In the North-Western corner of Botswana, situated on the banks of the Okavango River and in the panhandle of the Okavango Delta, you will find the lush green lawns and tall, shady indigenous trees, of a paradise called Drotsky's Cabins. The area is a birding and fishing paradise, and Drotsky's is the ideal stop over for tourists en route from or to Namibia and a wonderful place to relax for a few days while enjoying a boat cruise on the Okavango River, or visit the nearby World Heritage Site of Tsodilo Hills and Mahangu National Park.

We camped here for 4 nights and had a really wonderful time. Campsite No. 4 was exquisite below the most beautiful big trees right on the water.
The campsite was always kept clean and neat, early in the morning, the ashes were taken away and the dustbins emptied.
The ablutions were clean and well maintained.
Piet, the Manager was so friendly and helpful and allowed us to sit at the Lodge and use the WiFi. On the morning we left, we were even given a cup of coffee for free. The rest of the staff were also always helpful and friendly.
The gardens are absolutely beautiful

This lunch stop was arranged by our guides, we had come to see Pels Fish Owl which roosts nearby.
Our lunch was Fish & Beef, salads and veggies and a delicious cheesecake. The lady that owns this property was very attentive and made us very welcome.
The grounds are beautiful and we wandered around birding before our trip on the river. Lots of butterflies in the garden and the pool looked very inviting on a hot day.
Free WiFi. Recommended.

Wonderful reception by the owner Eileen. She was always present to ensure everything was meeting our needs. The lodges are well appointed and very comfortable & quiet. The location is stunning with only a 100m walk to the waters edge. The food was homely and plenty of it.
We took a morning & afternoon boat trip to go birding. Our guide Otto was first class with a superb knowledge of the local birds. His main trick was to tempt the fish eagles out of their trees to swop and catch some fish.
The gardens are extensive and very well kept. There is a pleasant pool to relax by. In addition the bird life in the garden is abundant. There is also the added attraction of the reedbuck that roam the gardens.
Cannot recommend this property highly enough.

There is something else other than fishing and birding going on here. Very spread out, easy to access with 2wd sedan. There seems to be an eye for detail on how the camp has been laid out. Camping is with huge stands under shaded trees. Staff very friendly and knowledgable. Night guard, but not sure why it’s needed - but nice. He (Peter) stopped by the fireside occasionally before continuing his nightly activities. Had a great boat ride with Motura, and saw en enormous croc with its mouth wide open on the river bank. Great pics. Also Otto was super helpful as was the rest of the staff. Can highly recommend staying here.

We had an amazing 7day tiger fishing trip. Eileen and Jan Drotsky are the perfect hosts. Eileen made sure we were always comfortable, we felt we got extra special treatment. The cabins are very comfortable, the gardens and surrounds are like a green jewel in the dry landscape. Delicious meals with plenty of choice for everyone.

Drotsky’s is an absolute delight to stay at. Piet, Jan and Eileen run an excellent establishment. Otto was an excellent guide on our wildlife/ bird boat trip and walk. It is extremely homely and also very reasonably priced. We stayed two nights on our way from Namibia to Maun and would have been happy spending a few more nights. The gardens are very well maintained, the birding excellent and the boat trip not to be missed. Look out for the Bushbabies!

We stayed two nights at the campsite. This place is really amazing. Nicely situated at the river, spacious campsites with great sanitary facilities, a beautyful garden with a swimmingpool to relax in, very friendly staff and good service. Our favourite place to stay over during our roundtrip through Namibie and Botswana!

We were very disappointed about our stay in Drotsky's cabins. It was the most expensive accommodation on our whole 3-weeks trip and we did not get the value for money which we expected. First of all, the only view out of the cabins is a huge lawn. The view to the river became overgrown. Secondly, the wooden roof of the cabin is very high and therefore offers a lot of space for different kinds of animals. We are very sure that either a squirrel or a mouse lived in the cabin with us. We found clear signs for that circumstance, also on our bed!
When we complained about that problem the owner somehow took it personally and appeared to be huffy.
All in all, way too much paid for what we got!

Our group of 10 spent 2 nights at the campsite at Drotsky's. We were allocated a large campsite with plenty of space for our 5 tents and 4 vehicles, within a short distance of the ablutions. The site was well shaded with tall trees. The ablutions were spotless and offered two bathrooms with toilets as well as two extra toilets. There was plenty of hot water and the site had a power point. Monkeys are a problem so you need to make sure all food is put away securely and close tents well.
The bar serving the campsite was a boon, providing a wonderful space to sit and enjoy the river. The staff were incredibly attentive and went out of their way to provide guests with an enjoyable experience - even the campers! Campers can also use the swimming pool at the main hotel. This was truly a great spot to stop. I'd recommend it to anyone.

We recently stayed at the campsites at Drotskys. The facilities are excellent. Flush loos, hot showers, space to wash up, large camp sites, well spaced part. However our stay was ruined by hundreds (literally) of out of control, aggressive vervet monkeys . We were told there were monkeys around on arrival and warned not to leave food out /not to feed the monkeys. In reality this meant not leaving any thing of any kind out at all , having to have one person stand guard whilst another prepared food (they snatched food from under your eyes literally) and generally not being able to relax until after dark when they had settled in the trees for the night. Because there are so many monkeys, they defecated over us/our tents constantly, up end the rubbish bins and just are a huge pest! The staff do their best to help but unless something is done about the ringleaders of these monkeys, the situation will merely worsen. What a pity to allow them to ruin an otherwise lovely camp.

Washington G asked a question Sep 2021
Is it tarred
Answer from Drotsky_Cabins
Shakawe, Botswana
Hi Yvonne, The Mohembo border crossing is a small, quiet border post. On the Namibian side you will have to register at the entry gate for Mahangu Game Reserve, then drive approximately 15km through the reserve to the border post. (The ferry runs from the town of Shakawe across the Okavango river, to reach the town of Seronga. so if you are coming to Drotsky's, you do not use the ferry at all. Regards, Drotsky's Cabins

No problem reaching Drotsky's in a 2WD. The road is tarred right to the turn-off and then a few 100m's of gravel road to reception. The area is very sandy in general but if you stick to the main roads you will not have a problem.
