OHEKA CASTLE is a majestic historic mansion located on Long Island's Gold Coast between New York City and the Hamptons. This 1920s French-style chateau is listed on the National Register for Historic Places and boasts 32 luxuriously appointed guestrooms and suites on the upper floors where guests can sleep like royalty. Guests can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the beautiful formal gardens, take a mansion tour and learn about the Castle's rich history, wine and dine in European ambience in the OHK Bar & Restaurant before retiring to their guestroom for an in-room massage. Breathtakingly beautiful, OHEKA CASTLE is admired around the world as a premier venue for exquisite weddings and gala celebrations and has been the backdrop to many prominent film and photo productions. The refined European atmosphere and the feeling of being transported back in time to the decadence of the Roaring Twenties consistently gives OHEKA the recognition as America's Grandest Castle.

My family was staying at the Melville Marriott and we were looking for something interesting to do and a great place to have lunch. Well, we certainly found what we were looking for at the Oheka Castle. Our tour guide, Beth, was fabulous, and our lunch at OHK Bar & Restaurant was top notch. Delicious food and great service.

We had lunch with a few friends. The castle is beautiful and so are the grounds. The food was great. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was a pricy lunch but we had fun. We walked around a little and looked at the different rooms. Staff was friendly.

After viewing the hotel's website, we did not expect the many shabby and poorly decorated spaces that are carefully edited or left out of photos. The sofa in our room had a large rip in the upholstery and the tables looked like they belonged in a thrift store. Front desk and valet staff are service oriented, but the morning wait staff are not. One person continually slammed plates down an hour into the breakfast event, and requests by multiple guests for salt and pepper were not fulfilled until the food was cold. During the wedding events, many guests mentioned how hot the public rooms are. Another surprise: there is only one elevator that is used mostly by staff with large carts even during the wedding events, so expect to climb stairs. Biggest pet peeve: why does the hotel bother with plush robes when they provide one-ply toilet paper?

The castle itself is a beautiful building with an interesting history. “Tour” was terrible. Tour guide was non informative and showed a few poster board photos for reference. She even made disparaging comments about the Kardashians and was very repetitive in her thoughts. Took us through a suite that was being cleaned by housekeeping! A dirty room! Overall drab and run down with overall decor not relative to the time period. Sad that so much was lost through the years to vandals and fire. Stayed for lunch, that was good. Owner went around to each table and made pleasant conversation, he was very personable. It was on our list of castles/mansions to tour so we can check that off. I felt bad for people that traveled from the west coast for a visit. I suggested some other local Gold Coast mansions that offer a better, more informative, appropriate tour. Also, no gift shop. We collect Christmas ornaments. “Check in” desk and gift shop is a side room closet size area, not very welcoming.

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this past week at Oheka Castle and had an amazing time. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and made our week so much fun. Gary, the owner, is a true delight. He made our time "in his home" very special. The grounds are stunning, our room was lovely, our anniversary dinner at OHK was delicious, and our nightly drinks at the bar were so fun. Thank you to the bar staff, dining staff, house keepers, and valet attendants. All were terrific! We highly recommend Oheka Castle for a special occasion or simply for a delightful get-away! Thank you!!! :)

My daughter booked the hotel for 2 nights for my 65th birthday. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, we had a two room suite, the bar and restaurant were excellent and the staff was without peer! We even met Gary, the owner who also bought us a round of drinks after dinner in the bar! Thank you Gary and staff for a memorable birthday weekend!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend, hoping for an elegant and romantic getaway to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The grounds and building are beautiful, if a bit worn, but we otherwise had a very negative experience at this hotel. It came down to two hostile encounters we had with staff. On Saturday evening, a wedding was being hosted at the hotel. We were leaving to head to our anniversary dinner, walking from the elevators to the exit door—when a man accosted us and told us we were not allowed to be there. Not allowed to leave from the elevator to the exit? Apparently our mere presence at the same time as a wedding was an offense. Even if you accept that the lobby and exit path was a forbidden place to be (which we don’t—how else do you leave??) then there was a more polite way to explain this. The next morning we were trying to take some photos, just the two of us, outside on the grounds. Another, different man, shouted at us that picture taking was not allowed. (There are posted signs saying that as hotel guests, photos are allowed as long as you’re not using a professional photographer, which we were not.) Jeez—yelled at again? And why else stay at a picturesque mansion if not to take some selfies? We were not trying to break any rules, and we’re not troublemakers, but we somehow still got in the crosshairs of these staff members. Pretty disappointing considering we paid $500/night for the privilege of being treated like trespassers. (Just want to add that the bellhops and housekeepers were very friendly—it was staff who seemed to enjoy wielding power that treated us poorly.)

This was a nice beautiful place. Got a groupon for a specific room. Once we arrived we were given some kind of maiden quarters (small window in a hidden nook thats not even visible from the bed), which left the room dark. Once you look out the small window you see garbage dumpsters. Although I got a discounted price (groupon) it was for a specific type of room which was not it. This was suppose to be a special one of a kind experience for my travel buddy. Right away we called to front desk and explained and it was fixed right away. We were moved to a different beautiful room with nice french doors (did not open, either because of security or weather). It had a small entry way with a couch then opening into a beautiful bedroom. We went there during winter time so it wasnt as nice as summer months im sure. The estate itself has a rich amd sad history. You could feel it in its walls, lots of sadness. I would not do yoga here (some packages offer that ) i would not call it romantic or peaceful. Just saddness. We did the free tour but inside (because of the weather) we had breakfast in a main room as well as visited their restaurant for some munchies just to get a feel. Both were nice. It is a very unique experience and I would definitely recommend it. If you are sensitive prepare yourself. Saddness and coldness through its walls. That doesnt matter though, it is history so im sure it is haunted as well (if you take the tour or read up online you'll get why). I would not mind visiting it again but in a summer to see the gardens and greenery hopefully it will give it a more cheery vibe. A significant piece for NYS

My husband and I booked a mid-week yoga package at Oheka, which included a stay in a Gatsby suite, champagne in our room, dinner and breakfast, as well as a yoga session at the hotel. What a place! Our room was stunning - the size, furnishings and gorgeous sunken bath took our breath away. Our morning yoga session was with the lovely Elena who was excellent and took place in the huge terrace room which has near 360° views of the grounds. It was epic! We had dinner in the restaurant which was lovely. I enjoyed the crab cake in particular. Gary the owner popped over to say hi and welcome us which was a lovely touch since we had been reading about him and the history of the mansion in our room just before. We also booked a mansion tour during our stay which I think is a must for any guest to understand the history of the place!

It was a beautiful day and we were fortunately to walk around the grounds and view the lovely formal gardens. The hotel is INCREDIBLE. We viewed 3 rooms...the "bridal suite" , a 2 bedroom suite and an "apartment". OHEKA definitely reminds one of a European Chateau by virtue of it's incredible architecture and furnishings. Many of the furniture is antique...the wallpapers are gorgeous...and the public rooms are very impressive. There are several inviting rooms for private parties and very large events. The Charlie Chaplin Room is very warm and cozy and could a nice dinner/cocktail party for 20. The grand ballroom can host an event of 300+ guests. That was a truly gorgeous room. There is a lovely restaurant that can also serve outdoor patrons, as well as a well equipped bar.
