I like everything about this hotel. The rooms are nice and always clean. Many of the rooms are renovated this year. The pool area is nice, and the whole hotelarea is so green and beautiful. But the best thing about it is the staff! I have been coming here for 25 years, and the main reason for that is the staff. So friendly and serviceminded. Love them all! If you need to exchange money, it's a office just outside the reception where 3 very friendly boys help you with that. And if you need a driver, I strongly recommend Sulayman Jallow (Solomon). He is very trustworthy, helpful and nice. And always on time if you make an appointment.
We have just come back from The Gambia, staying in Bakotu hotel for the first 4 nights. It’s a very basic hotel, and the food not that good, only a small choice of soft drinks, most being fizzy. Any white or rose wine was never cold, even after asking them to keep in fridge. The beers were always cold and kept in a fridge, so don’t know why the wine wasn’t. On two occasions we were told our choice of food was missing off the menu which was in the Captains Table restaurant. The rooms are also very dark, but spotlessly clean. The staff were always friendly and smiling. Internet only in lobby entrance Currency exchange next door to hotel, good rates. For bird watching trips go to Malik by the bridge, excellent and a lovely man. Go to monkey forest, it was lovely feeding them, they are very calm and gentle. We were supposed to be going back to Bakotu after a visit to Senegal, but changed to another hotel. We have been to Africa many times, so know what to expect, and have stayed in all levels of accommodation, but felt this hotel is running on the Chris Packham name.…
Just returned from a 10 day trip. This hotel is even better than the pictures! The place is very green, the pool area is nice, everything is clean and the staff is extremely helpful and sweet. Food is good, and there are nice restaurants at the hotel and just across the street and at the beach.
Nice size hotel, all on one level so good if you have mobility issues or pushchairs. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. A nice sized pool and plenty of sun beds. Bar is open most of the time, plenty of tables with sun shades. A couple of places to eat at the hotel and plenty close by too. Small supermarket at the hotel and a couple close by too. Next door is a money exchange, they take cards too so very easy, open until late. Breakfast quite slow and basic but absolutely fine - choice of eggs, yoghurt, really lovely fresh bread, jams, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. The viewing platform here looking across the lagoon is a bird watchers paradise. Always something to see either from thhe platform or in the surrounding trees. MONKEYS - they are a delight to watch and may wake you up by running across your roof but DO NOT DO NOT feed them. It is very tempting but once they start to be fed then they can start to become aggressive towards people and will start begging in the restaurants - this will lead to them being a nuisance and having to be exterminated. They have plenty of food in nature and you will see them close up so no need to feed them - just don't do it!!!!! Rooms are basic but sufficient, comfy double, ceiling fan, shower a bit unpredictable but bear in mind that you are in Africa. Nice outside seating too. Across the road from the lovely beach. Square across the road has some very good restaurants. Short walk to the bridge where you can see the vultures being fed in the morning. From the bridge walk through the fields and by the river to see wildlife. At the golf course a nice man may invite to show you an owl, do go and give him a tip, it is how he makes his living. Bird guides can be hired at the bridge but be warned - once you book with one guide then you are his people so don't go booking another trip with a different guide.…
I travelled with my father the first time to The Gambia. We chose Bakotu Hotel as it is a small and green place, with limited rooms. And I have to stay we definitely recommend this place. Beautiful and clean rooms, a nice pool, good service and amazing stuff. Located just a few meter away from the beach with small shops next to it where u get everything u need. If u want to book tours, wouldn't recommend to book it through an agency.... Better book it through locals.
