We stayed at Abay Minch Lodge for two nights recently, and it was by far the most quaint and charming place we stayed in during our entire trip in Ethiopia. The rooms are comfortable, and there is hot water, which is always a good thing. The shower space has no curtains, which we found in most places we visited, and... More

Spectacular accommodations in a remote area just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Bahir Dar. I normally travel with my family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) and these cottages would have been great if they had been with me. They're spacious and clean and you get the wonderful sound effects of the wildlife living in the canopy... More

Very pleasant place to stay. Good room, lovely big garden with lots of nooks in which to sit and enjoy a drink before supper. Well situated just off the edge of town. Bulk standard buffet breakfast but good dinner

The good aspects 1st: set on nice garden grounds with nice individual cabana's in quiet area of Bahir Dar..family of monkey's inhabit garden Now the problems....1) staff dismissive until we complained to tour guide and spoke with manager, 2) food in restaurant is terrible!!, since you are away from city center, no other reasonable options, 3) cabanas have poor ventilation... Accommodation is in small “bungalows” set amid good gardens – a sort of house in the jungle effect, and this does encourage some interesting bird life. There is a security guard at the gate However, we thought the place had significant drawbacks – the rooms were dark (although mainly clean), we had to ask for towels, there was no plug,... More

This SHOULD NOT be listed as the #1 speciality lodging in Bahar Dar! I am comfortable with modest African hotel accommodations, but coming off a 4 day Simien Mountain trek I wanted to treat myself to one night with a long hot shower and comfortable bed - thus I 'splurged' at the western price for what I thought would be... Abbey Minch is situated in lush grounds on the outskirts of Bahir Dar. The hotel consists of spacious semi-detached rondavels dotted about the grounds and connected by stones paths. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms were reasonable but had definitely seen better days (we had to have ours cleaned because the washbasin was covered with monkey... More

We're used to African hotels, and all that is good and bad. Firstly, this hotel would be okay if they were charging $60/night - but they are charging much more and it is a disgrace. Rooms are dirty and poorly equipped, staff are inefficient (pizzas took over an hour to arrive every time) and rude. The owner, in Addis apparently,... More

Price of the rooms is far too high for the quality of the property. The price is level to the top-end places in Lalibela and Gondar, with poor maintenance, poor cleanliness, badly trained staff, and poor food taking hours to arrive if at all,... More specifically: electric wires hanging down showers, bugs in lights fixtures, no record of our reservations,... More

All my reviews of hotels in Ethiopia are ranked against each other after a month's travelling and not ranked against western hotels. Rooms are set in thatched bungalows in nicely set out grounds. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. As with most Ethiopian hotels there is no double glazing so the church prayers are audible, long and loud. Shower was... More
