Always loved times spent with family and friends at RHR-- Haven't been doing much travel during Covid, but did get to sneak in an escape here a few weeks back. Not only did we feel safe, we had SO much fun-- everyone had huge smiles behind their masks. Not only did safety seem like it was their top priority- they still tried to make things feel as normal as possible. The weekend was packed with activities that made us (for a minute) forget that we've had to stay home for so long. Horse back riding in the woods was a favorite, but going for a walk to see all the animals got lots of laughs too. While I didn't do this-- I did hear they have a ski bunny hill which would be fun for young families to teach their kids. After a day of outdoor activities we also booked a rez for the pool which was easy to reserve and plan-- and so well spaced from others. Breakfast and Dinner were easy to coordinate and the tables spaced out allowed us to really feel we had some space to ourselves. I know times are so tough for the hotel industry-- despite that RHR really showed they valued the family and people there... serving with a smile, making it easy to enjoy the time, and keeping it safe with all sanitation, mask wearing etc. Will be back (hopefully in less covid times) but would love a trip there any time! Thanks for a great getaway!

Hotel's Favorite
What an amazing place to go and get away from the everyday troubles and stresses of life. We had an amazing time and the staff was beyond amazing. Great food and a ton of activities to chose from. Our stay was 4 days and it seems we picked the appropriate amount of time to be able to utilize all of the different amenities of the resort. Will visit again and strongly recommend it to others!

We are big fans of Rocking Horse Ranch (this was our fourth visit)-- BUT, I would NOT recommend going during this pandemic, at least not during winter break or any other busy time. I realize that this is such a tough time for these businesses, but I want visitors who are considering going to really be prepared for what they are walking into before they go. First off, when we called to book, we were told that they are only booking at 50% capacity, so we were NOT expecting the INSANE crowds that we saw when we got there. The parking lot was PACKED and lunch was a ZOO. I don't think they are lying about the 50%, but the problem is that they allow people to stay for as long as they want after they check out, so the lunch crowd is DOUBLE what it should be. Now, let me back up a second and say that in regards to the crowds -- for the most part, people wore their masks, and I appreciated that they had time reservations for the pool and the shows, so the pool never felt crowded and the shows had seating that was nicely spaced. HOWEVER, for all other activities, it was a free for all. There was no crowd restrictions whatsoever for ice skating (and the rink is TINY) and for the ski rentals and lining up for the bunny hill, people were on top of one another. Yes, most people were wearing masks, which is great, but no one was restricting the number of people or enforcing 6-feet apart rules. But, really, the WORST, was in the dining room. Dinner was fine because it was by reservation and tables were nicely spaced and it was table service. But Breakfast and Lunch were complete disasters, especially lunch. They do a BUFFET, which is RIDICULOUS during covid times. Yes, they have servers getting food from the buffet for you, rather than people touching all the utensils, so that's a start. BUT, in order to get food, you still have to get up from your table, walk across the room, stand in line, and walk back to your table, and then if you want a drink, you have to get up again, stand in line again, and walk back to your table again... Now, imagine that scenario with hundreds of people in the room all doing the same thing? Not exactly mitigating contact with other people. So stupid. At one point I did see a manager trying to tell people to wait in line 6 feet apart, but that lasted about a minute. I really don't understand why they wouldn't just do table service. It makes absolutely NO sense from a health and safety standpoint. ALSO, they don't allow you to take food OUT of the dining room to eat elsewhere, which makes no sense. One night at dinner my son wasn't feeling well and so my husband took him back to the room. Their dinners had JUST been served so I asked if we could box them. The waitress had to get the manager because it was "against policy." The manager finally said we could do it, BUT the waitress would have to deliver it to the room. WE couldn't take it back with us. I asked why, and he had no idea. So I talked to ANOTHER manager (Scott) who also really didn't know why. He said that it had something to do with the management not wanting other patrons to see people taking food out of the dining room because they don't want people to think it's "o.k." to do so? Not sure I get it. But just add it to the list of frustrations. BOTTOM LINE: Rocking Horse is great. We always have a great time. BUT if you go during this pandemic -- try to go during an "off time." If you go during a holiday week or a busy time (we went during winter break) be prepared for LOTS of crowds, even if they SAY it's "Only 50%" ADVICE FOR RHR: Institute a reservation system for ALL your activities and shows, not just the pool/riding -- especially during busier times. We were at Woodloch Pines this summer and they have an app where you can easily sign up for activities. It was great and easy and REALLY helped with making sure there weren't ever too many people in one place. And PLEASE do away with the whole buffet thing. It's NOT working, and it's NOT safe for anyone. Also, if there's anything you can do about the paper thin walls and ceilings, that would be great (maybe thicker carpet or something?)-- it literally sounded like we were living below a family of elephants. And this has been an issue every time we've stayed, so it wasn't like it was just that particular family of elephants.

I see that your family has stayed with us several times over the past few years, Shelley and I sincerely thank you. As you can imagine, dealing with the pandemic poses many unique challenges for a business like ours. We put a great deal of effort into creating the protocols enacted for the safety of our guests and staff. Our team has received comprehensive training from a host of experts at Montefiore Health Systems, the New York State Department of Health and CDC guidelines, not to mention all of the cleaning, safety, and sanitization procedures that are practiced every day here at The Ranch. As well, we have installed the top rated Reme Halo Air Purifier system throughout our public spaces including all dining areas. In our dining room, we actually operate at lower than 50% capacity and maintain fastidious sanitizing procedures. The families standing together in the que of your photo are spaced 6 feet apart by floor markers and are wearing masks; the dining tables where families are sitting are spaced at least 6 feet apart. Our Chef's Table layout allows you to choose from an array of offerings, which are then plated by a gloved and masked member of our culinary team. Though sometimes lines are inevitable, we do place a staff member along the line to ensure that families are properly spaced (dining room manager Sergio in photo). Meals are definitely available as take out options for families who would prefer in-room dining. I sincerely apologize that there was a miscommunication during your previous visit. I have already discussed this with our dining room management to ensure this will not happen again. Rocking Horse Ranch Resort Highland Hospitality is paramount! 780675400 Just left the hotel after a wonderful, relaxing three night stay. Service with a smile from the top down is seen throughout the property. Steve Turk recognized our faces and asked us how we were enjoying, always with a smiling face. The staff is always happy to help; always greeting us . We were impressed right away with how service oriented the staff was . Kudos to Liam and Taylor at the pool who found my son’s glasses and brought them to the desk after remembering that he had lost them. For other readers who care about kosher food, chef Paul was more knowledgeable about kosher food laws than we could have imagined. He went above and beyond to provide us with kosher foods , making sure to accommodate the strict Kosher needs of Orthodoxy Jews. Chef Paul was generous in making sure to give us enough food that we could eat. Kudos to Terri and Scott who made sure to provide attentive service with a smile, checking to see if we needed anything else. Thank you to Stella, one of the breakfast servers who recognized my son on our second morning there and remembered his preferences. Attractive property with enough to do in the winter, indoor pool with water slides and a wonderfully relaxing outdoor hot tub. Perfect for the times we are in. There is horseback riding with enough time slots to accommodate everyone and an area with snow tubing and skiing. The staff was constantly watchful for anyone that fell. The room was spacious and comfortable, definitely clean. The maid service did their jobs , providing as much service as requested. In short, thank you Rocking Horse Ranch for a nice vacation with a good amount of outdoor activities. Heartily recommend! Amazing place. Lots of fun. To many activities. Pool, winter pool, unlimited horses, rifle shooting, sky tubing, ice skating, shows, food you na me it they have it. Sharp business model, owner Steve that checking every part on the property and asking guests how they enjoy. Every employee, front desk, dinning room, pool, ski everyone extremely helpful and polite.
