This was our 10+ visit to Woodcliff, our first after Covid shutdowns. I have stayed here as a couple, with friends and with a group of couples. I have referred many friends. Our experience has always kept us coming back. Sadly this will most likely be our last visit. While I appreciate that it is hard to staff these days, and always allow for how hard everyone is working, there are just a few things that are not acceptable. We pulled up to complimentary valet and waited to be greeted. When no one came we obtained our own luggage cart and wondered inside. Not a big deal at all, but signs indicating valet closed or no bell service available would have been helpful. Cleanliness is lacking all around. I thought the lobby was dirty and garbage strewn as a result of a conference being held, but found sadly that our room had dust and cobwebs in the corners, as well as on the branded complimentary bottles of water. The bathroom was not as clean as it should have been. Our room had a stench that could only be described as “body odor” like. The fan in the bathroom had peeling paint and could not be shut off. It was loud all night. The lack of cleanliness is certainly different from previous stays. The pool/work out area had absolutely no staff. There was garbage blowing around outside and trash left on tables. There was no beverage/food service available at the pool and food service inside didn’t start until 4pm. We enjoyed drink and food at the pristine outside pool area during previous visits. We chose to eat in the bar area of Horizons. The food was just okay. The drinks have raised in price considerably, $15 for a sub-par margarita in an “on the rocks” glass is just too steep. We had planned to stay all evening on property but 3 servers could not be bothered to inquire with us as they chatted at the bar amongst themselves. Our main server had what appeared to be a heated conversation with management at the bar for 40 minutes. We had to approach a different server to obtain our bill to leave. During previous visits we used the complimentary car service to go to different local spots. When we inquired at the desk we were told there was no longer a Bell person to drive us anywhere. The desk clerk said I am actually the only one on duty now at 9pm on a Friday night. I shared with him my disappointment in the lack of services available during this visit and the lack of upkeep of the property and agreed with him it is hard to staff to offer these services and maintain the property, but then the ROOM PRICE SHOULD NOT HAVE MORE THAN DOUBLED since our last visit if services were not available at all. He offered to put a note on our file but couldn’t explain what that would do. He also advise that Woodcliff had really upped its wedding and conference business, but couldn’t explain how that benefitted annual repeat guests like ourselves. We normally enjoy spa services but with the double cost of the room and the increase in the actual services we opted out this visit. I did attempt to reach out to the general manager of Woodcliff before I wrote this review, but no one contacted me from my request I made on the website.…
Hotel under renovations. Staff still trying to learn. Very friendly. Room clean. Elevators very dark. No help in swimming pool area. Locked out from outdoor pool. Spa was very good. Food excellent in dining room for dinner. Not opened for other meals. Only meals outside dining room quick but limited. Good views. For a first class hotel this left a lot to be desired. Staff did try to rectify problems but couldn't always do that. Nice people.
Attended a big concert nearby at CMAC and most hotels were booked. Came across the Woodcliff and booked one of their suites. The hotel has a lot of 80's style decor (a little dated), but the suite was interesting and transported us to a different place (Oriental Suite). The bed was a little high but SUPER COMFY, and the neat soaker tub and multi jet shower was amazing. Only issue was one elevator was not working during our stay so it took a little bit to wait for the 1 working elevator. Was pleasantly surprised by this hotel.
Saturday night on business stop over, have stayed here in the past. Hotel had a wedding in the lobby area, band played into the night, folks in the next room had a barking dog. Won’t do this again. Hopefully the coffee service works in the morning. Hostess at the bar was very pleasant.
Woodcliff is not what it use to be, The rooms were dirty broken light fixtures, elevators were broken 4 times in one night. Dinner was 2 hours late , and staff claims it was because it rained outside and they have to move food carts between bldg, Also cookies were purchased from Wegmans to serve at a wedding. place is a total rip off
Kitty, at front desk, and Owen, bellhop, were awesome in every way and made our stay exceptional! The view and grounds are very pretty. There are miles of walking trails. The Horizons restaurant was great too.
My daughter and I are local, so have known about Woodcliff for a long time, but this was our first visit. I decided to treat myself for my birthday. We had a number of spa treatments and then spent the night. The spa is beautiful, the staff friendly and attentive. And the room was lovely and comfortable with a glorious view. We will be back. [Note: masking mandates had been lifted at the time of our stay.]
It looks nice enough but the walls are not sound proofed enough. Had to call 2 times before a noisy party in a room ended the loud music at 1:30 aman! Then there was laughing and loud talking… then crying. Now talking in the hallway! It’s like a cheap hotel on spring break! I have to be in the area. So, going to another hotel.
We recently stayed at the Woodcliff Hotel and had one of the most memorable time there, The occasion to spend some time with Family in Rochester NY. The hotel staff are very professional and courteous. The Restaurant staff are outstanding.. everyone really made us feel like we we at home. Thank you to the Woodcliff Staff for making this time we had so special
Hotel is a staple in Rochester and has been here a very long time. Once known for its aura of having a special overnight trip. Now, not only does it need a serious update right down to the cups in the room that the water bled through while drinking to the railing in the pool area that if you grip swings out of the step to the dining area ( it looks they are starting that reno) but mostly they should really honor their GIFT CARDS that were paid for no matter the year as they are the same hotel as when it was bought. That sealed the deal we won’t ever be back for that reason alone. Honor your cards as someone spent their hard earned money to buy them.
