My husband and I are staying here now and I have to say, I am overwhelmed with the high quality of service we have received here as well as the comfort, beauty and enchantment that comes with our entire tent. I have read some past reviews and I’m truly perplexed because this has been nothing short of magical for me and my husband. Everything is spotless, no bugs at all in our tent, the ‘bathroom’ is so comfortable and it’s nice that it is in it’s own tent—we have stayed at the Under Canvas campgrounds where the bathroom is in the main tent and I much prefer this kind of privacy. The moment we checked in we were greeted and escorted to our tent via golf cart. We went out to dinner in Hudson at a fantastic restaurant that was recommended from the staff— Helsinki. Go there! When we returned, we noticed turn down service and a box of fresh baked cookies in a box on our night stand. The little touches really impress me. I told my husband I want to come back here every year for our anniversary and make it a tradition. 5 stars!

My husband and I stayed here on opening weekend 2019 (April 19-21). The site is about a 2.5 hour drive from NYC, and a ~10 minute drive from Hudson, NY. We absolutely loved this experience, and felt it was the perfect 'getaway' from the city.

A few highlights:
- Our tent was so romantic and cozy. There was a CRAZY windy/thunder/rain storm on Friday night but we were dry and warm the entire night.
- My husband loved making a fire in the stove in our tent; and it warmed up the tent so much within minutes.
- We loved the BBQ box dinner; we cooked two steaks. Even though the wind took away half our veggies, the chef gave us more (which was really sweet).

One of my recommendations is that you should have a plan for what you want to do, since there aren't pre-set activities. Our recommendations:
- The town of Hudson is adorable and worth seeing; there are 50+ antique stores and not enough restaurants, though, so you should make any meal plans ahead of time and make reservations. We went to Wm Farmer & Sons and highly recommend it, although it is NYC prices.
- A great nearby hike is High Falls Conservation Area. It is 8 min drive from the camping site, and about a 20 minute hike from the parking lot to the viewing area of the falls. You're not supposed to hike to the bottom of the falls, but we did it anyways and it was so fun & an adventure.
- A great far away hike is Kaaterskill Falls. These are an hour drive away, but are the highest waterfalls in NY State (even more Niagra) and totally worth seeing. There are tons of hiking trails around here, although its very popular and there are a ton of other hikers with you.

My only other feedback to the company is that the specific field they chose for the tents is not very picturesque. The surrounding areas are quite beautiful, but the plot of land they've chosen and the way they've arranged the tents are a head-scratcher.

I want to start by saying that 1) I'm not a camper, and 2) I'm not rich. But I wanted to provide a unique experience for my husband's 50th birthday so I booked a surprise 2-night stay at the Hudson Valley location despite the huge price tag. My husband said it was the best birthday of his life. The location is amazing. Beautiful. Private. Tents were gorgeous. Bed was comfortable. The attention to detail was incredible! Food was fresh and delicious. Night sky amazing! There were only 5 tents on the property, so the staff gave very personalized attention to their guests. In facts, the staff was the absolute highlight of the trip. My husband said he doesn't think he'll ever be able to stay any place else!

Now as a non-camper, I'll give all of the non-campers the reality check about the room.

1) There will be bugs. There's nothing you can do about it. Check your luxurious sheets before you get into bed. I hate bugs, and I was fine. But there will be bugs.

2) The shower is just ok. I liked the uniqueness that it was in a tee-pee, but it was very "open-air." Again, there will be bugs. And the bottom of the tee pee is completely open so it will be very cold if its cold out. Sure its glorified camping, but at $600 a night, I wish the water pressure was a little higher, and the temps a little hotter. A privacy partition around the shower head would be nice too. I would bring flip flops next time, too. Almost stepped on a huge spider in there.

3) Our bed had an odor. Not sure if it was the laundering material, or if it was the wood of the bed absorbing moisture from the air, but there was an odd odor that we couldn't put our finger on.

4) Weather will play a big role with your experience. We had the perfect weather for us. Chilly one night. And super windy the next. The wind was great! Plan your trip according to the weather you like.

5) You're in a tent. Noise will travel. Hopefully you get respectful neighbors.

With all of that being said, we loved the trip and highly recommend the unique experience! Like I said, my husband said he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to stay any place else.

According to Wikipedia, “Glamping is a portmanteau of glamour and camping and describes a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with "traditional" camping.”

My definition of glamping at Collective Hudson Valley at Liberty Farms: a glamourous disaster. The distinctive style of camping and resort-style services were NOT part of my experience. You have delivered the look but fell so short on the execution.

Peter Mack, as founder and CEO of this retreat, you may want to return to Cornell because the service and experience I received from Collective Hudson Valley prove to me that you missed a few hotel management and hospitality classes on the Hill. It would also behoove you to learn a bit more about camping in general.

You presented me with a beautifully decorated room and some lovely amenities, none of which I was able to enjoy. I call it the nightmare at Liberty Farms which cost me $500 a night. That price is comparable to that of five-star luxury resorts. Thus, I would expect similar service and quality.

Let’s begin with the placement your tents. In your video on Collective Hudson Valley, all tents showcased were on high ground.” You should have stopped there. Constructing tents on low ground facing a high hill contradicts rules of safe, pleasant camping. In addition, it precludes a pleasing view from the tent. In addition, I was informed that the tent was situated near swampy water that ran not too far behind the tent. Camping protocol dictates that tents are to be placed 200 feet from running water and never on low ground. When torrential rains began during my stay, water was rushing down under my tent.

Now let us discuss the tent itself. I should have gone to REI and purchased a lovely tent for $150 and then placed it inside your tent where I would have stayed dry and free from insects, bees and spiders. Also, the floor would have remained dry unlike the wood floor that absorbed water two feet from my bed. I could see the ground and muck though the wood slats under my bed, where I am sure many wonderful critters live (many of whom came to visit). There was grass growing though my floor.

The lovely wood beam running through my tent was another convenient way to let in my fellow bedmates, which consisted of at least forty or more stink bugs flying and crawling on those beautiful 1500 thread count Duvet covers. They were accompanied by moths, spiders, and little furry critters. The tent was open to the ground on both sides of the room but that does not even matter, because the whole floor was open to the bare earth throughout the foundation area. In addition, it was not a pleasant sight to see mold growing on the inside wall of the tent.

Upon my arrival I saw housekeeping leaving in their golf cart. They missed the dust and cobwebs on the lamps and furniture, another clue you need to hire experienced and professional services who know what they are doing.

The wonderful Egyptian cotton bath towels were luxurious and pretty to view. After their first use, they remained uncomfortably damp. Subsequently, they were rendered useless because drying was not an option. The room was extremely damp, wet, cold, and uncomfortable to a disturbing degree. I spent $1700 on three sleepless and very uncomfortable nights. To make things worse, this was a birthday getaway for my daughter. The electric fireplace that you offer was far from efficient and did absolutely nothing to keep the room warm or dry. The unit was too small for the area and having the inside of the tent exposed to the outside elements made futile any effect the stove may have had. On your website, you seem to offer wood burning stoves, which would create much more heat and thus be much more efficient than a small electric fireplace in a room that size. All of which must be preceded by a solid floor and foundation.

The lovely bathroom was an amenity I truly appreciated. However, was it pleasant to use? Absolutely not. Upon arrival, we noticed that large puddles of water formed from condensation that settled on top of the vanity. It was impossible to place anything on the countertop without it getting soaking wet. The towels were so damp they would not soak up any water. I brought a cosmetics bag with me; unfortunately, a small bottle of shampoo leaked a bit. The next morning, only hours after arriving, I opened the cosmetic bag and it looked like a science experiment. The mildew was so bad I had to throw everything out. The dampness was just overwhelming. I do have to compliment you on the rain shower and the hot water. They were wonderful amenities and greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, taking a hot shower was the only time during my three-night stay at which I was comfortable in the tent.

Let’s talk about the hospitality and service. Upon arrival we met with Jaime, the assistant general manager. She was very pleasant and seemed knowledgeable. I thought this was going to be a wonderful experience and I was looking forward to meeting the rest of the staff. I was wrong. We never saw Jaime again during our three day stay, even though, her online bio claims she “loves watching the sunset over the mountains with guests and fellow team members.”

Premium prices should deliver premium service from all the staff. And there should be more than two people on grounds and they should be on the grounds more than just a few hours each day. There were many times at which we searched for staff and they were nowhere to be found. We were given a number to text in case we needed anything. Many times, our texts simply went unanswered and whatever responses we did receive usually were hours later. Having one person on staff after 11pm is also unacceptable and did not put us at ease. In addition, the free Wi-Fi you provide was terrible. One evening, I could not connect at all.

After viewing your website and speaking to Jamie upon check-in, we expected breakfast to consist of a lovely assortment of fruits, yogurts, granola, pastries and the chef’s specialties for the day, either pancakes or waffles with options for eggs and breakfast meats. However, we arrived at breakfast to find one staff member who seemed inexperienced and unknowledgeable and no such spread. To make matters worse, we were told the chef left for two days and thus there was no hot breakfast available. I would expect another chef would be notified ahead and step in to take his place. That was not the case. There was nothing but carbohydrates available in bread and pastry form. No yogurt parfaits, no eggs, no berries, no granola, not even decaf coffee, which I had to ask to be made. Upon asking for some simple eggs, we were met on both mornings with a somewhat unpleasant or reluctant response. The first morning, we subsequently received a very small slice of a vegetable frittata that was frozen and still cool upon serving. On the second morning, breakfast was served in the main tent. It had rained heavily throughout the night making everything damp and wet. The same assortment of breads and pastries were offered, which I am sure were leftover from the day before. Keeping breads under a plastic lid in a damp room for hours creates a lovely breeding ground for mildew. Not realizing what she was tasting, my daughter asked what the odd, repulsive flavor in her multigrain croissant was. I took a bite and realized it was mold. Both my daughter and I had gastrointestinal issues for two days after leaving your facility. We commiserated with fellow campers over breakfast. They also expressed their dissatisfaction with the camp and their first night of sleep.

I understand the concept of camping and enjoying the wilderness and all that it offers. Roughing it in the great outdoors can be a wonderfully rewarding experience. However, when I pay $500 a night, I do not expect to rough it too much. I have viewed other reviews, one stating that a gentleman paid $750 per night! It seems that you may have lowered the price. For that experience I wouldn’t do it again if it was free. At the very least, I expect to enjoy a dry, mostly bug free, and warm accommodation without eating moldy croissants. This was the worst vacation experience we have ever encountered.

This was such a disappointing and extremely physically uncomfortable experience. The concept is fabulous, but it needs to be thoroughly thought-through every step of the way. There are other glamping experiences which offer a much more pleasant and efficient experience. I do not mind paying the cost, but I do expect to receive quality customer service, top-notch amenities, and an enjoyable experience.

It is unfortunate that this review had to be so negative. I do have photos of most of these unpleasant situations I mentioned. Unfortunately, I do not have one of the large stink bugs crawling all over the bed because my first instinct was to swat them off and not photograph them. I was so looking forward to this experience and it was such a horrible disappointment. I regret to say that I would never recommend this facility to anyone. Another regret is that I wasted $1700 on a very unpleasant experience.

Read vbvick's review as it is spot on. They are either understaffed or under-trained. Service prior to arrival was great. But once you are there, forget it. Our sheets didn't seem clean, we found used foods in our buffet chest, glasses looked wiped down, not actually cleaned, the tent has gaping holes in spots so forget about keeping anything out of the tent. There was groups of stink bugs and spiders gathered between the screens and the canvas. I get it's camping but this should be part of the cleaning process to make a sweep of the bugs. I get a few bugs but these had literally set up camp. No eggs or bacon were offered as promised on the web site - just pastries and fruit. I tried an orange that was old and mealy, our farm to table dinner was cancelled (told different stories as to why - suspect because only us and one other couple mid-week.) The sides of the tent in the bathroom weren't even secured to the structure, just flapping in the breeze. We also weren't met in the parking lot because the "text wasn't received". There was mold that could have easily been wiped off the folding screen in the bathroom. The property is set up to be great, but it just isn't. It needs a proper manager. As it is, it feels like the money is just being pocketed. I would not go back at these prices. I really want them to succeed. And I thought about just sending this to a manager or corporate personally but when I read the other review that said they hadn't even received a response from corporate, I thought I needed to go public. It's a shame. Save your money. I've stayed at other similar glamping experiences that aren't even supposed to be uber luxurious as this bills itself, that were better than this. So disappointing.

Where to begin...

Prior to our arrival on our day of check-in, we received a text from Jaime (manager of property) asking us to please give them a heads up when we were on our way so that someone could be there to greet us when we arrived. We texted back and forth a few times and then I was sure to text on the exact turn of our drive that we were instructed to let them know we were close. No one was there to greet us. After all that. We walked up to the main tent to be checked in. They were busy and completely understaffed, so we had to sit and wait for awhile. The check in process is not ideal.

We were then, brought to get our bags from our car, and brought to our tent by Sheila, who was very nice and talkative. She was great. She showed us around our tent and told us that the tent we were in was only about a week old. There were stains all outside of the tent (which was odd for it being so new), the cloth napkin under our water jug was stained and dirty, there was a blanket in our tent that had something spilled all over it....little things like that started to pull our attention. Then we started noticing all of the bugs that were sharing the space with us. Big spiders, grasshoppers, ants, bees, flies, mosquitoes, beetles, you name it. They were in there. This was due to the gaps between floorboards of the tent and the huge holes at the top corners of the tent that should have all been patched up for what we were paying per night. We paid $756 total for 2 nights. That included breakfast for 2 people for both mornings we were there.

The tents are, as mentioned by others, on a plowed field, filled with gravel. The "fire pit" where they do smores every night was not at all cute and didn't look inviting. Now please don't get me wrong, I fully understood that I was doing a version of camping. Glamping. For $375/night. So I expected to be staying in a gorgeous tent, with bugs OUTSIDE, not inside, and to have options of things to do during the days. During check-in we were asked "so what did you ladies have in mind that you'd like to do while you're here?" There should be a daily activities schedule that they give to each guest, with hiking, sailing, games, fireside music, spa services, events going on in nearby towns, winery and farm information in the area, etc.

*****THE BATHROOM SITUATION***** was one we hated. Your bathroom is not connected to your bedroom. You have to unzip your bedroom tent, walk outside on a little walkway which is fully open to animals, bugs, etc, then unzip your bathroom tent to get inside. That's kind of terrifying at night when you hear all types of animals around you. We smelled skunk very near our tent while we were there as well. The floorboards were also not sealed in the bathroom so tons of bugs in there also.

This retreat should also be adults only, in my opinion. For the price tag, how can anyone relax or enjoy nature when you can hear kids screaming and running around in nearby tents?!

All in all....completely not worth the money. They have a lot of work to do. The staff is kind but needs to step up their overall service and have more pizazz. They were all very laid back and extremely shy. They need to take more charge and be more outgoing. Sheila was an exception to this.

The tents should also be able to lock in some way. I realize its a tent and thats not a traditional camping luxury, but we were paying for luxury in that setting and when you're staying very near other people and animals, it'd be nice to know you are safely in your tent.

Sadly, I would not recommend this place and was so looking forward to it. Bummed and $700+ poorer.

Would not recommend this whatsoever. Location is a big disappointment; it's marketed as next to a horse farm except you are explicitly forbidden from entering onto that much nicer property. It's basically a plowed field with no views. Certain staff members were rude and condescending. Our shower didnt work - seemingly key for "glamping”vs camping and we were told that no one could fix it - offered no compensation, etc. They nickel and dime you for everything which is silly because you are in the woods. Basically no amenities, there is nothing to do. We asked for hiking recommendations and were sent somewhere 2 hours away. Again - very poorly located. Next time I'll take a real tent and actually go somewhere pretty and take my $550 and check into the Four Seasons afterwards.

My husband and I love tent camping and we also appreciate 5 star hotels and restaurants. We were curious about a "glamping" experience and at $500 per night we were prepared to be wowed during our stay at Collective Hudson Valley! The tent accommodations were almost as luxurious as advertised: spacious, smartly decorated, comfortable beds and linens, adjoining bath with rain shower. There was, however, no wood-burning or electric stove and there were no robes as described in the list of amenities. We arrived mid-afternoon in a steady rain and parked in a muddy lot where an ATV eventually came to pick us up. Our leather and canvas luggage had to be placed in the open back of the vehicle. When we stopped at the main tent to check in we asked if a tarp was available to cover our belongings. 2 garbage bags were brought to us for this purpose. During our orientation to our tent, I noted that it was as cold inside as it was out - a very damp 54 degrees. I asked if a heat source was available and 2 space heaters were brought to our tent. To fulfill the glamorous part of glamping, our tent should have been warmed prior to our arrival - as we texted the staff as they requested when we were 5 minutes away. We should have been transported in a fully covered vehicle, and a warm beverage and fresh cookies would have been a nice welcome.
Breakfasts were delicious - as expected. The farm to table meal was average at best and did not respond to the $150 per person charge which does not include any alcohol. Campers provide their own cocktail or wine. We had ordered the BBQ dinner for our second night but I had to look for a staff person late that afternoon to find out where and when it would be served. The vegetables were tasty but the steak was stringy and chewy. At the end of the main course there was no mention of a dessert and no staff seemed to be in attendance so after sitting at our table for about 10 minutes we walked back to our tent. No one offered any advance info regarding the highly advertised smores kit or a camp fire but I did note the next morning that I had received an email at 9:50 the night before that the staff was enjoying a fire and we could join them for smores at that time. Too little and too late.
We would have enjoyed sitting on our "private deck" if someone had wiped off the rain and dirt from our Adirondack chairs. The website includes the mention of "snacks" but none were available.

Other than the parking lot and walking paths that need grooming and more gravel, the Collective Hudson Valley basic structures are impressive but the amenities and service that would really make this a "glamping" experience we found sadly lacking and certainly do not justify the $500 per night rate. I initially wrote a letter to their corporate office rather than writing a negative review for the public to see but I have not recieved any acknowledgement of my comments. Maybe they don't care?

My wife and I celebrated a night to ourselves after dropping our older son off at college. We had an amazing stay, truly a unique get away. The staff were so authentic, friendly and helpful! The place was amazing, special and different.....and the food was incredible. It is so hard today to find upscale lodging that has consistent quality with local and unique feel. Collective Retreats Hudson Valley succeeded in providing a special experience and we look forward to visiting other retreats!

I booked a Collective Retreats weekend for my wife's 30th birthday and it was spectacular.

From the moment we connected with the GM, Jeff to our final wave goodbye. The safari tent we stayed in was right out of a movie, every detail was thought through, every whim was fulfilled. It was no surprise to learn that Jeff spent much of his career with Ritz Carlton learning hospitality.

Our most special moments were around the dining tent. Wendy, the local chef and food-entertainment delivered a meal we will not soon forget. Despite the many bottles of wine we consumed, every bite was an insight into the local farms and culture.

After a night luxuriating in our tent we had a fantastic made-to-order breakfast and was offered a feast of options to spend our day.

We can't wait to explore the other Collective Retreat locations.
