The VanWinkle Inn is known as a "Sleepy Bed and Breakfast" located in the Great Northern Catskills. It was built in 1830 and has a wonderful history. We pride ourselves in the comfort of our rooms and quality of our wonderful home cooked breakfasts, which are offered during the peak season! From 11/01 through the third week of May breakfast is not available as this is our off season but room rates are adjusted accordingly. Complimentary coffee and tea are offered 24 x7 in the dining room. Guests will find a very nice diner in the center of town, The Tiny Diner, which serves a nice breakfast and the rate reduction in room pricing is an appropriate offset for this cost!

I know I will be put down by owners as they have done so with other unfavorable reviews. I have never written a bad review in my life, but this experience left my daughter and I in shock. there was no one to greet us, odd, but OK. Then we found out no breakfast was served

Well, we never try to put down anyone with our responses but we certainly don't allow people to post lies about our inn and our service. That does at times happen. Related to your post we can only respond to it honestly. We made had to decide this year to either close the inn for the off months or not serve breakfast and lower our rates accordingly. With careful consideration we decided to lower the rates and keep the inn open for travelers that would otherwise find it very difficult to find comfy and logistically favorable lodging if we decided to close. Holly and I felt we have made the right decision in doing this. We lowered the rates by as much as $40 per night per room and noted that on expedia and our own site. By doing so we managed to keep the inn open as a convenience to our guests who we so appreciate, and have some time for a much needed rest for ourselves! Innkeeping is tough work. We need some time off and welcomed our new grandson to this world during your visit! You were indeed charged the lower rates and informed of where to find breakfast within minutes from the inn. We do leave check in information at the late arrival board for all guests so that they have information for accessing the inn and later referencing that information as necessary. Key pads are utilized for guest convenience and security. We also utilize the ring door bell system as another safety feature as well as for convenience. Most guests love it! You are right about it being tacked to a cork board on the porch. It is though a lovely board that is in no way tacky and located where it is to be convenient. You had our phone number which you could have used at any point during your stay with us. Sorry you chose not to utilize it to express any of these concerns. Please give us a call to discuss at your earliest convenience! Thanks for your kind remarks regarding the inn being lovely and beds being comfortable. We do apologize for your feeling we were negligent in greeting you. We must charge it up to being excited grandparents. Thanks for taking the time.

Nice place to stay in the Catskills. It's close to Hudson, Tannersville, and Catskill state park. The room we had was large, the bed soft. The stairs are steep, so don't bring a lot. The breakfast was average. Not many choices. It's close to a few good restaurants like Vince

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. The stairs in the 1800's were indeed steeper than today. Their architectural nuance is part of the historical ambience guests appreciate. If of concern to any guest, we provide two rooms on the main floor. Regarding breakfast, we serve fresh fruit platters, fresh juice, you were served free range eggs and locally baked peasant bread with all the coffee or tea you desired. The bacon you were served is also locally sourced. All our food is prepared by Holly in our kitchen. Being a small family run b &b, the menu is limited to the days offering. We make every effort to accommodate folks when they request special consideration(s). Whilst your needs and desires called for a short stay, many of our guests enjoy longer stays golfing the abundant courses, hiking the many trails available, hunting, fishing, visiting historic sites throughout the nearby area, antiquing, or holding conferences at the inn. We are also a favorite destination wedding location. Once again, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

What a wonderful B&B! I stayed at the VanWinkle Inn and had a wonderful time! Holly and Burt treated me like family and made me feel at home. After a long day out, (the antiquing in the area is wonderful!) I helped myself to tea from the Keurig they keep well stocked in the

We stayed here for a skiing weekend at Windham. The Inn is highly recommended so we gave it a shot. The home has such character. Holly and Bert are the 3rd owners since 1820 and this place is in amazing shape for a 200 year old residence. A warm and inviting communal living area
