Kaingu Lodge is situated on the river forming the boundary of the Kafue National Park. Access to the lodge is either through the park and then by boat transfer or by direct road transfer through the Game Management Area. Activities include game drives (in the park and the GMA), walks, canoeing and boating. Cultural visits and school visits can also be arranged. Accommodation comprises luxury tents with indoor and outdoor showers! Owner managed and flexible, Kaingu also welcomes families and can arrange childrens activities as well as free child minders to allow parents a rest. The lodge provides a true wilderness experience that lures repeat guests back time and time again. The completion of the 'spinal road' through the top end of the park means that access to us is now easier than ever and we are now within reach for a fabulous weekend trip.

I've now stayed at Kaingu on 3 occasions, its so great I keep going back! The rooms are fantastic, and each room has unique quirks from the next, on the rivers edge you're more than likely going to hear hippos close to your chalet during the night or in the early morning. Homemade Soaps are individually wrapped for your use - there's even a small shop where you can buy extras and locally made items! Going out on the boat you experience scenery so beautiful it looks surreal, with elephants regularly crossing on the various rapids. Also great for fishing - if I was more patient at fishing Im sure I would have caught many more! On my recent stay, I did the canoeing and it was one of my most breathtaking experiences - to be in the Kafue River in a 2 man canoe - no engine sound just you and nature - thoroughly recommend this activity and I know when I visit again I will do it again! Game Drives are conducted on the other side of the river - where there's regularly Leopard, Wild Dog, Elephant and much more! The Kaingu team are very accommodating to your needs and making you feel incredibly welcome. The food is also amazing, a great variety and can cater for those with dietry requirements. Accessing Kaingu - its very well sign posted! Depending on where you're travelling from it would be difficult to get lost! A must stay within Kafue National Park and Zambia!

We camped at Kaingu for 4 nights. The campsites are great and well spaced out, but the local monkeys are quite persisitent and we lost various pieces of food, especially when going out for the day. Game drives in the park were good ( across the river) and we also did self drive game drives in the GMA. Swimming in the pools at the rapids is possible and very refreshing, even in July, so bring your swimmers. The staff were great and pleasent and we would also recommend the walk to the large rock for Sundowners. The kids also enjoyed an afternoon of activities organised by the staff. The showers are also awesome - perhaps the best camping showers we have ever used. We drove in from the Itezhi Tezhi Road and it takes about 5 hrs from Lusaka. The road is mostly good, but the last hour is on bush tracks once you turn off the main tar.

Food is big when we travel, and KaingU Lodge definitely didn’t disappoint! Working alongside the neighbouring communities, ingredients are sourced as close to the lodge as possible ... and then turned into delicious, inimitable dishes, often influenced by one of the owner’s German heritage. We loved mealtimes! The lodge, balanced on the edge of the Kafue River, was environmentally-thoughtful and peaceful; the accommodation clean and private, with fun design flourishes. The staff were all fantastic, and we made great friends with those among whom we interacted. Our guide knew the area intimately, and the owners went out of their way to make us feel at home. We highly recommend KaingU to anyone in need of a quiet, special getaway.

Kaingu is very special. Highlights included arriving by boat; enjoying wonderfully varied meals; friendly and knowledgeable staff; experiencing Zambian wildlife from a tiny mouse in the wall to elephants wading across the river. Relaxing Africa, highly recommended!
