We scored tickets to the Avett Brothers in Cooperstown and finding a last minute place that took dogs was impossible. Herkimer was further than where we wanted to stay but the REVIEWS were So GOOD we decided to go for it. In the end we didn't take our dog but from the beginning the communications and vibe were great. Mike and Brick (the house pup) really make you feel amazingly welcome. The rooms are so comfortable, the breakfast is beyond incredible. Seriously the desire to make you feel special runs through every moment you're there. We will be back just to go there and we'll find something to do in the area but our draw will be the B&B first and foremost.
A friendly owner who has taken great care to keep this historic federalist-style house in very good condition. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms small but quite adequate, the parlor (living room) is decorated in the 1800's style, and the breakfasts served in the old fashion dining room were delicious and filling! Additionally, the owner has taken great care to ventilate and sanitize for Covid, It would have been helpful to have more chairs and a desk in the bedrooms.
Host Mike And Brick were very friendly, Room was beautiful and bed was super comfortable, Breakfast was awesome, Loved It ! would stay again, They offered bike rentals and repairs being they were very close to the Erie Canal bike trail,The back back yard was very comforting view
We really enjoyed our first stay at the Grand Colonial and it definitely won't be our last. Mike was friendly, interesting and gracious host and he made us a a beautiful French toast, with real maple syrup, breakfast before we went on our way to see our family. There were several choices for the breakfast so no one should leave hungry ( I know we didn't.) We had a gift certificate for the Kingsland Room, it was a lovely, comfortable and very spacious room. Right outside our room was a Keurig with an assortment of choices. We highly recommend Mike and his B&B.
The moment we walked in we were greeted by one of the most genuine people I have ever met, Mike, and his perfect dog, Brick! Mike gave us the details of our stay, took our breakfast order, provided suggestions for where to go, what to do, and what to eat in the area (super helpful as we had not been to the area before). Every room of the house was beautifully decorated! The room was clean and comfortable and the bed provided a great night sleep! The breakfast was amazing with a large variety of options (the potatoes were some of the best I have ever had- I am still thinking about them). We cannot wait to stay here on our next trip and would recommend this place to everyone!
The Grand Colonial is a very clean, well kept property with lots of period-appropriate furnishings and thoughtful accoutrements. Mike, the owner, and Brick, his canine companion, are as amiable and helpful as they come and Mike cooks a great breakfast.
We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Colonial Inn!! Mike and his dog Brick were great hosts! Mike really went of his way to make sure things were comfortable and relaxing for us. Our two pups enjoyed it also as there is a huge area out back to enjoy sniffing and stretching their legs! Breakfast is unbelievable so make sure you are ready for some delicious food! We were full most of the day!! Would definitely recommend staying here if your up in that area. I know we would again!
Right away I was greeted by Mike and Brick! And Brick is the cutest dog ever! Mike was very informative and went over every detail that I would ever need to know! The room was super cute and charming and comfortable. Breakfast was fabulous and huge! The little shop was cute and I love the products I bought! The Grand Colonial is the perfect place to stay in Herkimer! I hope t find a reason to return!
This is beautiful old house has been restored to showcase its natural beauty— gleaming hardwood floors and polished woodwork throughout. The oriental rugs and furnishings complement it beautifully. The host and his fabulous dog Brick greet guests on arrival and the host gives a short tutorial on everything from front door locks to safety measures. There is room to park and I felt safe. The bedroom was quiet and comfortable and had its own bath room. The house is immaculate and the breakfast of fresh blueberries, waffles and bacon was delicious. Thanks for this wonderful stay.
This B&B is a beautiful historical home property that is positively charming. Mike, the owner, made our trip to visit family perfect with his hospitality and kindness. We can't wait to stay here in the summer when the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming. Even though the weather was dreary, our stay at Grand Colonial was anything but.
