We had an absolutely amazing time. On the drive from the airport to the lodge we saw nearly everything we had come to see but every game drive seemed to produce something new. The food was amazing and the lodge extremely comfortable. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and we could not have wished for a better experience for our first Safari.

This was a solo weekend trip for me. I wanted a more adult and less touristy experience. I like the higher-end, yet non-pretentious form of comfort. And I like to discover magical places before the mad crowds swoop in. Fortunately, Chikunto fit the bill perfectly. Firstly, the park itself is amazing. It is rich in wildlife and vegetation and has a remarkably varied terrain. It’s also not overly touristy. So you get an authentic feel for Africa’s diverse nature and you don’t run into traffic jams. I didn’t necessarily expect to hit all the requisite animal sightings, but I did see quite a bit anyways—the park is teeming with all sorts of big and small game. Chikunto enables you to experience all the magic of this unique park from a secluded, yet central location. The lodge delivered in other ways too. It’s a newer, higher-end property with a highly reputable manager (Jens), and overseen by Josephat, who is rightfully a legend in these parts for his guiding skills. He has a 6th sense when it comes to deciphering the mysteries of nature, so the generously lengthy game drives were all exhilarating. The whole team at Chikunto was excellent and didn’t skip a beat in terms of service. Food and alcohol were plentiful and the meals were all delicious. The place itself is meticulous in its design and upkeep and blends in well with nature. Notably, zero mosquitos, bugs or other critters got into the room. Imagine that!!! As it was mid-Oct, it did get pretty hot during the brief afternoon siesta. But otherwise, the room was spacious, private, comfortable and well-situated for spotting animals coming in and out of the river to graze. Only two other guests stayed the weekend at the lodge—quite a lovely couple at that. Seeing some of the jeeps around the park packed with tourists made me thankful for my choice. One unexpected highlight was stopping in at DJ Xtra Tall’s bar in Mfuwe for some beer and pool before my flight. DJ Xtra tall himself is a riot. Josephat, two of Chikunto’s staff and my fellow guests from the lodge all serendipitously showed up for what turned out to be a perfect little party to cap off the weekend.

Chikunto is a stunning lodge, everything is so carefully selected and stylish, you can see that real care has gone into every detail, the rooms are incredibly spacious and with the comfiest beds overlooking the magnificent view. We had Josephat as our guide, a real bush guru who's been guiding in the park for over 20 years, and it felt like we had the whole park to ourselves! This area is so exclusive and hardly another vehicle was seen, we were there for 2 nights and saw everything! Lion, leopard, wild dog and their pups, 300 strong herd of buffalo, giraffes galore, and so on, all without any other vehicles peering over our shoulder. Now the food here is a big highlight. Truly outstanding and I don't know how they do it being so deep in the park but they deliver over and above! Really creative and delicious meals full of flavour and beautifully presented, there wasn't a moment where we weren't well fed, coming back home and cooking for myself was very sad in deed! Haha. Oh and be sure to book yourself if for a massage on your private deck in between dips in the pool - bliss. Cannot wait to return! Thank you team!

This is my second time to Chikunto (yes I love it that much!) and I was blown over! Some incredible improvements to the already incredible camp! As always the food was incredible, staff so friendly and the wildlife - the best yet!! We were lucky enough to have wild dog in camp who some other guests saw making a kill in the morning!! We managed to see them and their puppies when we arrived and in the 3 days we were there we barely saw another car. Chikunto have also go a resident masseuse who melted away any aches from bumpy game drives-heaven! I can't say I wanted to leave this is one of my favourite spots for safari! Honestly one of the best placed lodges in the park with no one around except the animals who also seem to love it! We will be back!
