Dear Branishka! Thank you very much for taking the time to post a review about your recent visit to Kafunta River Lodge. And again, Happy Birthday! I'm delighted to read that you were satisfied with all aspects of our services, even the one we don't control as easily, that is the game viewing. Wonderful to read you had great drives with Abel, and I hope that you will visit us again but for longer this time! Most sincerely, Izzy

South Luangwa is one of my favourite places in Southern Africa and Kafunta Lodge is one of the reasons. Perfect place to rest and forget about the rest of the world, where you can sleep among the hipos (literally) and go for a safari in the bush, early in the morning.

Dear Celal! Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review of Kafunta River Lodge after your stay in October! I'm really glad you have enjoyed your visit, and that we had the opportunity to allocate a private vehicle most of the time when you were there. It's also really good that you were able to see the Pel's Fishing Owl so often! Fantastic! Sorry about the TseTse flies, they were bad this year, it is the first time in Mfuwe area that we have so many of those little buggers! We look forward to your return visit when you can. Don't forget to share your camera trap footage please! Most sincerely, Izzy

Essentially we selected Kafunta for its location and the short and easy transfer from Mfuwe airport to the lodge: to give us a comfortable lodge in which to rest and recover from the twenty-four hours of international travel and to give us easy access into the central area of

Dear "Berdewelle", Thank you very much for your detailed review of Kafunta River Lodge! I'm really happy that you have enjoyed your short stay with us, and appreciated our location and services as a good start to your safari in South Luangwa. We are very privileged with our position on the floodplains of the Luangwa and having a direct access into the park by bypassing the main gate which, you are right, can be busy! I'm delighted to read that you have enjoyed your drives and watching elephants come through the lodge grounds. We had an entire pride of lions early November come and drink from the waterhole at 4pm, it was amazing! (sorry I get carried away, it's always so exciting). I hope you will visit us again on your next trip to Luangwa, and maybe consider checking out our bush camps further south of the park, to give you yet another perspective of what South Luangwa has to offer! Kind regards, Izzy

Hi there Sakshiabc. I'm Izzy, the reservations manager at Kafunta River Lodge. To give you an idea many lodges close from January until March, while the more remote bush camps close from November until May. This is due to the probability of rains. When rains start abundantly, it becomes very difficult to drive around due to the nature of the soil in the park. Lodges that are very near the main gate, and have access to "all weather roads" (elevated) are operating. But your road network drops greatly, is more limited in drives one can do. And the probability of getting stuck in the mud is high. BUT saying that, if it doesn't rain much, then it's stunning. Everything is green. No one can tell you what the rains will be like. It has been raining now for a couple of days but it can dry off again. Yes, animal sightings are harder just because of the vegetation. But plenty of birds (migrants) and still lots of opportunities to see plenty of wildlife. It is just a VERY different season (called green season, or emerald season but also secret season...) When it comes to Kafunta River Lodge, we are closed from Jan 5 to Mar 31. It is not worth keeping the lodge open during this time and we prefer to use the slow time to renovate and repair. Most sincerely, Izzy

Dear Salpal61! Thank you for your question, and my apologies for the late response on Trip Advisor, I hadn't received a notification for it. I did however receive your separate email to which I responded, so hopefully you have received that one! Of course I would be very happy to further discuss safari options for your husband and daughter by email, I do think we can help you with many suggestions and recommendations. Most sincerely, Izzy Reservations & Marketing Manager
