The Inn, featuring working fireplaces, jetted baths, and private sundecks, is nestled in Upstate New York on a 250-acre private lake. As a premier Catskills bed and breakfast, the Inn at Lake Joseph offers a variety of summer and winter recreational facilities, including row boats, kayaks, an outdoor pool, cross-country skis, snowshoes, and access to a nearby health and fitness spa. However, unlike larger hotels, this intimate retreat boasts just 17 guest rooms, providing a luxurious yet informal and casual country atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a relaxing, private, rustic mountain lake environment. Surrounded by the stunning Catskills, much like the Berkshires, White Mountains, Adirondacks, and Poconos, the area offers spectacular scenery of lakes and rivers, hiking trails with views of majestic peaks, and isolated waterfalls. Yet, unlike these other regions, the Inn is conveniently located no more than two hours from New York City.

Needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of a very stressful year. The Inn at Lake Joseph proved the perfect cure. Spent a midweek and everything we needed was taken care of but still felt like we were alone at the inn. Between myself, my wife and our dog would highly recommend. Also don't miss the breakfast!

The perfect place for a Catskills getaway, the Inn is set on a gorgeous lake offering boats, lovely pool, easy scenic hikes off the property and plenty more hiking nearby. The rooms are large and comfortable, the homemade breakfast delicious and plentiful and the innkeeper Matt is welcoming, helpful and immediately there to answer any query or requests. Common rooms are full of all kinds of activities for the evenings. We cannot wait to go back (or move in?).

Spent 5 days, 4 nights at The Loft at the Inn at Lake Joseph and it was perfect! The place is beautiful and the grounds are breathtaking. Matt at the Inn was great and took care of all of our needs from check in to check out. We had great nights at the fire pit roasting marshmallows and enjoying the environment, including some fun conversations with other people staying at the Inn! The room was empty for 24 hours before us and all COVID precautions were taken, making us feel very safe. We plan on returning either just us or with a group of friends in their Guest House accommodations!

In over 28 years of traveling and staying in many inns and bed and breakfasts, my husband and I have never left early. If it had been earlier in the evening when we arrived, we would not have stayed the night we did. When we checked in, Matt was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for dinner. We were also so thankful that he did it charge us for the 2 additional nights we were scheduled to stay there. We have never seen the photos on a website be so drastically different than the reality. Our room was dirty. There were many cobwebs, a few dead bugs, stains on the robes, paint chipping off, wallpaper coming off, and the carpet was worn through in places and so dirty I put towels down to walk on. We were shocked! The website looks wonderful.
When we returned home, I wrote a kind email to thank them for letting us out of 2 nights and to inquire about the charge for the night we stayed. When I saw that they charged us almost $500 for the one night we stayed, I asked if they would be willing to lower that amount considering the condition of the room and the fact that we did not eat or drink anything (we left at 7am just to get out of there). They could have responded and declined to adjust the charge; however, I received no response.
With cleaning and updating, this property could be exceptional. We can only speak about the room that we had and the parts of the main house we saw.

On the website, The Inn at Lake Joseph looks pristine and I’m sure it once was, but now it is old and tired. I don’t require much, but cleanliness is at the top of my list. We were not offered any help carrying our bags to our room (in the Gold category) at the top of 20 precarious (for travelers of a certain age) stairs. The room was dirty with heavy dust, and a layer of dead bugs on the window sills. The blinds and windows were dirty as well. One of the “clean” towels in the bathroom had obviously been used by someone else as it smelled heavily of patchouli. The “private sun deck” (about a six foot square) overlooked a large garbage bin and a parking lot. If one attempted to sit on the deck while the air conditioner was running, hot air blew in the direction of one of the two deck chairs and water dripped from the air conditioner onto the deck. Breakfast was served from 8:30-10:30 but was more than a half hour late. On one day, the chef had called in sick and on the next we were told that service hours were “approximate.” There are many rules—no unleashed dogs, no dogs in the pool area, face masks must be worn in public indoor spaces, etc. I saw all of these rules being broken. When we asked about housekeeping, just for picking up garbage and leaving new towels, we were told there was none due to the pandemic. Needless to say, the room price (close to $1200 for three nights) should have at least guaranteed a clean and comfortable stay.

We’re sorry that your stay wasn’t what you anticipated. We’re here 24/7 for our guests, and our goal is to allow you to have a great experience. When you check in, we try to give you all the information you’ll need to enjoy your time with us, most importantly that we’re available at any time—including to carry bags up stairs if requested. If there are any problems, we certainly try to make them right. Most of our guests remark on our cleanliness, and we always make sure linens and towels are fresh and clean. It’s true that we don’t allow dogs in the pool area—our local Health Department requires that rule. Other ‘rules’ are recommendations: dogs are allowed to be unleashed everywhere except down by the lake; and we tell our guests to use their own judgement regarding mask use. (Our staff generally stays masked inside the buildings.) Although we’re not doing daily in-room housekeeping due to the Covid pandemic, we’re happy to pick up trash from rooms, or provide clean linens, etc., whenever our guests let us know what’s needed.

I had been looking for a sophisticated and close retreat from NYC for the last 10 months during this Covid crisis. I came across the Inn at Lake Joseph in May and was very impressed by the website. The only issue was that each time I selected a date to go, the rooms were completely booked- I guess that is a good thing. We traveled to the Inn for a weekend stay in the middle of December. After booking months in advance to secure the room I wanted, it was surely worth the wait. Matt, Rue and Ivan were very sweet and helpful. The common area at the front house was very clean and sanitized. The grounds were immaculate and the trails leading to the lake and the hiking trails on the property were easily marked and well-kempt. We had a small labradoodle and he loved the trail as much as we did. The room had beautiful high wood beams and the room was very large. Th Sleep number bed was very comfortable and the whirlpool jet tub and fireplace added warmth to our perfect country weekend away. We had breakfast in the main dining hall both mornings and it was varied and delicious. We had a good chance to sit and talk with Ivan during breakfast about how to make this world a better place. My husband and I were incredibly happy with the level of service and cleanliness here. The staff all put 150% into making your stay a memorable one. This one will be in the top 10 for me.

We were looking for a dog-friendly resort near NYC and stumbled on this inn. It was exactly what we were looking for. It’s a quiet, expansive property. Beautiful lake, nice pool, row boats, kayaks and a secluded hiking trail. Our room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. Our dog had a wonderful time running off-leash and chasing chipmunks. The staff couldn’t have been more hospitable and helpful, suggesting local activities and restaurants that were dog-friendly. If you’re looking for a quiet mountain getaway, this fits the bill.

I loved this place. The 18 acre resort is just what we needed for a Little R&R. We stayed in the carriage house which is separate from the main building. Our room had a loft, a full kitchen ,and a gas fired fireplace. PERFECT for our stay. The stairs and the floor are slightly pitched due to the age of the bldg. {140years} but adds to the character! of the place. there was two nice flat screen TVs with cable so we could catch the World Cup on that rainy day.. The lake is a brief 5 minute walk from the inn.We took in the view all by ourselves very serene .There is a hiking trail which is about 2.1 miles long . I did it early in the morning with my recused G.S. dog. A nice trail not difficult .
Matt the Innkeeper is an attentive host. a good candidate for Innkeeper of the year He took our breakfast orders , cooked our breakfast { excellent BTW} got us some more towels and TP. Chatted us up @ Breakfast and took care of check in/out. He make us feel like family... The rest of the staff are equally attentive as well. I seen one employee picking up broken branches outside the dining room. The others zipping around in golf carts taking care of the rest of the property . The two woman who served us breakfast were both friendly and polite. Everyone is great .

Most of our interactions were with Matt and he made us feel very welcome. He was clearly proud of the Inn and with good reason. I told him that, although we love everything about the Inn and our Eagle's Nest, the very best thing about the Inn was all of the nice people we met and enjoyed great conversations with in the beautiful heated pool, along our walks with our basset hound puppy, and at the fire pit in the evenings, complete with roasting marshmallows. This was an ideal place for a dog because of the gated deck so he could enjoy being outside with us. It was especially fun to grill dinner on the deck with the Weber grill and provided easy-light bag of charcoal. Breakfasts delivered to our deck and picnic lunches were delicious and fresh. We'll return soon!

Spent a terrific weekend at the Inn at Lake Joseph. The reservation was easy to book online. Covid precautions are in place and the Inn is very clean. We were greeted by Matt who is a charming, thoughtful, well informed and helpful innkeeper. Our room (the Eagles nest) was perfect. Clean, spacious, well equipped, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely FANTASTIC. Made to order, fresh, cooked perfectly and served with homemade sweet bread The service was great. We met the owner, Ivan who is engaging and insightful. We enjoyed walking the grounds and sitting by the lake. The lake was peaceful and serene and we also took out the row boat. On Sunday we did some antique shopping and visited a nearby Farmer's market. Overall our stay was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. The Inn at Lake Joseph is a perfect getaway and is masterly run. We will return.
