Room small. One whole flight of stairs up to the room. When you need ice they ask you bring ice bucket to the bar and carry the bucket back up to your room. No help getting to the room. We will not return to this hotel. We will come back to green port.
American Beech restaurant offers terrific outdoor seating- whether under heated elements or inside your own Greenhouse like pod. Should you prefer you can dine indoors. We chose the pod and it was beautiful at night, and we felt so very COVID safe inside it. Now for the cuisine - amazingly delicious!!! We had a wonderful organic salad with farm fresh greens and a tasty dressing. For our entree we each had Cajun seasoned swordfish with fresh roasted fennel and carrots -so very delicious! This is my new favorite chef!
This review covers our stay as hotel guests as well as our experience at the outdoor lounge. Lounge - My husband and I decided to come here for drinks and appetizers before having dinner somewhere else. 45-60 minutes tops - or so we thought! The lounge is first come first serve in order to find a place to sit. We were lucky and able to sit right away. The place has cool decor with distinct separate areas so you feel socially distanced from others around you. I was all about the vibe, but what about the service? It appeared they had many bus boys/food runners who would bring you your food or more napkins, etc., but there appeared to be ONLY ONE person who was actually taking food and drink orders. We had to personally flag this person down each time we wanted to order drinks, then appetizers, and then the check. And I noticed other parties having to flag this guy down as well! However, in his defense, he DID look very busy, as he appeared to be covering ALL the tables. My husband and I acknowledged that he looked to be covering a lot of tables and we understood that he was busy. After we paid our check the waiter did bring us two complimentary glasses of prosecco, which was very nice. This whole experience took a total of 2 hours, which is a little much for just pre-dinner drinks and apps. Hotel - The decor is very trendy and chic, reminded me of the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed and sheets were very comfortable and the towels were lush and plentiful. My favorite part of our stay was the complimentary breakfast picnic basket that was delivered to our door each morning at 9am. It had yogurt, granola, fruit, 2 fresh plain bagels and OJ. Breakfast in bed was such as nice touch. Now the not so pretty - our room had some serious plumbing issues. Both the shower and bathtub did not drain completely, so you were left standing in your own dirty shower water. Even after I turned the shower off, the water drained very slowly and there continued to be a layer of water that never went down. It gets worse - at approximately 11:30pm, I flushed the toilet after using the bathroom. The toilet, like the rest of the decor, is very chic - just a toilet sticking out of the wall with 2 buttons on the wall above to flush. When I flushed the toilet, the button must have gotten stuck in wall and the toilet continued to flush and flush and flush. Since this was not a regular toilet with a tank, we did not know how to fix it. We attempted to call the "emergency phone number" that was provided to us at check in and no one answered. After calling three times, we left a message, and no one returned our call. So the toilet flushed ALL DAMN NIGHT! We tried to sleep by thinking of it as a trickling water feature, though I was too angry to sleep as I just kept thinking about the $500+ per night we were spending to stay there. In the morning, when someone finally returned to the front desk, I notified her of the issue in our room. The toilet was fixed by the end of the day; however, the drainage was still an issue. When I returned from my trip I personally emailed stay@americanbeech to remind them of the plumbing issues in our room, so hopefully it could get fixed for the next guests. I am still waiting to hear back...…
We stayed at American beech for a weekend getaway from the City, and absolutely looooooved this place. The hotel is located right in town, but is secluded as the property has its own square with an outdoor fire place, restaurants, cute shops and boutiques - great place to sip a glass of wine at the end of the day. The decor of our room was modern and sophisticated, yet warm and inviting. The beds were extremely comfortable, with soft sheets and plush towels. This is a true gem, and my family can’t wait to return in the summer.
We booked a room and showed up at 9PM to check in, and... the hotel was closed. No staff, lobby door locked. All three phone numbers went un-answered. Eventually, after a few laughs with the staff of the pizza restaurant downstairs, they managed to track down a random employee for us who attempted to check us in. Turns out he worked in the kitchen and had never done that before. Kudos to him for trying! Near an hour after arriving, another employee showed up finally and checked us into a room half the size of the one we paid for. A consolation prize, I suppose? Of course, once we realized that, all the employees had left the “hotel” again and the phone numbers went unanswered. After another hour of wandering around the empty property knocking on doors (and with a few more laughs with a couple of other hotel guests experiencing their own issues and wandering around with us), a restaurant employee convinced an actual hotel staff member (incredible!) to come to the hotel and help us get a refund and get out of there. At that point it felt too scammy and weird to stay the night. They told us the hotel was fully booked... What hotel on earth sends the *entire* staff home with a dozen full rooms of guests? Or they were lying about their occupancy. Who knows. Either way - at best, this is an amateur airbnb operation (and yes, they cross-list their rooms on airbnb). The room was clean, though. So at least there’s that?…
