There’s nothing quite like waking up at The Bushcamp Company's Chamilandu. Early morning views don’t get much better – the rippling waters of the Luangwa River, the gentle rise of the Chindeni Hills and a vast African sky especially when you’re lying in a four poster bed in a stilted tree-house. Camp can accommodate up to six guests in three raised tree-houses and offers guided walking safaris, plus day and night game drives (open from June to November).

I have been to the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia several times. I frequently stay at the Bushcamp properties; Chamilandu being one of them. I have never been disappointed. This is not a hotel. It is a small private camp that can accommodate 6 guests. It provides a true bush experience in a luxurious manner. It has 3 ensuite thatched roof elevated chalets. Each has a deck that provides a stunning view of the Luangwa River. Rooms are serviced several times a day by friendly staff. Food is excellent - they are very attentive to special dietary needs. Laundry is done daily and is included. There is no internet connectivity or cell service - you truly get away from it all. The guides are excellent. Wildlife viewing is as good as it gets. I have taken award winning photos in this area. Game drives are in well maintained Land Rovers. The vehicles can hold up to 9 guests but I have never had more than 6, often it is only our group of 2 or 4. Chami has a hide (some call it a blind) where you can relax and watch all types of game come to a watere hole. A unique feature of Chamilandu and the other Bushcamps is the walking safari. You can even hike (with a guide and scout) from one camp to another. On a walking safari the game tends to be shy and runs off. What you do get is in-depth knowledge of the bush including everything you ever wanted to know about scat. All in all a great location at a fair price.

This was our first Bushcamp after a few days up at Mfuwe Lodge. A stunning remote location on the banks of the Luangwa River. The heartbeat of the camp is Margaret whose infectious enthusiasm ensures that you're immediately settled in. The chalets are beautiful, raised on stilts, with stunning viewing points. Our safari guide was Steve who was fantastic, spending much time with the (teenage) children, teaching them about both the flora and fauna as well as how to track the animals from their trails. The walking safaris at sunrise were amazing and gave a quite different perspective from viewing from the back of the jeep. Back at camp, we made use of the hide and were lucky enough to see giraffe meander through camp! There are always a few surprises up the Chamilandu team's sleeve and both Bushcamp pizza and Mongolian night will live long in the memory with the whole family! A wonderful stay made all the more special by the Chamilandu team...thank you!

This was the last camp we visited on our Bushcamp Company circuit! It's the most luxurious so a great place to end. The staff, food, guides, etc were amazing! We hated to leave! I highly recommend this camp.

Only 3 "tree houses" on stilts fronting the Luangwa River. We spent 3 nights here (after spending 3 nights in Chindeni, and before spending 3 nights in Bilimungwe). Loved sitting on the deck, watching the animals come to the river to drink and play (baby elephants). There is a hide on a water hole where we had brunch and watched elephant "families" roll around in the mud and take baths. Amazing food, just like all the other Bush Camp properties we visited. And Fanuell was perhaps the most knowledgeable guide we have had in our 5 trips to Africa.

Chamilandu was the first of our two camps in The Bushcamp and we could not have dreamed of a better experience! The manager and our guide Faneuil was so knowledgeable. Our room was perfect and we loved being able to open the front to the river and hearing the morning sounds of the hippos and the afternoon migration of the elephants! We got to see almost every animal on our checklist and the biggest highlight was seeing a lion kill of a warthog! Every day was a new adventure and we loved ending the day with sundowners. And wood fired pizza in the middle of the Bush was a real treat! Chamilandu exceeded my hopes and expectations for an African experience!
