The Garden City Hotel garners appreciation for its professional service, though some guests have noted issues with room readiness. Cleanliness is a standout feature, with the hotel's rooms and public spaces receiving high marks. While the rooms are spacious, there are occasional remarks about dated decor.
The amenities and prime location are generally well-received, especially for their convenience to NYC and local attractions. However, the value proposition is a concern, with some guests feeling that the costs outweigh the benefits. Despite this, the hotel's elegant atmosphere is consistently praised.

Detailed Reviews
The reason why I booked a room at this place is because I was attending a wedding held at the same location so I decided to book one for me and my family. It is very convenient to get a room here for special events so you don’t have to worry about driving home at night, but for the price of the room…..I was expecting more. Check in was fine, great and friendly staff, I was aware of the resort fee and taxes ahead of time and when I got to my room, I had a sense of discrepancy. The deluxe double room is indeed Spacious and luxurious, but the interior of the double room isn’t any different from a standard nicer one. Queen beds looked kind of small but soft and comfortable. The TV is small for a 42 inch, a nice French wooden desk and countertop shelf for the TV, mini fridge and extra drawers. A good standard sofa but doesn’t convert to a bed, which is why you got to request an extra bed if needed. The bathroom has a nice marble white and silver color for the floor and walls. Good sink and bathtubs although the walls in the bathtub could use some extra molding. The A/C works great and offers good heat depending on the temperature of the month you stay in . The room is nice in general but for the price, I don’t think it’s justified since it seems I’m paying more for the bathroom than the bedroom, or maybe for the exterior of the hotel. However, it does help make it easier to attend special events held here and spend the night after which I am grateful for that. The ballrooms offer lots of space for special events like weddings, although the lower level has a little to no internet reception. The hotel does offer breakfast but that’s a separate charge, same for restaurants. Spas and pools are also available for guest however the pool wasn’t available when I tried to get there on a Sunday morning as the doors were locked. Small gym meant just for lifting weights and cardio which is good for small workout sessions. Check out was good too, the front desk understood I had to get my stuff from the room so she allowed me to get my stuff and return to check out despite being after 11 am. So overall, this hotel is good just to spend the night if you are attending special events here at this location, but not occasionally since it seems they may overprice you for a room that offers less than expected. But if you need to get a room here, try to get a good deal if possible. It is an interesting hotel for what it is and the next time I come here, hopefully it will improve on the rooms I hope to use all the facilities this hotel offers. For what it’s worth, thank you for the stay.

The Garden City Hotel is an overall excellent choice, and I always enjoy my stays here. I’ve stayed several times and plan to continue returning. The staff is truly outstanding, from the friendly front desk team to housekeeping, and the attentive doormen and bell staff.
One of my favorite features of the suites is the leather-upholstered furniture, like the sofas. It’s a rare and elegant touch that adds to the comfort of the rooms. Additionally, the rooms are incredibly spacious, which I deeply appreciate.
That said, there are a couple of areas where the hotel could improve. The bedside units are quite outdated, featuring USB ports alongside 30-pin dock connectors for older iPhones and iPods, which are no longer relevant. Updating these to modern charging stations would be a significant enhancement.
Also, in rooms with combined bathtub and shower units, the shower curtains could be upgraded. Instead of the current ones, I’d love to see high-quality fabric curtains, like those found in other upscale hotels, which add a more refined and luxurious feel.
Despite these minor points, I truly enjoy my time at this hotel and highly recommend it with these suggestions for improvement.

Overall the Garden City Hotel is nice. The rooms are pretty clean, but please consider updating the lighting, it's dimly lit even with every light on. Also, the mirror in the rm is speckled (the actual design) so you can't properly see yourself before stepping out. There's no real counter space in the bathroom, just a thin ledge above the sink. The sink does have wider sides so you can rest some toiletries on it. My family & I frequent this hotel whenever we're in NY because it's one of the nicer ones. However, I do think it's time for some room upgrades though.

A special treat at the Garden City Hotel occurs every other Saturday when the Red Salt Room is set for afternoon tea! Our experience with the wait staff there made our “tea party” celebration so special for my friend and me. The wait staff was not only helpful with suggestions about what to order, but they were also so friendly, kind and thoughtful.
Within moments of our ordering, the waitress and waiter brought our individual teapots with the teas we had each selected and the large square plates with our 6 individual tea sandwiches as well as a 3-tiered tray with scones and desserts for us to share and a small plate with accoutrements to enhance the fare. Our table was quickly overflowing with little bites of heaven! One of the two wait staff had noticed that my handbag was on the floor and how I was struggling to find a place for my phone on the table. He immediately brought over a side table for my personal things before I could even make my request for his assistance. There was just the proper amount of attention paid to our table as our water glasses were refilled at the appropriate time and we were questioned if there was anything else we needed and . . . there never was ;)
Since I had arrived earlier than my friend for the afternoon tea, I just wanted to mention how lovely it was that a manager greeted me warmly. We spoke for a few moments and I greatly enjoyed our conversation. He was friendly, gracious and kind! He made me feel right at home, even though it had probably been 10 years since I had been to the Garden City Hotel.

I made a booking over the phone with Hotel Booking for the Garden City Hotel and specifically requested a rollaway bed for my 8 year old and 5 year old and it was confirmed on this phone call that one would be provided, subject to availability.
Upon arriving at the hotel on May 26th for check in, the front desk told us a rollaway was available, but would not be provided due to fire and safety codes. Upon receiving this information. we sought other options (i.e.- connecting rooms with appropriate sleeping arrangements), but none were available. The hotel refused to issue a refund, so with no other option, we checked in.
We had a terrible night’s sleep as the two double beds were quite small and could not accommodate four people (especially two adults at 6’ and 6’5”). I was told that the only way we could receive a refund for the second night was at the discretion of the general manager of the hotel. I then went to the front desk early that morning and advised them of our intent to check out and request for a refund for the second night which we would not be using. I was told the general manager would be available in a few hours (the staff could not provide us a credit for the 2nd night without his permission). We did not request a credit for the first night despite the awful and uncomfortable sleeping arrangements. We simply wanted a credit for the night we would not be using.
The general manager never arrived so we checked out prior to 11:00 am on May 27th.
Ultimately, the hotel refused to provide a credit and blamed the booking company for providing incorrect information. Neither party has been willing to provide any relief. Overall, their staff is mediocre and their general manager clearly lacks any type of ethical standard. He would sooner grift a meager $250 from unwitting, misled consumers than do the right thing. If management is reading this (and it looks like they do), keep in mind that what goes around comes around. Yours is a service business. What hope is there for you if you can't provide good service and then still take consumers' money? Not much I'm afraid.

Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you encountered during your stay with us. We regret that we were unable to provide the rollaway beds you requested due to Fire Marshal regulations, which prevent us from placing two rollaways in a double-bedded room for safety reasons. We apologize if this was not clearly communicated through the third-party platform you used to make your reservation. Unfortunately, due to a fully booked situation, we were unable to offer alternative accommodations that evening. We understand how frustrating this must have been for you and your family. However, rest assured that we took immediate action by contacting the third-party platform on your behalf to request a refund for the second night of your reservation. If you have not received this refund, we recommend reaching out to them directly to ensure the process is completed. We take your feedback seriously and are committed to improving our services. We hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back and provide the exceptional experience we strive to deliver.

We booked two rooms for two nights through AMEX’s fine hotel program and I truly wish they would remove it as one. We used the rooms to prep for our wedding being held nearby last Thursday. We only really needed one night however, their check in and out time made it impossible to do that. Despite speaking to multiple people, the front desk suggested we book a night and then a day rate, to which we learned didn’t exist afterward. A day rate is the same as a night. I’ve stayed at 4 and 5 star hotels across many continents and cities and this hotel felt like what I imagine is a 2 masquerading as a 4. The service was abysmal. Our room key kept locking us out to which the front desk person suggested to keep away from phones (we kept them away on the dresser the entire time). Room service is not available at the hotel. However, oddly enough when I requested 7 empty champagne glasses to each room, they were delivered and charged about $3 per glass. Yes, empty glasses. One room never received their glasses. I had a $100 food and beverage credit with each room so when I tried to tell the front desk to put the champagne glasses under that, they told me I had no charges to the room. Of course there’s a charge on my card days later. When we asked to book a small conference room for my party, we were told we could only do so if we hosted the wedding at the hotel. Lastly, and this was the most shocking and upsetting experience about the entire stay, I called the desk one night asking for cutlery. The person responded verbatim “what are you asking for?” I said forks, knives, spoons… disposable if you have. They said “I don’t understand what it is you’re asking.” I said “Do you have silverware downstairs like a fork or knife that I may use in my room?” And they said “I’m sorry I don’t know what it is you need. You’re going to have to call in the morning and ask.” I promise you I’ve never in my entire life experienced a conversation like that at any establishment. The bellhops were the only friendly and good experience. I would never stay here again. My entire wedding party was in disbelief at the service of the hotel.

To shed some understanding on your comments please allow us to explain. The Front Desk advised you that to check in as early as you needed that you would have to book the day before since check in time is at 4pm as was stated on the confirmation you received and during the booking process. We do not offer "day rates". We apologize that this was misunderstood or not to your liking. Unfortunately, sometimes RFID key cards can get demagnetized by other electronics. With the amount of people in each room it is very possible and likely that this happened regardless of where the keys were. Or perhaps the wrong keys were interchanged between all the activity going in and out of your two rooms. Although IRD does have limited hours we do have Crave45 Market Place where you can order items to your room or pick them up. We would have been more than happy to make any accommodations had we been made aware. It is a standard practice in any full-service establishment that serves food and beverages that a service fee or corkage fee is incurred when you bring your own. This was explained and you did order after acknowledging the charge, so it is perplexing that you are now mentioning this. Had you not wanted to accept this charge all you had to do is decline them. In any case you did not pay for this charge since you used your credit for this and brought in your own liquor. We do have rental fees for event space rooms. These are not offered complimentary and after this was explained you declined to rent the additional space. We did however accommodate all the extra people you had in each room. Rest assured you that everyone knows what cutlery and forks and knives are and this comment is demonstrative of your ill-intentioned review. Perhaps we are not the right fit for you and wish you all the best in finding a hotel that better suites your needs.

The hotel needs updating desperately. Rooms are dark and dreary and the bathrooms have no space for toiletries. What award winning hotel has a shower curtain and a tub with a rubber stopper on a chain? The handhold bar in the shower was falling out of the wall and the toilet paper is absolute sandpaper. I called downstairs and asked for a bowl to use for a snack and they only offered a full dish setting for a charge of $20!! Absolutely ridiculous. We will not be returning.

The Garden City hotel is the only game in town for a 4/5 star experience in western Long Island. The staff seems to take advantage of this by providing subpar service and an arrogant attitude.
Firstly, we arrived at 2:00 PM. The desk clerk told us she could check to see if the room was ready (which she didn't) and could charge us $75 for an "early check-in". She didn't check and just handed us the keys. This is just an egregious money grab.
We arrived at the room which smelled like the last guest was smoking, the TV wasn't working, and the water pressure was terrible. We informed the front desk of the issues and they sent a gentleman to fix the TV. The other issues were left unresolved. My travel companion began to suffer severe allergies in the room so we requested a room change for the second night at 8:00 AM the next day. The clerk advised us to bring our stuff down at 11:30 and will hopefully have a room ready by that point. We arrived early (10 AM) and watched many people check out. We waited 2 hours for a new room with no luck. I then spoke to the manager and he advised me that he cannot provide us a room because airline staff has the priority of normal paying customers like myself. Eventually after a lengthy wait, they provided us a room. Very disappointing and not 4/5 star service.
Next time I travel to the NY area I will be staying at a property in the city that appreciates its guests.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you faced during your stay. Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities, and we are truly sorry that we fell short on this occasion. Early check-in is subject to availability and incurs an early arrival fee. We do recommend that guests plan for the standard 4pm check-in time. This enables us time to ensure that all rooms are cleaned, inspected, and prepared to meet our high standards of cleanliness and comfort for your arrival. We are glad, however, that we were able to accommodate an early check-in of 1:45pm as well as the room move you requested by 12pm. We have discussed the issues you mentioned with our Directors of Engineering and Housekeeping to ensure that this situation is addressed and prevented in the future. We appreciate your feedback and sincerely hope you will give us another opportunity to regain your trust and provide you with a memorable experience.

Overall a nice facility and location. It’s an easy walk to a great “small town” downtown and less than 30 minutes to JFK. The electric train station is across the street and you can go to Penn station in 45 minutes for 18.00 to enjoy the city. Rent a car as Long Island has plenty of day trip options and pleasant scenery.
The history of the hotel is part of its charm and fun to learn about.
The staff was very friendly and responsive to any concerns. The on-site night club and restaurant were very enjoyable. We were there for a wedding (140+ guests) and the hotel did a stellar job of hosting the wedding eve dinner and post wedding breakfast. We dined from the regular menu 2 days pre wedding and it was excellent. Have the wrapped halibut
Pricing for the location and facility was appropriate and the room was clean with a comfy sofa, small fridge and a Keurig for good room coffee. Ask for a room facing the local cathedral.
The on-site take away shop has a nice selection of wine, beer, soft drinks and quality pastries, sandwiches etc. You do get 2 bottles of complimentary water each day.
The reasons for not being 5 stars, housekeeping was inconsistent (not leaving face cloths, leaving the ice bucket without a fresh liner, leaving used glasses) The shower heads should be replaced with handhelds as the water restricted fixed head was annoying at best. It’s time for new toilets, maybe the slowest flushing of all time and our room (710) had a wrinkle in the carpet from sidewall to sidewall.
All things considered, we would probably stay here again.

We had such a nice time here! Although out stay was very short, it did not disappoint! My family was impressed from the start with the staff, restaurant option, and of course the room. From friendly front desk, to helpful bell men, to attentive servers, they raved about the quality and service. They even delivered extra towels in a basket and that left a lasting impression of attention to detail to my family.

I didn't stay in the suite. But the room I stayed in could only comfortably sleep 2. Also it's a pretty nice hotel. They probably won't let you just pile in a bunch of people like a spring break beach hotel
There is a small coffee shop across from the elevators… with pastries, bagels, yogurt, etc… Opens at 7 AM
Yes i am certain that they do
Yes I read that review and I have no clue what a haunted retirement home would feel . Certainly not my experience at that hotel
No it can't
