Plum Point Lodge on Seneca, formerly known as Rainbow Cove Resort, has a long and proud history as a classic lakefront motel, located on Seneca Lake’s western shore in the literal heart of New York State’s Finger Lakes region. Originally built in phases during the late 1950s and early 1960s, the property was owned and managed by members of the same family for roughly 60 years, and encompassed 24 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant, a pool, a recreational building, and approximately 300 feet of premium lakefront. Over the years, the property became the favorite of a dedicated clientele, many of whom made their annual return to this exceptional lakefront hideaway a long-standing family tradition. The property changed hands in early 2017, and is undergoing a complete renovation and repurposing in order to better serve its customers in the evolution of Finger Lakes tourism and its many and varied attractions. Despite these changes at the Lodge, the new owners are committed to retaining

The picture used for this property suggests a great lodge, but that is the over-priced restaurant. The rooms are in motel-like buildings. We reserved a lake view, king room with a balcony several months in advance. When we checked in, we were assigned a room on the first floor with a patio. We immediately asked for one with a balcony and we’re told there were none and a patio was the same as a balcony. When we saw the room, we realized it was tiny with no closet and only one chair. We asked if we could be moved the next day and we’re told that without moving more than once it was not possible. We were promised another chair the next day. It never came. Since we were supposed to stay five days, we asked if we stayed two nights, could we get a refund for the additional nights. Their cancellation policy says only the first night would be charged. We were told that we could not get a refund but they would check with owner and call us back. No callback. Nothing was ever done to possibly upgrade our room or make us in anyway feel better about our stay. We were also told that although our itinerary said a balcony, that was only a request (not guaranteed)!! Was not a request, it was part of our room description. The place is very far from restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions. Breakfast is not included and the only option is a $19 buffet.

Our rooms floor was sticky and the bathroom floor was dirty we found out after dropping a couple of items. Asked that at least bathroom floor be cleaned while we were gone during the day. Returned to a room that still had a dirty floor and the room had an extremely heavy smell of bleach. Windows don’t open so we had to sit outside our room for several hours with the doors open. Of course all kinds of bugs and flies entered. Restaurant food marginal. Over all the place needs serious maintenance. Mattress was the softest we have ever experienced.

We had a very nice stay at Plum Point. I want to compliment, Taylor, in the front office. We had the power in our room go out one morning (tripped a circuit breaker ). It was early in the morning before housekeeping arrived. She did everything she could to help us but was unable to locate the circuit breaker. So, she went and found someone working in the kitchen who could fix it so I could finish drying my hair. Besides that, the rooms are nicely furnished, I just wish there was a place to hang clothes. In our room, the only place we had was a rack in the bathroom. I am not sure if all the rooms are like that. The hotel is quiet. There is seating on the lake front with benches and chairs so you can enjoy the view. There was coffee available in the morning which was nice because there are not coffee pots in the rooms. Looking forward to our next stay.

We chose the Plum Point Lodge because of the terrific photos on their website, showing a gorgeous view, a pool, a dock, and renovated rooms. The reality was quite different. Unfortunately, this establishment is being severely mismanaged. I feel that we were bait and switched and want to help others not fall into this trap. Upon arrival, our room had such a strong odor of bleach it stung our eyes. When we asked about the scent the woman at the front desk told us that the house keeper had spilled the fluid, but "bleach fumes wouldn't hurt us so we shouldn't worry, and there was nothing she could do anyway." After negotiating she offered to find us a fan to help the fumes dissipate but never returned. No discount or alternative room was offered. During our three day stay the pool was never opened, despite being a busy weekend, the $19/person breakfast buffet ran out of food on both mornings (do not spend the money on this breakfast!), and the room and bedspreads were filthy. As mentioned, we booked in order to enjoy the dock and amenities. Please be aware that there is NO swimming off the dock (which was not listed on their website) so with no pool and no lake access our children were highly disappointed. Also, the restaurant is NOT family friendly at the expensive price point, and the closest restaurants/stores are 15 min away. With a gorgeous location like this it is a shame that this hotel is being mismanaged to this extent.

For the amount of money that is spent to stay at your establishment, I would expect to stay in a clean room. My wife and I were immediately grossed out when we spotted all types of hair on the bed. On top of the covers and underneath. Considering the rest of the room “looked” clean, the bed sheets were either not changed after the previous customers had checked out or the washers and dryers on site are sub par. Nevertheless, we stopped by to see the manager on duty to explain the situation. Shortly after, she stopped by our room and dropped off replacement sheets which also contained some hair. After we changed the sheets ourselves we decided to spend the night. This made me not even mind that the AC sounded like a jet engine taking off every time it kicked on. The following morning we were told we would be contacted by the owner which never happened. We called and left messages several times since then which were not returned, but we also emailed and received no replies there either. Please stay and spend your money elsewhere.

Last year the hotel would have a 5, this year the food was disappointing , front desk usually empty, couldn’t find room service for towels. It has lost its personalized boutique feel.!No more juice and baked goods available in AM, instead a very basic unappealing breakfast buffet. Hopefully the hotel will get its act together because the rooms and property are awesome . We will try again next year

My husband and I don’t travel extensively; however when we do, we try to stay in places that are better than average and that is why I chose the Plum Point Lodge. I guess I should have researched the reviews a little further. I gave the lodge a two because it did have a beautiful view and an awesome dock to sit on. The lodge is otherwise lacking. We stayed in the “suite” and we were very disappointed. The floors were very grimy in places and the upholstery on the furniture was very dirty. The windows were filthy and the ceiling fan quit on our second night. The pool was closed the entire time (for maintenance) and the $19/person brunch was really lacking; it was a buffet and the food was lukewarm. We have had a better selection at free breakfast buffets at hotels. The toilet seat was extremely loose and sliding all over the place; my husband tightened it up. Cleanliness in important and not expensive so I think Plum Point can certainly improve on this. The restaurant, Salpalta is definitely not included in this review. We ate dinner at the restaurant and the food and service was excellent. We love the Finger Lakes and going to wineries but we will not being staying at Plum Point again.

Plum Point Lodge is a charming, updated motel about 20 minutes outside of the Watkins Glen town. The rooms were a decent size, clean & updated. We enjoyed the pool (had it all to ourselves!) and the dock & view of the lake was stunning. We enjoyed each evening on the dock, watching the lake & sunset. The restaurant at the lodge, Sapalta, was also delicious. There are many wineries nearby, if you want to do some tastings. After we left, I had forgotten my keys in the room, and they were kind enough to mail them back to me. Overall we had a nice stay & we will be returning in the future!

Please note that plum point Lodge is withholding the repayment of a deposit from me. And they are not making themselves available to discuss it. I have tried very hard to have a conversation with Jason. I didn't actually go there I had to cancel some plans and I didn't get my deposit back

We loved our stay at the Plum Point Lodge. We stayed in one of the yurts which was very warm and cozy. I loved it! Every evening the staff lit two campfires, one by the lake and the other near the yurts. We enjoyed sitting around the campfire by the lake as we talked and laughed with the other guests. What we found was amazing is that many of the guests have come back here year after year. We will be back!
