This is a small, rustic camp set right in the middle of the wildlife. Tents are extremely comfortable, made more so by the hot water bottles in the beds at night. We were worried it might be too rustic -- bucket showers? -- but couldn't have been more comfortable. Our camp manager/hostess made sure we have everything we needed for a great stay, and all the staff were incredible. I couldn't believe the food they were able to prepare with a really basic kitchen. Meals are eaten at a large table where guests can exchange stories about their adventures, and the conversations continued outside around the fireplace. We enjoyed getting to know our guides and fellow travelers over drinks. The guides were outstanding for both driving and walking adventures. We even tracked some lions one day (and found them!). In addition to being extremely knowledgeable, our guide found us incredible views each evening for our sundowners. We stayed at a few different camps during our trip and this one stood out. Thank you for such a memorable experience!

The camp is small and in the middle of the bush sharing the environment with the wildlife. The first night we had elephants around the tent, the next night we had lions close to camp roaring. All very exciting and exactly what we’d hoped for. The tents are very comfortable and the beds are great. The 3-minute bucket showers are part of the adventure and actually not that much of a challenge. Food is excellent and eaten in a communal manner where stories of the day’s sightings can be swapped over some great wine. A simple breakfast around the fire watching the sun come up over the valley is simply unforgettable. At night the milky way is clearly visible, we have honestly never seen such a beautiful night sky. The game is excellent and there is rich birdlife. The staff are great, extremely friendly and knowledgeable, passionate about the environment and the animals. Special thanks to Peter not only for sharing his knowledge and delivering some excellent drives but also for being great company and being so inclusive with the girls. We really did feel like we were saying goodbye to an old friend when we left. Thanks also to Anna and Spike (and Jane!) for their stories and warm welcome. If you want an authentic bush camp experience to take a break from modern life with great people, great game, great countryside, without a crowded feel then this is for you. Be prepared for a long transfer to reach camp and make sure you have at least 2 full days to make the most of the experience.

The camp experience was unforgettable - lions and elephants outside our tent at night - we could hear them, Spike was a knowledgeable and skilled guide - we saw lots of animals. Food was excellent especially considering everything was cooked on an outside fire. All staff were friendly and accommodating, This is a must not miss experience.

Walking with an elite guide close up to big game is to say the least exciting. Our stay at the Hwange Bush Camp started at the main camp, which is fresh-looking and beautifully located overlooking a wide grass plain; it is very relaxing to sit outside your tent and just enjoy the view. One afternoon we walked across the plain, then through an area with big beautiful rain trees, acacias and a lot of birds. We were there in the end of the green season by choice because we wanted to see lush African landscapes and we really enjoyed it. And we were fully aware that the green season also could mean it could be a challenge sometimes to find the wildlife as it is more spread out then and a bit harder to spot through thick green bush. Therefore we had chosen Zimbabwe, as we had heard they have exceptionally good guides who are skillful in tracking big game and coming close to it by foot. But how to find these guides? The answer for us was to ask the British company Expert Africa, as several times before. Their recommendation to also go fly camping with the team from Hwange Bush Camp turned out to be a brilliant and exciting experience which was just amazing. We were out two nights - in a remote, rocky and hilly area with beautiful mopane forests and old dam with hippos and crocs. Together with us were the ZimPro guide Spike Williamson who has encyclopaedic knowledge, the n'debele tracker Felix, who is super skilled, the young assistant guide and rising star Peter (in training to become ZimPro) and last but not least the bush kitchen team who cooked very well! We had a really good time in the bush. And a lot of fun. The most exciting moments were an early morning when we tracked lions. First we found some tracks in the sand, then we continued in the direction of a hyenas barking and further ahead in the bush we followed the behavior of some vultures. All these signs led us gradually to a pride of lions, which we could view while we crouched at a height close by. Some female lions were just finishing a feast on a pray behind a bush at a place where the male could not see them. But when he saw some vultures landing and walking towards what was now probably just a carcass, he realized that he had missed something and ran in full speed towards it, but doubtless too late. We then sneaked away and walked back. And the lions had not seen us come nor go. An hour later we had lunch close to 10-15 elephants, but that is another story from our two days of magnificent fly camping. We then had a last night at the main camp again together with the whole Hwange Bush Camp Team which is very service minded, nice and attentive. And easy going! We also had a great time with other warm-hearted guests.

2 nights at Hwange bush camp was an absolute treat for myself and my brother - we only wish we could have stayed longer! Having lived in Zimbawe for some time, I wanted to stay somewhere where my brother could experience the beauty of Hwange and have a fighting chance of seeing some wildlife for his first visit to the region. I picked Hwange bush camp after seeing reviews of the quality of their guiding and focus on wildlife and nature - our trip did not disappoint. We spent hours tracking and viewing animals, from a whole pride of lions and cubs, coming a hairsbreadth from a young spotted hyena, elephants and fascinating details on local bird life and plants. The breadth of Dave's knowledge enriched the trip and he went to great lengths to ensure we spent as long as possible out in the bush. The wonderful camp team re-arranged meal times and packed lunches for us so that we could get the very best out of our brief stay - the camp itself felt like the lap of luxury, but better as we had a sky full of stars over our heads and a camp fire too! A fantastic experience with the right priorities and can't thank the team enough for taking such good care of us. We highly recommend this camp.
