#6 of 12 B&Bs / Inns in East Hampton
East Hampton Village's charming Baker House 1650 is regarded by critics and guests alike as the most exclusive and luxurious bed and breakfast in the Hamptons. From the ivy covered walls to the 200 year old wisteria and formal English gardens, the feel is distinctly European. Less expected are state of the art amenities such as flat screen high definition TV's with full cable and DVD players, Bose wave music systems with iPod docks and free wireless internet. The large, beautifully furnished rooms with wood burning fireplaces, William Morris wallpapers, and Frette linens delight visitors, and the lavish bathrooms are enhanced by whirlpools and L'Occitane products. The outdoor infinity-edge pool, with teak chaises for sunbathing, is ideal for unwinding, and the Baker Spa, featuring an endless pool, massage area, steam shower, Jacuzzi and sauna, provides unparalleled relaxation. In the summer, guests receive coveted East Hampton Village beach parking passes, as well as plush beach towels, umbrellas and chairs. The Baker Carriage House, located directly behind the main house, offers even more luxurious accommodations and suites, making it a purely indulgent retreat. The Baker House 1650 is ideally located on the historic village green, within walking distance to the ocean, as well as world-class shopping and restaurants.

We came for a long weekend and ended up extending for a week and a half vacation. My wife and I haven't found a place like this except in Europe. We cannot say enough about the staff, the charm, how luxurious and how courteous everyone is. We had some of the best food on this vacation including a pear, goat cheese and shallot omelet from the hotel's chef - it was one-of-a-kind. We booked two weeks next year and can't wait to go back. Thank you Baker House.

My husband and I needed a place to stay for one night in order to attend a birthday party in East Hampton. We are familiar with the Hamptons and know how expensive hotels and inns are due to limited inventory, and that it often costs a lot of money for a very small room. However, I was not expecting the hovel that was room #2. There are NO pictures on the website of room #2. It looks nothing like the rooms that are advertised. No charm, no space. It was truly a dump. I could barely walk around the bed. But the owner had the nerve to charge $875/night for that room and we were provided no warning that the room was inferior to those advertised on the website. When we complained and said that we would prefer to just leave and stay somewhere else, the owner refused to refund our money. He then went on to insult my husband - telling him we had no style and would be better off in a motel 6. To be honest, we would have! THE BAKER HOUSE IS ENGAGING IN FRAUD. Advertising one thing and providing something completely different and inferior is fraud. The owner's refusal to refund us our money was criminal. We ended up just driving back to the city that night and sleeping at home. Do not support this establishment!!! Stay at Topping Rose.

The grounds of this hotel are quite beautiful. Nature and the diligent work of very polite and clearly talented landscapers are responsible for this. However, the service provided at this hotel was less than adequate for any discerning traveler. The staff are absolutely untrained on any attention to details in providing service to guests. This is a very expensive hotel (2k/night), do not expect much for the over top cost you will incur.

Dear DetailsPls, We appreciate you taking the time to write a review - we really do appreciate all feedback. We are happy that you found the grounds as beautiful as we think they are. As far as the staff, can you please elaborate on this? Are you referring to the entire staff (office, kitchen, housekeeping)? I would like to know so that I can discuss this with the proper department(s). If you would like to email directly (info@bakerhouse1650.com) about anything specific, again, I would love to hear so that we can improve upon this. Again, we appreciate you taking the time to write a review and we thank you for staying with us. Sincerely, Heather McCormack

The Baker House is fantastic! It is in a perfect location in East Hampton. This was my third time there and my visit was perfect! The rooms are wonderful and the rest of the main house and carriage house are beautiful. The pools and grounds are gorgeous. They are very relaxing in the warm weather. Breakfast is delicious and the servers are friendly and accomodating. Housekeeping is terrific as well. The staff at the front desk is warm and welcoming. Looking forward to another visit!

We spent the weekend at the Baker House where we had spent our wedding night 25 years ago. The property is absolutely charming with a real period feeling in the public areas. Our room (#15) was comfortable and well maintained though the bathroom could do with a modernization/update. The staff were great and the breakfast (included) was tasty and well prepared. The hotel has an honor bar for drinks which helps with the feeling of staying at a friends house. Even without the nostalgic element for us I would highly recommend it.
