Nkonzi Camp is a small, authentic bush camp set deep inside the South Luangwa National Park. Four classic safari tents with double or twin beds and open-air en-suite bathrooms make up our accommodation. A colourful lounge area offers comfortable seating, and meals are enjoyed together in a shady grove of trees or in the beautiful dry river bed. A small honesty bar provides beer, wine, selected spirits and soft drinks. Tasty meals are prepared in our camp kitchen by our dedicated chef. We specialise in walking safaris, and other activities available include morning and night game drives, our all day drive, bush breakfast and cultural visits. We visited South Luangwa and Nkonzi in October 2019 and had a fantastic time. The camp is very isolated in the middle of the park which makes you feel like you are very close to nature, and on some drives it could take an hour until we saw another car. Sam was our guide and extremely knowledgeable and all the staff were great. Food, tents, service etc all good. But the most important thing was the experience of the guides and Gavin which was something special. thanks Gavin, Sam, Josphat and the whole team for an incredible experience. / Mikael & Nina

We arrived for 2 nights after having spent 2 nights in Kafunta Lodge. It is important not to look for the lavish lodge accommodation but rather for the exquisite and unique african bush. The tents are quite simple but they contain everything you need for a comfortable stay, it even comes with running water (by running water I mean staff running over to fill your shower bucket). The best part about it was the time we spent with Gavin the owner/guide who is extremely knowledgeable and interesting. He went out of his way to make our stay special, on long game drives with countless amazing explanations, hosting us every evening during dinner with tales and stories. It really made the place feel much more homelike, and connects well between all the guests. On the last night they arranged for our solo dinner to be taken under the stars in honor of our honeymoon, I cant say that I was not terrified of being in what is usually a "never go there alone at night" territory, but if he says its safe, then it is safe. Though note, this is not exactly glamping, this is the african bush.

Nkonzi Camp is a unique and exquisite bush camp in a secluded area of Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. We have had the pleasure of visiting this camp on two separate occasions. On our second visit, we were had a wonderful game viewing experience with Sam. He is a guide with many years of experience. ACCOMMODATION The tented accommodation is everything you need. It is simple yet comfortable – and hand constructed every year for the season. All tents overlook a dry riverbed and have an open-air bathroom attached to the tent. There is no running water to the shower, but that is one of the best things about the shower. When you are ready to wash the dust and sunscreen off, simply ask one of the amazing staff and a bucket of hot water will be attached to the shower quick-quick. GAME DRIVES Game drives start early, earlier than the sun rises, and during winter the early start comes with a bit of a chill. Being up early comes with many benefits not least of which is a breathtaking African sunrise with your morning coffee. Said morning coffee is served around a fire in the river bed. Gavin has a great program with something different to do every day, from full day drives to bush breakfasts. The two full-day drives that we experienced were the highlight for us. On each of the full day drives, we had excellent game viewing experiences. One of the absolute best part of the location of this camp is the isolation, we rarely saw other game viewing vehicles outside of the main area near the gate. SERVICE Gavin and his team know what they are doing. From cold beers on a game drive to homemade snacks for the sundowners, you will not be left wanting. The staff are attentive while in camp and full of interesting facts while out on drives. Gavin’s bush knowledge is insane which made the bush walks an exhilarating learning experience. FOOD While not prepared in camp, the local tomato chutney was a delicious discovery. All the meals were exceptional. A deeper appreciation is developed for the chef’s skills when you think that these brilliant meals were prepared in a very basic bush kitchen. During our week stay the menu never repeated, which is super impressive. Nkonzi Camp was our first experience of Zambia and they are a big reason we have fallen so in love with the country. We visited in winter just after the start of the season on our first visit and return for our second visit in August 2019.

From the second we arrived we were greeted with huge smiles and welcoming staff. Josephat and Sam were always available to help and to serve cool refreshing drinks. The food was incredible, and the portions were just right. Waking up to a view of the river bed and the sound of the Scops Owl was as much as anyone looking for a relaxing bush holiday away could ask for. We had a great drive and a spectacular walk, a pride of eight lions right outside the camp and hyenas calling through the night to remind you where you are. We would definitely go back, and all we would do differently would be to stay for longer! Thanks Gavin and all your team!

Don’t expect thrills, no fancy stuff, no luxury tents, no nothing... Expect being in the middle of the African bush in a very down to earth way with lots of warm and kind efforts of management and stuff making you a wonderful stay. We had this wonderful stay! Despite the fact that big parts of the camp were burned a few days before our arrival. We enjoyed our many game drives with wonderful breakfast and lunch brakes with breathtaking sceneries. We loved when Sam took us for a short walking safari to observe an elephant family. Thanks, Sam! We love to recommend Nkonzi when looking for basic African bush experience.
