We spent 1 week at this great lodge with 9 family members. We had a great time. We were amazed with the amount of animals we saw everyday. Our guide Manny was so knowledgeable and we could tell he loved being in the bush and teaching us all he knew. Chef Jeff and his staff were wonderful and did a great job accommodating our dietary needs. Can't wait for his cookbook to be published. Irene was so kind and did a wonderful job making our stay a comfortable one. The lodge did a great job with our large group. The extra lunches and sundowners they did for us were fantastic. Our "tents" were very comfortable and housekeeping did a great job with our laundry. All in all we were very pleased with our whole experience and would recommend this lodge to anyone. If you get the chance while you are there go visit the school that the lodge sponsors. Those kids will melt your ❤.

This was my first safari trip and now I am spoiled, because the Chikunto Safari Lodge in Zambia delivered such a wonderful experience. Chikunto’s lodge is situated close to the river, with nearby plains and forest so you get to see an abundant selection of animals in a variety of different environments. (I was amazed at how close we got to the animals; this is definitely not like being at the zoo!) I also appreciated that the lodge was deep enough inside the South Luangwa park that it was animals that we encountered, not other tourists. Our guides, Manny and Rodgers, had extensive knowledge and insights about the animals, birds, plants and ecosystems of the region, which they shared with passion and enthusiasm. Their intimate understanding of the animals led to special encounters with leopards, lions, painted dogs, hyenas and so much more. Every day was a new adventure. They and all the Chikunto gang work hard to make sure you have an amazing safari experience. And after each outing we came back to warm towels, cold beverages and a delicious 3 course meal. Definitely not roughing it. Later when we lazed around the pool or relaxed on our cabin’s veranda, it still felt like being part of The Lion King as we saw elephants, zebras, impalas, and giraffes wander by, while hippos in the river serenaded us with their grunts. If you are looking for a safari trip that combines amazing animals, delicious food, comfy accommodations, and caring staff, then you would love Chikunto. Only problem you will have is picking out your favorite pictures after the trip.

From the moment we arrived at Chikunto, we were treated like family. The entire staff made us feel welcome, the accommodations were beautiful (with wildlife right outside the Lodge), and we can't say enough about the incredible food! Everything about Chikunto exceeded our expectations, and we would recommend, without hesitation, a week long stay! Mwanza, as the manager of the lodge, was so helpful with every component of our safari! We booked the Stargazer platform as a special treat, and had an amazing meal and of course the beautiful, star filled sky made for an extra incredible experience. Our Safari guide James made each ride an adventure. We were so impressed with his wealth of knowledge and we appreciated his willingness to work hard to discover everything we hoped. Whether you're planning your first Safari or your 10th, your experience at Chikunto will be spectacular.

Dear traveller, Greetings on behalf of your whole Chikunto family and many thanks for this positive feedback on what you were able to experience with us. It always puts a smile on my face when we have once again managed to impress our guests and yes, I'm particularly proud of our stargazing platform, because my team and I were able to deal with this project in a meaningful way during the Corona period. Everyone actively helped to make this add-on another real highlight at Chikunto. A highlight that nobody should miss. :-) All the best, stay healthy and thank you very much again for your visit! We look forward seeing you again in the not so far future! Jens

My husband and I wanted to do a grand safari trip for our 30th anniversary but then Covid delayed everything. Two years later we finally made it to the Chikuntu Safari Lodge and the anticipation was well worth it. This place is magical. You cannot help but feel completely immersed in the nature, beauty, serenity, mystery, and excitement of this location. I could write for days about how wonderful our experience was but I will spare you. So first the basics - the lodge is immaculately kept and it is gorgeous. The suites are well-appointed and very comfortable. (Hard to know they are tents until you touch the canvas walls!) If you can stay in the new stargazer suite for a night or two, do it! It is an open platform with a king bed and couch and you sleep under the stars, surrounded by a cool breeze and the sounds of nature. We went in August so the weather was pleasant. The enclosed suites are lovely but they do not have air conditioning. However, the weather does cool at night so one should be comfortable even with just the ceiling fan. The lodge has a small pool, fire pit, and bar. The common areas, including the dining room, overlook the plains so that you can enjoy the great variety of wildlife wherever you may be. The food is amazing and plentiful. Every meal is beautifully plated and delicious. The staff is very friendly and attentive, always ensuring that you are satisfied and that your wine glass is never empty! There are 2 daily game drives. One leaves around 6 am, the other at around 4 pm. On each drive there is a break for coffee or sunset cocktails in the park. (In case you are wondering (I did!), the guide will find safe spots for anyone who needs a comfort stop during the break!). The guides are very very well versed in the flora and fauna of this area and will share as much or as little information as you want about it. Our guide had infinite knowledge about everything from all the insects to the many varieties of birds in the valley. During our drives with Manny as our guide we saw countless lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, painted dogs, hippos, Cape buffalo, fish eagles, hyenas, crocodiles, and so much more. We learned so much from Manny! Don’t skip any of the drives because each drive brings a new adventure. Now for the extras. You can book a massage between game drives. This was an unexpected offering that we took full advantage of! The bar is very well-stocked and specializes in many different types of gins and tonics. Benjamin is the best bar tender! You will be asked if you’d like to try a traditional Zambian meal, do it! You will learn how to eat nshima, a staple food of Zambia. Where else can you learn how to enjoy this rich tradition without judgment? (I was not so graceful in eating without utensils but thankfully nobody laughed!). By the way, it was delicious. I cannot say enough positive things about Chikuntu. Do yourself a favor - if a safari is on your bucket list, book Chikuntu!!!

An African safari was a bucket list trip for my mom, so we planned a mother-daughter trip to Chikunto Safaris Lodge. Our expectations were super high and Chikunto blew them out of the water! From the exceptional hospitality of the staff, the twice a day game drives to the extremely knowledgeable guides and delicious food, the experience was five star from start to finish. After every trip, I try to pick my favorite part of the experience. It’s nearly impossible to pick something from our stay at Chikunto! The stargazing platform was perfect for Milky Way viewing, the game drives were exciting and different every day, watching the animals roam while relaxing by the pool, the sounds of the wildlife lulling me to sleep, the unreal sunrises and sunsets, or eating way too much food (I cannot overstate how delicious the food is). Everything was so good what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip may turn into more than once-in-a-lifetime! If you’re considering a trip to Zambia, do not hesitate to book with Chikunto. You will not be disappointed!

Dear jessica, I don't even know how to react to your wonderful feedback, I'm so proud that we were able to give your mom and you this wonderful experience. Thank you very much for sharing your experience with others who are planning a trip to Africa or have one on their bucket list! :-) Feedback like yours shows me that the work, time and effort we put into our little jewel in the African bush was absolutely worth it and that we managed to pass on our own ideas and expectations of a trip to Africa to our guests. Take care and all the best from your Chikunto family! Jens

We had always dreamed of going on an African Safari, and when we were able to piece a trip together after COVID, we thought we had a pretty good idea of what we were in for. Boy were we wrong! The experience at Chikunto FAR EXCEEDED anything we could have even dreamed of. We spent seven nights with the staff, and somehow every day exceeded the one before in how magical and awesome (In the truest sense of the word) the experience was. The whole trip was filled with adventure, luxury service, and unexpected delights. After these seven days, I honestly feel bad for people who choose to go to the larger parks where they are crowded at animal sightings and not experiencing the total immersion that Chikunto provides. The staff and food were absolutely amazing, and we can't wait to make a second trip back.

My husband and I just returned from our African safari. Chikunto Lodge more than exceeded our expectations. Their people are loving, caring and so dedicated in making your experience most memorable. Everything from the comfort of the safari jeep seats, the serenity of the cool breezes through our chalet, the animal and bird sounds, the food (oh the food!) and the knowledge of our guide and his assistant were way more than we ever imagined. It was like I didn’t have to think, just feel the beauty of Zambia. One of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed.

The game drives in South Luangwa National Park are truly amazing. The density of wildlife is delightful! However, it is the team at Chikunto that makes you feel like you have arrived at your home away from home from the moment you are picked up from the Airport - This makes it the trip of a lifetime. The schedule and the meals run like clockwork. The food is 5 star - which is a feat considering you are in remote Zambia. The chef also accommodated our wish to have traditional Zambian food as well. I have been on Safari before and have been touched by the experience. This time, Chikunto left a mark. Thank you Mwansa, Robert, Caphas, Manny, Ben and the team! We'll see you again

Great staff, except for manager and owners. Great game drives. Accommodation is poor, rooms are hot, impossible to be comfortable in the afternoon during rest period. Food is average and sparse. Don't think to ask for seconds. Wifi is all but non existent. Manager refused to allow me to talk with the owner about problems. I feel cheated here. Totally overpriced. Been to three other properties around Africa on the same trip, each was better, none cost more than 15 percent of the price of Chikunto. Would love to write more, but have no idea why my original more detailed review was deleted? Find a better property, don't patronize this place.

Dear RTWtraveler213 Thank you for your positive feedback about the staff and the game drives at Chikunto. In terms of your original review, we drew a number of factual inaccuracies to the attention of the TripAdvisor team, and it was their decision to remove your review. It is not something that we have had cause to do in the past and we welcome all honest and balanced feedback, with the whole Chikunto Team being very much committed to a process of continuous improvement. Based on your comments, I am sorry that your expectations do not seem to have been met. We are a boutique Safari Lodge / Camp, in an ideal location for animal viewing, in the middle of the remote Zambian bush with a reputation for delivering a warm, personable service and consistently excellent food – as highlighted in most other reviews. Unlike many other properties in the area, we do provide access to WiFi, though it would be fair to describe it as ‘bush WiFi’ with occasional temporary connection issues rather than high-speed broadband. We do not pretend to be anything else, and we are not trying to emulate the ‘all you can eat buffet / limitless alcohol’ that can be found in some popular fully-inclusive holiday resorts elsewhere in the world. I am sorry that you did not find our tented Suites to your liking. You are correct that our remote location means there is no air-conditioning – there are large central fans in each tented Suite. Out of interest for July in the South Luangwa there is an average temperature low of 61°F and high of 81°F. I am sorry that you did not find this comfortable. Our highly experienced manager at the lodge was initially trying to look after you and to minimise the impact your behaviour was having on our other guests. When I did try and make contact with you by telephone you would not take my calls. At that stage one of the options we were preparing to discuss with you was removing you from the property as your behaviour was having a negative impact on some of our other guests. This did not come to pass as the situation seemed to improve when the WiFi came back on stream. Perhaps it is a shame that this discussion never took place. Your comment about being over-priced is quite amusing. You visited 3 other properties that included all game drives, park fees, all meals and drinks (including alcohol…) and airport transfers for less than 15% of what you paid for your stay at Chikunto. I will say no more. I am genuinely sorry that your stay did not match your expectations, though I take some comfort in the fact that the vast majority of our guests seem to have had a different experience to your own. Kind regards Jens

Chikunto was the best vacation I've ever had, the staff is amazing, the food was delicious, the safaris we went on twice a day and all the beautiful animals we got to see were amazing, the accommodations incredible, definitely 5 star on everything, they didn't miss a thing. Will be going back, we fell in love with everyone we met at the Lodge and in the villages. Amazing and beautiful people, all of them.
