We stayed in the Safari Suite which is at the end of the row of tented lodges. It was huge, luxurious and if you can afford the additional cost, we would highly recommend it. But everything about Chiawa was so good that we would happily stay in any of their lodges. Firstly, it is situated right on the Zambezi river, so every meal was taken with amazing views. Secondly, the food was outstanding, with variety enabling everyone to be satisfied. So many dining highlights - a wonderful dinner in the bush, lunch on the river, and the breakfast porridge before we set off on our morning drive was outstandingly good. Thirdly, the staff were truly nice and the whole camp seemed happy. Tips are shared between all staff - the first camp we have ever been to where we didn't have a dedicated guide for the whole time of our stay (who usually gets all the tip). We thought this encouraged a great attitude of teamwork, rather than individual (sometimes competitive) efforts. Fourthly, our game drives were excellent. But the one thing that truly distinguished Chiawa from every other camp we have been to was the night drives. Chiawa use only red lights (jeep headlights and spotlights) and we saw more and better nocturnal animals in our three nights there than we have seen in 12 years of safaris in other camps that use white lights. We watched several porcupines ambling around, gennets and servals walking calmly in the red light, whereas in other camps we only ever saw their rear ends disappearing. I can't speak highly enough of Chiawa Camp's embracing of the fact based research showing that red lights don't disturb the animals. Chiawa was quite unique among all the camps we have visited and left us with the happiest memories.

Chiawa is one of the original camps in the park, based on the river it is as popular with elephants as it is with clients :) they are currently upgrading and spacing out the rooms so we can't wait to see that when it is done! The food and hosts were excellent and the game in the area was fantastic! My only gripe was I wish I could have stayed longer and tried the fishing! Thank you so much team for my stay!

Situated in another world inside ours, the surrounding environment is untouched, wild and natural. The Zambezi is huge, dotted with islands that are visited by elephants, hippos, and more. Elephants, hippos, warthogs, leopards and many more animals are in and out of the camp which is located inside their home. Amidst this exciting surrounding, Chiava Camp treats you with 5 course meals that will qualify as Michelin, classy spirits and wines, and a 5 star personalized service that is unmatched. When you book accomodation, it is all inclusive of meals, drinks, laundry service and activities such as game drives, canoeing and fishing. The chalets are huge with an indoor and outdoor bathroom, a soak tub, double wash basins with clean water. Each chalet also has a private outdoor verandah - ideal for meditating, painting or even writing a novel. Tip - This place has more leopard sightings than most. It's also an elephant nursery. If you're on the lookout for these, it's your best bet. Tip - Go early to get the most from your activity. They do not cram you with too many people in the jeep on game drives or on fishing trips. You may have a private drive or be with one or two other people at most. Tip - The camp is remote and the best access is from Jeki airport or Royal airport. That said, it is possible and economical to drive from Lusaka (6 hours or so). Chiava Luxury Camp doesn't need to advertise, 60% are repeat guests which speaks for itself and the others are recommendations. I love the place, the people, the wildlife and the immaculate service. I'm going back!

Having stayed in Old Mondoro first we thought we'd had the best luxury experience, but Chiawa takes it up a notch. The boat trip up river to get there was great, and on arrival we were met by the wonderful staff and taken to our fantastic rooms overlooking the Zambezi River. Our 4 days there were just magic, and every activity was professionally organised - we had many game drives, a walking safari, a canoe trip and they even organised a boat for us to view the Rugby World Cup upriver at a conservation hut - complete with drinks and snacks! I can't speak highly enough of the guides, especially Nobby and Moses, and Simon and Juliet made our stay just the best ever!

This past June was our fourth visit to Chiawa. We have traveled all over the world, and Chiawa and two other places in Zambia, one is their sister camp Old Mondoro, are the only places we have returned to this many times, and that is because it is superb in all respects. Not only is it always the same, but it is also always different. This time we splurged and stayed in the Safari Suite, and we were just blown away. It's pretty hard to exceed the "regular" tents, but if you want treat yourself, stay in the safari suite. The only problem is you want want to leave it. It has wonderful views out over the plain leading to the river, and their are animals there grazing or heading down to the river all the time. And that is what safari is all about--the animals. That's part of what's different every time. We always see something different every time we go out--not just every trip, but on every single game drive. If you want to see leopards, this is the place to go. i think we had multiple leopard sightings in the day time every time we went out. We have also never spent much time looking at birds, but this time we did, and we had a fantastic guide in Moses. I couldn't believe how much we saw that we have never seen before. We had never had Moses as a guide before, but he definitely matches up to every other guide at Chiawa, and we have now been out with almost all of them. That's one of the things that stays the same--the wonderful guides and staff. Daniel, Chris, Joshua, Boaz, Spenser, Simon and all of the other staff greeted us like old friends. We even got to see Juliet when we transferred to Old Mondoro. It's hard for anything to surpass perfection, but Chiawa does. The physical property itself, the service, the food and the activities cannot be matched anywhere else in Africa which is why we will be back again. If I could only recommend one activity, it would be the canoing. Do not miss out on this beautiful and peaceful experience. Thanks to everyone at Chiawa. See you next year.
