Le Mirage Resort & Spa, while praised for its exceptional service and spotless cleanliness, has received mixed reviews regarding value. Many guests feel the prices, particularly of the spa, do not match the experience. Although the hotel's remote location is lauded for its proximity to Sossousvlei dunes and excellent food and wine offerings, some find the atmosphere charming yet dated, with the need for better upkeep. The rooms are commended for their space and comfort, but noise insulation and modernity are areas for improvement. The amenities, including the beautiful pool and dining options, are generally appreciated despite some maintenance concerns.

We spent two nights at Le Mirage in July 2020 while Namibia was under lock-down. The four of us were the only guests for the first night so we had the privilege to enjoy the entire hotel for ourselves. The staff took wonderful care of us, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed at the Oasis rooms but also went to see the other rooms in the reception building which are slightly smaller but equally lovely. The only small regret we had was that the walls between the rooms are not very well insulated so you can hear next door quite clearly.
The food was wonderful, the menu very imaginative and the one member of our party with special dietary requirements was well looked after also.
The views from the garden are stunning and the balloon company is right next door. It's only a short drive to the main gate for the Sossusvlei dunes, so the location of Le Mirage is very convenient.
We would love to stay there again.

The staff were extreme professional, and their primary goal seemed to be to give us the best time possible.

Our package included a 5-course dinner. The tables were set with the appropriate cutlery sets to go with the meal, which made you feel like royalty. The portions serviced were correctly sized that one could complete all the meal courses.

The hotel is ideally location for visits to Sossusvlei. After visits to Sossusvlei the swimming pool at Spa came as a welcomed cool-off (the hotel even provide pool towels) before our sun downer drinks and evening meals.

Our room was spacious with everything you could wish for including a balcony.

We spent two nights at this jewel of a hotel.

This place is stunning. The resort itself is a castle in the middle of the desert and it has such a wonderful atmosphere.

We were checked in by Umawe, she was friendly welcoming and she promptly ensured we were refreshed with a glass of iced tea and cold towel after our long drive. She showed us the resort and to our rooms confirming our booking of the tower room for one night. We added another night onto our booking as the resort is so lovely.

The food here is excellent, we had a schnitzel lunch by the pool one day but the 5 course meal of an evening provided by Seymour and his team is simply divine. The soups starters and puddings are fixed but there is a choice of main so the menu really does suit everyone. There was a prawn and calamari salad starter which truly was phenomenal. All of the food was well balanced and it was lovely that Seymour came out at the end of service for comments. We mentioned to him on the first that mousse based puddings were not our thing and on day 2 we had a glorious sponge cake as the offering. The service here is excellent.

Our waiter was Sylvester and he was wonderful, attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble, he also offered fabulous wine recommendations. It was a pleasure to be served by him and he even went the extra mile of setting us a table outside for our final morning he is a diamond.

Breakfast here is very good too with plenty of choice both hot and cold.

Our only area for improvement was that the pool should be heated it was too cold for me to go in and those brave enough only lasted a minute or two before having to get out.

The tower room was fabulous and for £39 extra is a unique experience worth doing, the view of the stars is sensational but be prepared to be woken early by birds investigating the platter that is left for you! We found it quite funny but others may not.

Thanks for a magnificent stay le mirage, we will be back when we next visit Namibia

Beautifully situated.
Excellent Service which remains consistent for the entire duration of the stay
Stunning views.
The quad Biking was worth it and the best Quad Biking tour I have experienced in Namibia.
The rooms are well designed, spacious and relaxing.
The limiting of wifi reception to the communal areas is ingenious. One is forced to stop and take in the surroundings.

The remote location is stunning. Quite impressive photos of the scenery. Rooms, while big, did cool down with the AC. And, the facilities worked fine. But, don't stay here if you are trying to photograph animals. During our stay, late afternoon, just before dinner, a group of zebra approached the hotel and gathered near a dead tree (placed there?) near the hotel grounds. I went to get my tripod for some shots, but as I returned, a hotel employee went out and flushed the animals away from the site. I don't know what damage they may be causing, if any, but seems like the employee (Jimmie?) didn't want them around. Shame. Would have made a great photo against the mountains in the background. So, if animal photos are your thing, stay elsewhere.

This is the 2nd time we visited and once again we were not disappointed. The ambience is wonderful, the staff friendly and efficient and the food excellent. They were able to accommodate my wife's special dietary needs. She has coeliac disease and has to follow a strict, 100% gluten and lactose free diet, which can be a challenge when eating out. Not here. The chef personally made sure she was taken good care of.
The place is also conveniently located if you want to explore the surrounding area or participate in some of the activities on offer (we went hot-air ballooning in the morning, right next door to La Mirage). But it is also perfect for just relaxing, with a well-equipped spa.
I can only highly recommend La Mirage, especially if you are looking for a more luxurious experience.

My husband and I chose this amazing location for our 5th wedding anniversary. We were mesmerized by the beauty of the resort. The beautiful spacious oasis room with a balcony , room service , meals ( 5 course meal ), the spa and the day trip tour to Sossusvlei can be rated as excellent services without any fault from us. The chef made time once the last guest was served dinner and engaged with guests to find out if they were happy with what he served them. That was classy service for us. Thank you to all the staff that made our 3 nights stay a memorable one. A special thank you to Maria the waitress and Johanas the waiter. We will definitely be back.

Le Mirage is in the middle of nowhere. There are three similar buildings in the small complex: one that houses the restaurant, one with the reception and some guest rooms, and one with the spa, pool and more rooms.

There is an artificial watering hole which attracted jackals and oryx which you could easily photograph.

The room was large but had little upholstery, so felt oddly Spartan although it had everything we wanted.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Liliana in the restaurant and Fleming who took our tour were particularly good. The tour was a particular highlight; Fleming made it clear at the start you could choose to hike up the highest dune, normal dunes or admire them from the ground in the Deadvlei. The group chose to different things and he accommodated them all with a smile.

The food was simple at lunch but good (Schnitzel and burgers) and at night there was a 5 course meal with a different main each night. The standard was excellent especially considering the location and logistical difficulties they must have in delivering such food.

We stayed for 1 night. This lodge is very close to the Sossusvlei gate. We really enjoyed a lazy day next to the pool, with staff who brought you everything your heart desires. We also really appreciated the fact that the lunch menu and drinks were very affordable, and not over priced as you would find in many other lodges. We are from Namibia so we have stayed at many of the surrounding lodges, and this surely was one of the best. We did not get time to enjoy the spa facilities, but it looked amazing. The room was very spacious and clean with a fridge and aircon. The 5 course dinner that was included with our stay was amazing. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The only points of critique that I can give is that the aircon is a bit small for the room, but this is only a problem if you go during the hottest time of the year, and the only other thing is that the portion sizes with the dinner and breakfast was a bit small for me. I am however a big guy with a big appetite, so I am sure it would be perfectly fine for anybody else. Overall an amazing stay and experience.

A normal car is fine, but a 4x4 is more comfortable on the gravel roads. But plenty of guest arrive in normal cars. When visiting the Sossus park, a normal car will do as well. For the last kilometers to the dead vlei a 4x4 is required. You can park before the 4x4 section and take a shuttle to the dead vlei. When you go on a guided tour from le Mirage, they will take the own 4x4 jeeps and the guide will tell you more about the area. For the organized nature drives next to le Mirage, the lodge has their own Jeeps or quadbikes (=recommended). It is not possible to do this tour by own car.

Hi, what's the best way of travelling to Le Mirage from Windhoek if we don't want to self-drive?
Answer from Maarten Z
Breda, The Netherlands3 contributions2 helpful votes
Hi. There is a small airstrip just a few kilometers from the lodge. Small planes (like Cesna's) can land there. It's fast and a beautiful flight, but also a more expensive option (compared to self-drive). It is also possible to have a tour-gide drive you from Windhoek. For more information I would recommend contacting the booking office ResDest at or +264 61 224712. They can provide you with more information and prices.

Hi. Yes, this is a Malaria free area. In Namibia, the Malaria area is only in the north.
Answer from Maarten Z

Hi Scott. Most people visit le Mirage by car (rented). The road from Windhoek to le Mirage is a beautiful drive. You see the landscape changing all the time. It's also possible to go by a small plane (like a Cesna) and land on the nearby airstrip. A Shuttle service is possible, but most people make a tour though Namibia. So after le Mirage (and a trip to the Sossusvlei), they go though to for example the coast (Walvisbaai/Swakopmund).
Answer from Maarten Z
Breda, The Netherlands3 contributions2 helpful votes
Hi Rene, Great to hear you will be visiting le Mirage. If you've never been to the Sossusvlei, that's a must-do (as the highlight of the area). You can do it by self-drive, or by the lodge. I also recommend the quad tour. It's not like racing, but touring, and a unique way to discover the area. Normally, pre-booking is not required, but only for the quadbike I would recommend to still do it. For the the Sossusvlei trip, you normally leave at sunrise. And the quad trip is the best to do at sundown. Combining both on 1 day is possible, but can be quite exhausting. If you stay for two nights, I would recommend dividing it. So maybe the quad-bike the day you arrive, and the Sossusvlei drive the next day. P.s. I manage tripadvisor from another location then the lodge. For pre-bookings or more detailed questions, it's easiest to contact the lodge directly. I can't paste the contact details here, but you can find them on our website. Have a great trip and I look forward to reading about your experience on Tripadvisor!
