The Sheldon Mansion, an Historic Inn, is an exceptional Bed & Breakfast, which has been lovingly restored to the original splendor of the gilded age of over a century ago. It was built in 1906 by slate baron Fredrick Sheldon on a beautiful 10-acre estate. Even then, people were pleasantly surprised by the inviting feel of such an impressive 34-room mansion. This wonderful Inn opened shortly after current owners Stephen and Marianne Lynch exchanged wedding vows on the Veranda and made it their residence. Since then it has provided a beautiful home away from home for hundreds of satisfied guests who have awakened to a magnificent breakfast. The Sheldon Mansion provides an exclusive sanctuary with only five guest rooms. Every convenience is provided including free WiFi. Each room is beautifully appointed and has a private full bath, blending historic charm with modern comforts. All of the rooms are subtly themed after area locations with antiques, artwork, books and memorabilia. The most impressive accommodation is the Granville Suite with a private sitting room. The Eagle Bridge provides a Grandma Moses theme. The Champlain celebrates the lakes region. The Saratoga has a collection of horse racing and casino heritage. The Arlington presents a Norman Rockwell theme. Breakfast is a special event and is served in the second floor solarium overlooking the village with lovely picturesque views of the mountains. Guests can also relax in Mrs. Sheldon's comfortable Sitting Room, mingle in the graceful Formal Parlor, or unwind on the sweeping Veranda. Mr. Sheldon's English Study serves as either a classic gentlemen's retreat or as a highly functional office for business travelers. The Formal Dining Room can serve as the setting for elegant catered events or special business meetings. The Inn and its grounds are available for special occasions or smaller indoor functions such as parties and business conferences. Innkeepers Stephen and Marianne provide personal touches and enjoy meeting the variety of guests and sharing their experiences. Many have traveled from around the country and even around the world and have marveled at this area's history and natural beauty. The Sheldon Mansion is a unique gem. It has been saved and restored to once again serve the area in the elegant manner for which it was originally designed. Rooms are surprisingly affordable and include a full breakfast. Stephen and Marianne, our hosts, were friendly, gracious, and attentive for our single night there. Stephen related the incredible history of the place, and their efforts to resurrect the property over the last twenty years. Our room was spacious and well appointed with either antiques or Victorian reproductions that made us feel like we went back in time to a different era. Granville is an up-and-coming small town situated in an area with remarkable history all around. At the suggestion of our hosts we did takeout from Tommy's Restaurant and took our meals back the huge front porch of the Mansion to enjoy them with a view out over the town. We will go back.

Wonderful stop-over on the way home from VT. We didn’t know the history of the place but Stephen gave us the full backstory over breakfast. It’s truly a labor-of-love restoration project and remarkable place to stay, with charmingly appointed rooms, comfortable beds, and delicious breakfast. Hope to stay here again.

Our second time in the Saratoga Room. It's a great place to stay when visiting the area. Stephen and Maryanne are welcoming hosts. All of the rooms have private bathrooms and the space is quiet and comfortable. We were able to welcome our family, also visiting the area, to stop by to visit us on the mansion's spacious front porch, which was a much appreciated open space to meet during the pandemic. The Delaware and Hudson trail head is nearby and an easy walk into the village. Breakfasts are delicious and ready at a time of your choice. Lovely visit!

The building was such a gem to not only see but to stay in. The room was comfy and homey and tasteful. We liked having our own bathroom. Plus, with there being only 5 rooms available you don't have to worry about it being crowded. The best part was Stephen and Marianne. They are so welcoming and they make you feel right at home. Also, they make the best breakfasts! We look forward to returning!

The Sheldon Mansion is our "go to" lodging when visiting family in the area. Love the owners, Marianne and Stephen! They always make you feel so welcome and comfortable in their home! They share the mansions history and have great recommendations for dining in the area. Plus they make the best homemade breakfasts!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Shelden Mansion over an extended period of time for work. From the 1st phone call to my last day staying at this beautiful charming B&B Marianne and Stephen made me feel like family and that I was at home. They were both very accomaditioing and readily available for all my needs. The room was exceptional with the most comfortable bed and linens that make you never want to leave. I enjoyed my private bathroom which every guest room has. The view of the mountains starts and ends your day so peacefully. .The overall decor, hospitality, and history of the Shelden Mansion is like no other. I highly recommend this hidden gem as you will not be disappointed. I look forward to visiting the Shelden Mansion next time I am in the area. Untill then the memories and hospitality of Marianne and Stephen will always be dear to me. Looking forward to my next vist .

We stayed at the Sheldon Mansion to use the bike trail that nearly borders the property. The owners share their beautifully restored home in a professional but very personal way. We felt as if we had stepped back in time and were treated to a full tour, good advice on where to eat, a delicious breakfast, endless cups of hot tea and the feeling that we never wanted to leave! We were upgraded to the largest room in the house and the bed was very firm but it also had a little sitting room with two twin beds and a desk where my husband could do a little work while we were staying. There is also a full sized fridge in the breakfast room to store personal items and a microwave for guests' use. We were able to have a meal and a glass of wine brought from home during our stay. The owners' dogs bark quite a bit but are friendly. The morning of our departure was happily delayed by an impromptu "concert" by a fellow guest who beautifully played many classic songs for us in the study. Overall we loved our stay!

Stephen & Marianna were very gracious hosts. The Sheldon Mansion is a wonderful look back in history. It has been restored by Stephen and Marianne as well. They did a great job. The Mansion was clean and inviting. Stephen shared some of the Mansion's history and the tie-in to the local slate industry. The room was very clean and welcoming as well. The Mansion is located a short drive to downtown Granville. There are some local restaurants and shops lining the main street. We had a great time at the Slate Town Brewing Company as well. I would definitely return to the Sheldon Mansion if I am in the area again. Thank you, Jeff & Nancy
