Detailed Reviews
I have stayed here about 6 times a year for 3 years. The place has been taken over and was hoping for better management. My room -998 a night - was so noisy with noise from the yard and the restaurant. I always book a room
far from the noise but they don’t do that anymore. Management said they were booked and maybe they are but no explanation about why I could not choose a room 2 months ago.
Again the place is fine but for this price point I expect better management.
I don’t think it’s worth the money and they aren’t very caring about customers
summary: Management still sub par and care about money not customers

Dear Camper31280158415 - thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry the noise was such an issue for you. As discussed while you were here, we were completely sold out and were unable to move your room. Had you requested a room far from the noise when you made the booking we would have done our absolute best to confirm that. You mentioned that the previous owners only allowed dogs in certain rooms and as you know, that is no longer our policy. You were expecting certain rooms but again we have no historical data and were unaware of your preferences. We sincerely apologize again, and please do give us a heads up next time you book if there is a specific location you would like to be booked in. -The Maidstone

Great ambiance, EXTREMELY clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly staff and a captivating Scandinavian-inspired hotel. Located only 10 minutes away from historical Hampton Village (wow, a cool and quiet walk I recommend). They also provide fur chair throw if you want to sit outside. I wish I could give 5 stars but there was a disappointing continental breakfast (and was only served after 8:00 am). There was no coffee or tea in the room itself either :( Wine list is way overpriced (Copain Les Voisins California at $125... no kidding) and no Scandinavian drink or spirit at all to be found on site. Drinking a margarita, a mojito or an American whiskey in such a decor just felt odd. They should rethink it. But overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Maidstone. 4.5/5

Hi Simon! Thank you for all the wonderful compliments. We are sorry about not having coffee service in your room. We only have 2 Cozy rooms without the space for a tray, so that will be on the list of things to reconsider. Thank you for the very constructive review.

I’m in shock. The man preparing the breakfast buffet wasn’t wearing a mask and when I asked him about it he scowled at me still never putting one on. Why are people with that attitude even in the hospitality business!! Other than that this place is cute. Charming public areas. On a busy road so some rooms are loud. They accommodated a move to another room for us. The evening front desk ladies are incredibly nice and helpful.

Summer pop up restaurants come and go every Summer in the Hamptons. I was tempted to think this was another as "Scarpetta" made the trek out East to establish "LDV" in the iconic location of the Maidstone Inn. I expected it to be noisy, serving average food and full of staff, there for just a Summer and not focused on customers. Wrong !
Upon entry, one is greeted by Chloe at from desk who charming and welcoming. The ceiling is low over the bar but the pre-dinner drinks were were swiftly prepared and excellent. Our Server (Katey), while a Summer student was very knowledgeable and explained the menu. The food is excellent - The Yellowtail Crudi is light and delicious as were the oysters. Spanish octopus was a delicious appetizer too. Pastas as an intermediate course were all beautifully prepared. Particularly recommendable was the Spring lamb cavatelli. Portion sizes reasonable. The whole branizino for two was amazing and again perfect for two people. Indeed the size of the portions (ie not too large) facilitates the diner to peruse the menu and try multiple dishes. Best of all was the Sommelier Sergio, charming and delivered recommendations that were good value and very drinkable. Really good. Indeed, the food is brilliant but the service is better. Despite having just opened, this is the best dining experience in East Hampton

This place had a lot of buzz over the summer, so we were happy to get a reservation for a celebratory dinner last night. We live nearby and it's always exciting when a new place comes to town. We were particularly looking forward to LDV because we love Scarpetta Beach in Montauk (same ownership), but it's a bit of a haul from East Hampton.
Unfortunately, the whole experience left us flat. The room itself was lovely and our corner table was intimate and romantic. We started with a cocktail and the complementary bread basket was amazing. Our first course was a kale salad an a burrata with grilled peaches. The salad was great, if a little basic. The buratta itself was fine, but the peaches were rock-hard unripe and uncooked; and whole thing sat in a dessert sweet peach reduction. I'd had salad with delicious ripe peaches at Elaia Estiatorio in Bridgehampton just a few days earlier, so perhaps the comparison made it worse. This may be the first dish I've sent back in ten years. This is where things took a weird turn. Our server, while apologetic, seemed more concerned with having me try something else than with the dish being displeasing. A few minutes later, a gentleman in a suit appeared at our table and asked about the dish. He never introduced himself so I have no idea who he was, but he was completely unapologetic and vaguely confrontational...he did say he'd 'tell the kitchen' and it was taken off the bill. My main course was a squid ink linguine with crabmeat and urchin. The seafood was delicious, but the pasta was a homemade fettuccine (not linguine) that was so overcooked it was not 'twirlable.' My wife's dover sole was also slightly overcooked. Also a little strange that this place is walking distance to the Atlantic Ocean but all of the seafood appears to be flown in . To be fair, we did not complain about our mains because we were having a nice evening and wanted to avoid any further conflict. And they weren't bad, just not particularly good. Dessert was delicious, a lemon granita (described as a sorbetto on the menu) with bits of lemon custard served in a hollow frozen lemon. This said, we got the distinct impression that our server was trying to talk us into a second dessert even after we told him we wanted to share one. I might even have considered it, but it involved fresh strawberries...after the peaches I was sceptical about any other fruit selected by the chef. We dine regularly at Saint Ambroeus just a mile or so down the road and tried this place for a change. Next time we are in the mood for la dolce vita in East Hampton we'll skip LDV and stick with our go-to.
I'd have likely given it three stars were it not for the weird and unapologetic interaction around the burrata.

Avoid this outrageously overpriced, tired mess of a hotel! So bad that we finally just left a day early, giving up our $1,500-a-night for that last night. The room itself was filthy and tired. Bathroom broken down with toilet hissing in middle of the night. We lived out of our bags because there were four hangers in the closet and only one functional drawer. Room cleaning did not happen until we complained at 3:00 one day and then 4:00 the next day. Evening room service was suspended. No toilet paper replenishment, we had to use the tissue box. It needs a physical renovation and new management.

This hotel has seen better days. Stayed during high season and it seemed completely dead. Even dinner service on the weekend in the restaurant was empty. The room we stayed in was quite worn except the linens were great. No mini bar, no working phone to call front desk, the TV was 20inches with cable only unlike other luxury hotels that have it all. Because there was no mini bar that meant no cold water. The lights in the bathroom got so hot after being on only 5 mins. The water stopped working twice and we had a guest on the pullout couch that said the “mattress” was like sleeping on the floor. There was no duvet for it and when we called they brought an extra sheet. “Room service” which was us walking to the bar to ask about food ended at 9pm. Free breakfast didn’t have any eggs, protein, etc. just boxed croissants and bagels. Coffee was from Wednesday for Sunday. Overall, this is a place to stay if you want something affordable and are in need. Cannot recommend staying here however

Unkempt, trash strewn grounds. Smelly, musty and noticeably moist room. Staff seemed disengaged. For $1,200 a night, you’d at least expect more than a few donuts and bagels for an included “full” breakfast.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The hotel is under new management and they are doing a great job! The staff very accommodating and friendly. They are also very dog friendly a must for us. Everything was terrific from the Continental breakfast complete with fresh berries and Goldbergs bagels that were often warm when they arrived, to the bikes and beach umbrellas and chairs. we also loved sitting on the front lawn watching the world go by having coffee, reading the papers or having a cocktail.

We came a long way to visit The Maidstone. A lot of research was put into choosing this hotel - our levels of excitement were admittedly high. It was therefore an unfortunate experience to find out that essentially we were arriving when guests weren't really going to be looked after (most importantly that there was no restaurant or bar open). I went back through the websites afterwards to find out if there was any kind of warning about the off season limitations, but couldn't find any. I feel that could have been better communicated and more often to manage expectations. On top of that it felt like things were rundown and whilst we appreciate it's been a tough few years for tourism, the price of the hotel didn't reflect the tiredness or lack of working aspects. We also understand it's hard to find staff right now, but we were treated very poorly by the caretakers who made it clear that it was not their problem. I attempted to have a polite conversation with balanced feedback to the owner, who whilst listened, I walked away feeling like I was a pest. There was an air of contempt for us - that we 'ought' to have known better what to expect. We were promised a refund, it never eventuated. It was unfortunately a highly disappointing experience.
