The Essex Inn has excellent cocktails and great food. They've even got their own house wine. The ambiance is wonderful. There is a fireplace inside and a fire pit outside. It is super cozy. I highly recommend!

Old and charming on the first floor. Rooms have been refurbished and are new and comfortable. No breakfast but there is a good cafe a block away. The bar was cozy and friendly. The dining was good and was more gourmet than down home. Essex is a charming village, but very quiet. This is a place for a night or... More

Our family of four stayed in a nice suite. Renovations are great. Cool Tavern imbedded in the Inn and modern fire pit out back was awesome. The hardwood floors are outstanding. The real gem of the property is the staff. Gavin, Roman, Whitney, and Deirdre were approachable, wonderful, friendly hosts.

This was our second time at the Inn and both evenings we had a lovely dinner. The staff was friendly and the food was excellent. They seem to have scaled back the menu a bit since our last visit but all of our selections were wonderful.

My husband and I stayed here in March on our way to Vermont. Even though it was during the off-season we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Inn is so quaint and the views of the water were so beautiful. Our room was so inviting and the bed was perfect. Gavin the innkeeper was very nice and so informative about... More

Rooms here are really nice but very pricey. The historic building has been beautifully restored. Unfortunately, the food can be uneven because the chefs keep changing so it's hard to know who will be in the kitchen. I've had great food here but also so-so. Still, the menu is always interesting and the prices are quite reasonable for the quality... More

A little pricy but very good food! A nice atmosphere. Quaint town out of the past. You can walk to Lake Champlain or drive less than 3 blocks and take the ferry over to Vermont. We went twice a year to visit family and walked down the hill to eat at the Inn when there. Newly remodeled.

We stayed at this beautifully renovated inn in upstate NY on our way to Canada. Our room was the perfect Adirondack-style retreat--spacious, beautifully decorated with all the amenities you could want. Wonderful breakfasts in the am, only disappointment not having been able to dine at night (must be amazing though), but found a great place nearby. Easy, pretty drives to Lake... More

This little Inn was such a wonderful experience for my husband and myself over the Labor Day weekend. If you're looking for a place to get away from the hectic city life with no more than a few cute shops and art galleries, an ice cream shop, a couple restaurants, and a ferry to take you over to a more... We were in the area for a memorial service so stayed a Saturday night with other members of our family. Let me start with the one not good thing: the reservations got messed up. We called and reserved a suite but then later found that they didn't have a record of it which was strange. Overall the reservation process seems... More
