Spending time at two other camps, Mchenja was our last and didn't disappoint! Located along the river teaming with all types of birds, hippos, crocs and elephants, you don't need to leave the terrace of your lodge to see a show. Add to this brilliant game drives, newly refurbished rooms (cabins?) and deliciously varied food you can't go wrong. Much... More

Dear Globalbanker, we appreciate your review and it's great to see you liked the mix of authentic, natural camp, with all the creature comforts one could want! Promoting from within is a cornerstone of our company and we're proud that many of the team have been with us for years, if not decades. Thanks again. More

Last of the Norman Carr camps I stayed at. Took advantage of the bath which although rather indulgent was very nice. John was an excellent guide and we had very good sightings of leopard and lions. Beautiful sunset and sunrise right outside the room. Hi to Amy who has impeccable taste in music!

A little context before I describe our experiences. We are a couple of 53 and 59 who like our luxuries but are equally keen to get value for money. This trip involved 3 days in Livingstone (the 53 is the great great great granddaughter of Dr. David Livingstone) staying at Tongabezi, 3 days in the South Luangwa National Park staying... More

This was the third of four Norman Carr camps we visited during our 8 days in S Luangwa NP, This camp is on a bluff above the Luangwa R which flows year round. Brian was our guide-- he's very experienced and is a terriic guide. One evening we watched the Hollywood pride of 13 lions disappear into heavy bush. The... More

Norman Carr would be proud. The service level is off the charts. The food was out of this world. And the guiding was entertaining and informational. Mchenja is located in an ebony forest and it was delightful to be brushing my teeth and have the family of monkeys scampering in the tree above me. If it is in the hot... More

Thanks so much for your review - we have forwarded onto the team at Mchenja and Luwi (for your other review) and I can't tell you how much these comments give the team in the middle of the bush a great boost. You are part of the family now, so thanks again. More

This was the fifth and final of the Norman Carr bush camps we stayed at: it was (to our eyes at least) the most luxurious of all the five camps and was exceptionally well run with outstanding game viewing. We had taken the option to walk from Kakuli Camp as part of our morning nature experience: we set out on... More

David - thanks again for reviewing all five of our camps you stayed at - sounds like you had some pretty amazing leopard viewing throughout, but to see one on foot is always a very special moment and one not forgotten quickly. I find the experience when you hear the alarm calls and only catch a glimpse of the predator... More

Great location, fantastic sunrises over the river. Excellent breakfasts cooked by the friendly team. We went on game drives, seeing all the major species. Our guide, Julius, was good, knew where best to go. Time back at camp at midday was very relaxing, the location is so very good. Evening drives were excellent; we saw a pride of lions devouring... This camp was the last in a series of 5 camps I visited during my safari with Norman Carr safaris and, like Kapani, Luwi, Nsolo, and Kakuli, which preceeded, it held the same high standard. The rooms at Mchenja are the most unique in amenities than the other camps because of the fact that each one has their own free... More

This wonderful little camp was our last stop on our 9 night safari to South Luangwa with Norman Carr. It is real luxury in the bush with terrific staff and great food. The whole camp is simply amazing and the guiding was superb. We had a truly fabulous safari and can't wait to go back as soon as we can!!!

As I've said on your other camp reviews....It was great to have you both back again at Kapani, Luwi, Nsolo, Kakuli and Mchenja - some for the fourth time since 2009! Our team is like a big family and that extends through to you, who start as our guests and quickly become friends....as corny as that sounds it's also true! More

We came to Zambia, having been on safari once before in South Africa. My husband, myself, daughter 17 and son 14. We were looking for something a bit different. We certainly found that here at Mchenja! What an amazing camp - literally in the middle of the bush. All showers/toilets were outside and we knew there was no connection to... More
