The Fairlawn Inn is an absolute must visit for anyone looking for a short (or long) retreat in Upstate New York. It is hard to imagine that there is a more beautiful home or more wonderful hostess to be found in the surrounding region or beyond. The house, which was restored at some point in the early 2000s, is decorated in a Victorian style and is very comfortable. The common areas have plenty to keep one entertained, including a record player, TVs, pool table, and books, while the dining area has a Keurig, hot water dispenser, and ice machine. We stayed in the Willow room and loved it. Very beautiful and comfortable, appointed with a TV, fireplace and clawfoot tub. The surrounding area is also lovely, even during the off season. I love an old Victorian, especially one with an interesting history like the Fairlawn, but the real draw of the place is Sandy. To say that we felt truly cared for and valued as guests is almost an understatement! We were the only guests that weekend but Sandy refused to cut any corners. Both mornings we were treated to delicious breakfasts (with some off-menu tofu that was to die for) and sent off for the day with plenty of snacks. Sandy treated us to a tour of the house (along with an offer to upgrade our room, which we declined) and took our picture in the common areas. She also gave us plenty of recommendations for food and activities in Hunter and the surrounding towns. The antiques mall and Piano Performance Museum (both within walking distance) are great fun and not to be missed. On our first morning, my partner revealed that it was my birthday that day and, when we returned to the Inn later that afternoon, I was met with a lovely card and box of chocolates, both of which made the day all the more special. We have a great time just chatting with Sandy as well who is funny, interesting, and clearly sharp as a whip. I cannot recommend the Fairlawn Inn highly enough! I'm already looking forward to my next visit and hope to patronize the Inn for years to come.

Our stay at Fairlawn Inn was fantastic! The rooms were clean and cozy; centrally located to Hunter Mountain and restaurants/bars; delicious breakfast in the morning. The best part of our stay was easily Sandy and her hospitality. She really cares about the guest‘s experience at her bed and breakfast and in Hunter in general. She was so friendly and incredibly accommodating, with great recommendations for activities in the surrounding area. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

My daughter and I went to hunter mountain for a snowboarding trip which was also my daughters birthday. Sandy went the extra mile in making this a special weekend for my daughter by putting up decorations, giving her flowers, a gift, and making her a stack of pancakes for breakfast with a candle in it! She played birthday music and helped us location a nail salon so she could go get her nails done. The rooms were very clean and the house is very welcoming and cozy.. you will feel right at home with this stay!! We will be back for sure. You also get a great view of the mountain!!

I just had such a fantastic stay. I've always admired the property driving through town and finally had the chance to stay here. The location is perfect. The rooms were clean, spacious, and have so many historic accents. The best part is the caring, kind, and very generous inn keeper. I will return for future trips!

My wife and I just returned from a 4 day/3-night getaway in the Catskill region of New York. We chose the Fairlawn Inn based on the reviews, the location and the appealing photo’s we saw online. I can say, unreservedly, that it was the best decision we could have made. It was easy to find and centrally located to many of the sites and attractions we visited. The inn itself is beautiful. It has all the amenities that one could ask for. A gorgeous wrap-around porch with plenty of tables and chair – with a great view of Hunter Mountain across the street. At least three cozy parlors and sitting rooms perfect for lounging with a book or magazine. A backyard patio with fire pit for cool evenings. We took advantage of it all. Perhaps the best feature of the inn was the inn keeper – Sandy. She could not have been more accommodating and helpful. She was very generous with her time and provided with us advice and recommendations on directions, restaurants, and some of the top attractions in the area. By the time we left, it felt like we had known her for years. I cannot recommend this inn strongly enough.

My husband and I just returned from the Fairlawn Inn. This bed and breakfast was a delight from the moment we got there. We were greeted by the owner and gracious host Sandy. The home was beautiful. Every detail of the home was meticulous. The architecture of the home was stunning. Our room was immaculate, beautiful and inviting. The grounds were well manicured and there was plenty of places to sit and enjoy the beautiful mountains. If you ever want to stay anywhere in Hunter this should be your No. 1 place. Sandy would welcome you and make your stay memorable like she did for us.

Cindy is an excellent host who came through for us at the last minute when it turned out the hotel we’d reserved nearby had overbooked. Our room was huge, spacious and most importantly…clean! The location is incredibly convenient for activities at Hunter. Breakfast was good—not exceptional, but very respectable nonetheless—and other staff we interacted with were really pleasant.
