Fantastic place. We stayed in one of the motel-style rooms (they also have BnB-style rooms). It was very comfortable, spacious, and simply but nicely decorated. We really appreciated the obvious care and attention given to the whole place – comfortable bed, plenty of pillows, nice linens and towels, nicely painted room, spotlessly clean and well-maintained bathroom, great pool and pool area - extra towels available and plenty of lounge chairs. There's a picnic area with a grill, and chairs outside all of the rooms. The staff was genuinely friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to go back.
We visit this area frequently--we own some land about 10 miles away--and every time we need somewhere to stay overnight or have extra friends or family visiting, if the Colonial has room, this is the spot. There are other accommodations as close or closer, but we prefer the old-fashioned feel of this wonderful family-owned motel. There are rooms either inside the main building, or you can take a drive-up motel style room. It's NOT fancy, but it's comfortable, serviceable, clean, and friendly. I stayed in a lot of motels traveling with my family over all the years of my life, and I've experienced lots of yuck places searching for something affordable. The Colonial is a gem, and we love it.
I called last minute and at 10:30 pm to book a room. The gentleman on the phone was patient and extremely helpful to try and accommodate my family and I. The room was spotless. We witnessed a woman in the lobby vacuuming and cleaning and answering our questions and helping us with a smile. We couldn't have been happier. We called to book another room two days later and the other gentlemen went out of his way to ensure that the room available would be what we needed again to accommodate my sister, her husband and two toddler nephews from Florida. We sincerely thank you all there at the Colonial Inn. We will undoubtedly return and recommend this family owned motel to others.
We stayed here with family and friends for our son’s wedding and it was a bad experience. I suggest booking an Airbnb as this and other motels in the Catskills are old, dingy and very dated feeling like 1950’s. The lighting at the Colonial Motel is very poor and there’s a lock of electrical outlets. The service is poor with no hospitality. We arrived to get ready for the rehearsal dinner with the room not properly stocked to freshen up. All the guests were arriving that afternoon and the attendant decided to take a break to tend to change his son’s diaper. Guests had driven 6+ hours and some had no one to check them in so they could get ready for the rehearsal dinner. Outrageous for a place that caters to wedding guests. The next morning we were taking our guests out to breakfast and went to the cafe highly recommended by the motel. The cafe was closed so we proceeded to the 2nd place recommended and it was for sale. The Colonial can’t be counted on for information, service or even an adequate place to stay. We relayed these issues to the owner who got defensive stating “we are just a small place and can’t do everything.” Seeing this attitude gave me no confidence the concerns would be addressed for future guests. So I write this review to advise others.…
Pros: Excellent location close to scenic NY23, NY23A, NY30. Free on-site parking, large swimming pool, if you need it. Very friendly reception desk. Cons: Very dated room and especially bathroom. No towel hooks. Everything is so shabby and depressing. OK for one night, but hard to stay there longer. We stayed in the main building and carried our bags upstairs; not a problem for us but those with limited mobility might face problems.
My extended family and I took over several rooms at the Colonial while we were in town for a family reunion. It’s quant and comfortable in the most wonderful ways: Hosts are personable and welcoming, there are plenty of tables and chairs outside so you can make yourself at home, and rooms are equipped with refrigerators, Keurigs, table/chairs, etc. Our room was impeccably clean with just-replaced carpet and new bedding. The kids loved swimming in the pool. The place is charmingly vintage (I loved the little bottle opener on the wall!) but completely updated and very, very clean. Our stay here will be as much a part of our memories from that weekend as the reunion was.
My family of four grown sons and their families, had the most wonderful time at the colonial motel. The rooms were great ! Nicely decorated and very clean. The pool was great ! Grand Gorge is a small town. It has that small town charm, near mountains, streams, and a trail converted from a long ago rail road If you’re coming to the country, for relaxation and fresh air, this is the place to stay! The staff is so friendly, and accommodating. The pool was lovely, although the weather was a bit cold and rainy. The kids enjoyed it and had a wonderful time anyway ! Next to the motel is a nice pizza place where you can have pizza or pasta, and they have Arcade games! It keeps the kids busy while the adults can sit and have a nice little chat It was very clean and comfortable place! A great place! I highly recommend it!…

We booked two rooms for two nights in August 2020. The (family) staff at the Colonial Motel were prompt in responding to my emails, especially concerning that we would not be checking in till 9 PM or later. The room was simply decorated and clean. We had stayed here several years ago for a family "do", and this was the reason for staying here again. We would not hesitate to stay here at any time of year. Motels are hard to come by in this particular area of the Catskills, so book early if this is where you need to be! And, although we did not have time, the pool here is very nice.
What a great place. The owners and staff are absolutely perfect. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The property is beautiful and well maintained. They have a beautiful pool with many lounge chairs, a fire pit and BBQ. The location is perfect with many things in the area to do. This was our 6th visit there and have never had a problem. Recommend 10/10.
