can recharge their essential electronic devices. With the combination of poor maintenance of the generator (failure to top up the cooling fluid for the water-cooled engine) or just unwillingness to run the generator, you’re unlikely to be able to recharge in the evening. If you make a big fuss about it, they’ll start up the generator, but you have to hunt up someone on the staff, which itself is a challenge. And, of course, you can’t call the front desk as there are no phones in the rooms and the number they list for the hotel doesn’t work. Naturally, they don’t bother providing guests with the correct number.

I give the place 2 stars solely based on the pleasant view, but I would recommend you stay elsewhere. The view just doesn’t make up for all the other problems and the general lack of effort by the staff.

The positive things first, the food was good here, we ate here most days that we were in Lalibela. The internet was very good and we could get done what we needed to. Finally the views are stunning and that’s why we booked it. On the whole, the staff were helpful, friendly and pleasant.

Now the bad, as soon as we arrived we were given the hard sell on a tour. This tour was going to be around 8000 birr (£200) after the first morning of the tour we looked online at the places we were supposed to be going and the reviews were not too positive for the price, so I cancelled at least one day, this reduced the price to just under 4000 birr. We had a guide for the churches and a look around the market, not really good value for £100. You don’t need a guide to do those things.

They say they have a 24 hour lobby bar, they don’t. If you want a drink after 10pm you have to buy them all at 9:50pm. One time when we seemed to be the only people in the hotel, I went to get a drink and all the staff were behind the bar, but looked at me like I was a nuisance.

To some it up, on the whole it was a good place to stay, but we felt slightly conned by the guide (who worked for the hotel).

Thank you again for positive review and recommending panoramic view hotel to Other travelers. I have seen your review seriously and i read that you were disappointed by the guide fee. After we have received your genuine review we took an action that such an act of fraudulently should not happen again in my hotel. And we have announced in my hotel reception desk the guide fee for less than 3 people should not exceed from 35 USD for pick tourist season. The second point you have reviewed was about the 24 hour service of the hotel. At this point also we want to assure again my hotel bar and lobby service is open for 24 hours. The moment you have not got the service is what i want to apologize you. Having all this in mind i appreciate your genuine review which can help to improve our service quality control. Thank you for this. We appreciate your sincere review and of course this will help us to becoming a very preference in all our services. Easily the best hotel we stayed in North Ethiopia! This is the best and of course 100% recommended hotel in LALIBELA.
Everything is perfect here. Amazing view of the region! Rooms are very clean and well kept. Our room have a private balcony over the beautiful view of Lalibela. Easy 10 minutes walk to the 3 groups of Lalibela churches.
I really loved the food in the hotel and the view from the resturant.
a charming owner that will come every corners and talk to you what's needed. There is a wide screen to enjoy sports and games as there is a private power generator when the power off. It was unforgettable experience
The name tells everything and absolutely you love the location and the service. I strongly recommend Panoramic view hotel Lalibela.

This is my second visit to The Panoramic Hotel in Lalibella. The area was damaged during the recent troubles and damage can be seen in a few rooms in the hotel. The staff we very happy to fulfil any requests that we made including preparing food that was not oon the menu. During our stay we saw various unidentified flying objects in the night sky. They entertained us during our stay there and even the hotel staff admitted they have never seen these fast moving shape and colour changing lights before.
So if you are looking for a safe holiday with lots of historic amenities near the hotel then please contact Adamu on +251 91 178 4004. He was a fantastic guide. My friend thoroughly enjoyed his experience in Lalibella and has not stopped telling everyone about his experience.

This is a wonderful hotel. The view is just great! The staff was friendly and welcoming. Abel went out of his way to make sure we had our welcome drinks. Abel speaks English well and takes his hospitality job responsibly while being both cheerful and attentive. What a beautiful stay of two nights we had there in February 2020.

Good breakfast, free shuttle to the airport

Our guide Mekuanint Asnake was great, very professional and knowledgeable and very kind.
We spent three days with him, visiting churches of course but he also organized a cooking class with Sisko at unique restaurant and took us for a glass of tej at torpedo tej house.
We warmly recommend him.

The panoramic hotel has a view like no other! Absolutely stunning. The staff was very friendly and showed us the excellent view from the top balcony. No complaints about dinner or breakfast. Served restaurant style not buffet style. Beds were comfortable, water was warm, and the hotel is situated within walking distance to the Lalibela Chuches. Approximately a 20 minute walk. An experience I will never forget!
