My family and I (group of 8) had an amazing trip here. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. Our guide Kevin was fantastic and made our game drives fun and educational. The food was delicious. Waking up to the sunrise, the views where breathtaking. The tents where very comfortable and we slept warm and peacefully. The hide was a great opportunity to sit and watch a herd of elephants drinking up close, while sipping on a glass of wine. There is an abundance of elephants in the park, bird watching is amazing and we where lucky enough to come across a pride of lions. Watching the reflections of herds of animals drink at watering holes, during our sundowner drives, was a great opportunity for beautiful photographs. All in all it was an incredible time and I wish I could have stayed longer.

Our UK travel agent, Audley Travel, had arranged our trip to Zimbabwe recommending The Hide as the last stay of the trip. This had more investment than other places we stayed which meant some better facilities such as newer vehicles, a more extensive central area and more management around. The tents were similar to others and the housekeeping kept them clean and tidy. There were more wildlife around the site with the chance of meeting the local elephant and an impala or baboons on the way to and from tents and the requirement for an armed guide to escort guests at night. The large lake out front was attractive to the wildlife morning and evening and there’s a hide close to the favourite elephant drinking point. There’s a small swimming pool we used to the amusement of the locals but daytime temperatures in the mid to upper twenties aren’t to be missed. But the main activity is the game drives morning, afternoon, evening and night as required. Our guide Nkosi was particularly well-informed and knowledgeable about the area and tapped into the local network to find what was required. Even an off-the-cuff idea wasn’t forgotten and produced results a couple of drives later. My lady wanted to see a Secretary Bird and after a bit of searching he produced one that caught and ate a small snake in front of us. Reports of lions involved a longish drive to another area but there was a pride on a hill including a maned male. Nkosi got us close and then when the male moved he circled round and got us into position to see the animal walk towards us over a rise – and then slump down right beside us and go to sleep! The highlight of the visit for Nkosi was discovering a Brown Hyena that he hadn’t seen in the area ever before. That really pleased him. We had a night in the Dove’s Nest but the cold nights – this is the last week of May - killed the idea of sitting on the deck in the moonlight watching animals. Woken early by the baboon calls we watched the plain come to life while well-wrapped in blankets. A herd of wildebeest, nine giraffes in a decorous line plus zebra and a jackal. But we were glad to get back for a hot breakfast. Food and drinks came regularly and often and by this time we realised that three meals a day and snacks plus sitting in a vehicle much of the time wasn’t doing the waistline much good but enquiries about a walking safari weren’t successful. And then it was time to go and now, on a drizzly Sunday morning in UK, it all seems a long way away.

Is there a better than 5 out of 5? A beautiful and remote location right in the heart of a national park. With the help of expert guides Innocent and Mark, we came within yards of elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, hippos, eland and more. Remote but not simple - great food and wine. Stylish accommodation with mains electricity and and outdoor bath! Even occasional WiFi

We had an exceptional stay at the private Hide. The holiday was a family reunion after being away from each-other for just under three years and we wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. The Hide staff were incredibly helpful and the food was delicious. Special shout out to our guide John who was top class, both informative and fun - he new every bird, bush and did his very best to ensure we say as many of the big 5 as possible. Thank you so much to the team at the Hide - we would love to do it all again but this time for longer.

Over 22 years of Safari Lodge visits across Africa and volunteer Rhino monitors on South Africa we stayed 3 nights at The hide with family and could not have been looked after better . Excellent guide in Innocent who really was so interesting and knowledgeable. My daughter in law as a Pescatarian was well catered for , my son who has a huge appetite also happy . Rooms delightful- especially bathing under the sun or stars . Doves nest which offer a night of seclusion under the star was a high point . Lions, Hyena , Elephants around all night . Staff were friendly, attentive efficient- nothing was too much trouble .

The staff were all great amenable and very helpful. The food was very good though there was no choice. There is Wi-Fi but it works sporadically. The gift shop had very little product and what there was was not very appealing. However we were mostly disappointed by the rooms. These are prepared for summer, but as it got very cold, we were freezing in our rooms. The hot water was difficult to get right and the bathrooms were old. In my opinion, it could use with a refurbishment all around.

Amazing visit with 12 v close friends. Game viewing was superb as were the Rangers, staff, food and drink. Incredible experience to view elephants at night up close via the tunnel to the Hide viewing area. Magnificent venue to see such a range of wildlife in their natural habitats.

The tent was perfect. No mosquito net but not a small bug in the tent. Very clean and everything you needed was there. Food was good. Lunch & breakfast was at your own table but dinner is at a great table together but if you wanted you could dine alone. The actual hide is great and we saw from the lodge zebra, wild dogs, warthogs, elephants, sable, bush buck. It was the beginning of november and because of some rain less animals. People were very nice but maybe because there were more guests not as warm as the staff in other camps we had been to. Only downside was that the afternoon drive started at 16:30 hours. The latest of all the camps we have ever been too. After complaining there was a little more possible but if you want flexibility try Camp Hwange where we also stayed. Having said that, the Hwange park is so big that the landscape is very diverse so it is worth staying in more than one camp.

The location of this lodge is amazing. There are so many different eco systems within this reserve. The Tree variety is amazing with the painted dog tree being a first for us. Once you have got over the diversity of habitats the animals do not disappoint. A one day old elephant with it umbilical cored still in tact was absolutely heart stopping. A pride of 13 lions with cubs, Sable, Leopard and many more formed part of an amazing 4 days. The lodge is well appointed and has everything you could wish for after a days game viewing. The waterhole is a magnet for elephants and it is 100 meters away from the lodge!!! The staff are outstanding, the lodge manager Mannie is a joy to deal with, quiet spoken but knows her stuff, she is always at hand to help without being intrusive. The Game Guide Theo is extremely knowledgable and his easy manner come thru in his passion for all that is the bush and its inhabitants. I must not forget to mention the food it is amazing for a bush lodge. We need to go back so Mannni can get her revenge at Tsoro!!!!

We stayed at The Hide for 3 night in October 2021. Mani, Kate and the rest of the team made our stay amazing by the exceptional welcoming feel and going over and beyond for all our needs. Food was fantastic and was tailored specifically for us. Rooms were regularly cleaned and were in top notch condition. Our guide Nkosi an amazing guide with vast knowledge of the park and it’s animals, also showed us close encounters with lots of game. Will definitely not think twice when an opportunity presents itself to return. Fantastic Place, and because of the amazing management in every regard probably the best in Zimbabwe.
