Travelers' Choice
The lodge is located in the famous Skeleton Coast Central Concession between the Hoarusib and Hoanib Rivers in the Skeleton Coast Park, only 45 km north of Mowe Bay. The lodge is situated on the southern bank of the Huarusib River Mouth, nestled between the dunes with a view of the Atlantic Ocean where the cold Benguela current pushes a refreshing breeze over the shipwreck shaped cabins. Self-Drive Clients Clients will enter the Skeleton Coast National Park and will be driving along a gravel road towards Möwe Bay. This is where the client’s pick-up will take please. Please note: The roads are gravel roads and are subject to the weather and wind that might affect the road conditions. Therefore, self-drive clients are advised to drive a high clearance and 4x4 vehicle, especially between Terrace Bay and Möwe Bay. The last cellphone signal for communication and petrol station will be in Terrace Bay.

Shipwreck was 3 nights well spent! What an amazing concept to have an entire lodge constructed on a sand dune. All the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. You never go hungry as you are fed regularly with delicious meals. Activites are great and exploring the magificent Hoarusib Riverbed to see roaring dunes, springs amongst the narrow gorges and delicate clay castle formations were absolutely breath-taking. The beach was wonderfully desolate and we even some some antelopes drinking from freshwater springs right next to the ocean. At the end of the day, to retreat to your ultra-comfortable room and having a nice hot solar-heated shower after exploring the area, you flop down into your comfortable bed for the best sleep ever! Thanks all staff at Shipwreck for an unforgetable experience!

Any attempt to describe Shipwreck Lodge will be mostly futile, but I will do my best! Just saying this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience isn’t enough to cover it all, this is something you can’t get anywhere else and is worth every penny. The sound of the waves crashing on the beach as you dine just in front, quad biking over untouched dunes, just being in one of the most desolate places on earth and just letting that soak in - incredible. The rooms are understated luxury at its best; nothing gaudy or tacky & everything to remind you of where you are. A true credit to Namibia

We spent 2 nights at S.L. This place is truly special. We decided to drive up from Swakopmund and the drive itself is fun, especially when you leave civilization behind as you enter Skeleton Coast but especially past Terrace Bay. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be an expert driver but you do need a 4x4 past Terrace Bay. Upon pickup by the hotel staff at Mowe Bay, we start our 1hr tour to get to Shipwreck Lodge. On the way, you stop to these some small shipwrecks, seals spot and you can admire the landscape all you want as it is all yours anyway! As this was the Covid Xmas period, the meaning “socially-distanced” takes a whole new meaning in Namibia and in this place in particular - there is not a soul around except for the few guests at the lodge. The service is friendly and impeccable - special mention of Serafina. The lodges are beautiful and well appointed but you’d expect this in this location and for the price. The excursions are really nice - we did the Hoanib river - our guide was Immanuel and he was really friendly and knew the region well, this was an informative tour. So all is very nice indeed but what will stay with you are the landscapes, the wind, the ocean (great beach lunch on a sunny day) and the privilege you feel to stay at this special place with these very few individuals who made it all the way to this remote location. Even internet was not working there and there is no cell phone reception!

To stay here is a once in a lifetime 5 star eco luxury experience! Located very remotely in the dessert with view of the atlantic a 15 minute drive away. Not often you see this rare combination of location, architecture and top notch service. The closest airstrip for small 1 engine planes is about 1,5 hours away by car. Rooms are housed in cabins that resemble a shipwreck. All cabins are spacious and have a great view, a well designed bedroom, a great bathroom and have a little outside terrace. You have all amenities you might need at hand. In the night you hear the silence and you are overwhelmed by the beauty of the stars in the sky. Public spaces are tastefully furnished and decorated. There is a very chic and cosy vibe everywhere. Food is fantastic and service friendly, attentive and professional. They offer all sorts of activities (like sundowner in the desert, quad rides in the dunes, 4x4 drives in the canyon etc) with experienced and friendly guides.

Obviously one the best Lodge we've been in Namibia. This lodge is a challenge by itself, in the middle of nowhere, remote, surrounded by huge dunes, facing the atlantic ocean. Every details are well thinking, a tastefull expresso at the sun set makes you feel at home. The Chalet is well furbished, cosy like a cocoon. All activities from the Lodge are great (quad, sundowners, canyon...) made by experienced and friendly guides. You will love that place, I highly recommend it.
