East Hampton Village's charming Baker House 1650 is regarded by critics and guests alike as the most exclusive and luxurious bed and breakfast in the Hamptons. From the ivy covered walls to the 200 year old wisteria and formal English gardens, the feel is distinctly European. Less expected are state of the art amenities such as flat screen high definition TV's with full cable and DVD players, Bose wave music systems with iPod docks and free wireless internet. The large, beautifully furnished rooms with wood burning fireplaces, William Morris wallpapers, and Frette linens delight visitors, and the lavish bathrooms are enhanced by whirlpools and L'Occitane products. The outdoor infinity-edge pool, with teak chaises for sunbathing, is ideal for unwinding, and the Baker Spa, featuring an endless pool, massage area, steam shower, Jacuzzi and sauna, provides unparalleled relaxation. In the summer, guests receive coveted East Hampton Village beach parking passes, as well as plush beach towels, umbrellas and chairs. The Baker Carriage House, located directly behind the main house, offers even more luxurious accommodations and suites, making it a purely indulgent retreat. The Baker House 1650 is ideally located on the historic village green, within walking distance to the ocean, as well as world-class shopping and restaurants.

My husband and I stayed here for his 50th birthday on November 11th. It is a charming B&B with good service and an excellent breakfast. I had "toads in a hole", which was eggs in fresh sourdough bread with cheddar cheese melted on top and a side of avocado. My husband got the croissant french toast stuffed with ligonberry and poppy cream cheese. We also got bacon and fresh fruit on the side. The spa is very nice. The steam room is sooo hot and the pool is hot enough and relaxing. I was disappointed by the dry sauna. I really wanted it to be hotter. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn't make it very hot. You can rent the spa for $75/hour and it's just you and your honey. Also, there's the most gentle dog named Bogie (blond labrador?) who very gently greets guests. I enjoyed myself at this spa and would come back just for the breakfast!

We spent the evening in the garden igloo, sipping wine and playing scrabble. There was no reason to leave the grounds, it was all so enchanting, like a scene out of a storybook. Crispy white faux blankets were draped over the wooden benches, the electric fireplace warmed the space and all the quaint accents made you feel right at home. Tanish was a fabulous host, her gracious demeanor made us feel right at home, I didn’t want to leave.

Dear Jennifer, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and for your kind words. We are so happy that you enjoyed the igloo! As you know, we just recently added the igloo to our grounds and it is really helpful to have your feedback. We hope to see you again - now we are hoping to get a little snow so it truly looks magical! Best, Heather

Great old stately home with modern conveniences and exceptional customer service provided by Tanish. She was outstanding and exceptionally responsive. When I couldn't find the Baker House initially because it was a wet and very dark night she guided me to the place over the phone. Gave me a great tour and ensured I was satisfied with the accommodations (which I was). She then recommended a nearby restaurant that was absolutely fantastic. Overall the Baker House was great, made even greater by Tanish. Well done!!

The grounds of this hotel are quite beautiful. Nature and the diligent work of very polite and clearly talented landscapers are responsible for this. However, the service provided at this hotel was less than adequate for any discerning traveler. The staff are absolutely untrained on any attention to details in providing service to guests. This is a very expensive hotel (2k/night), do not expect much for the over top cost you will incur.

Dear DetailsPls, We appreciate you taking the time to write a review - we really do appreciate all feedback. We are happy that you found the grounds as beautiful as we think they are. As far as the staff, can you please elaborate on this? Are you referring to the entire staff (office, kitchen, housekeeping)? I would like to know so that I can discuss this with the proper department(s). If you would like to email directly (info@bakerhouse1650.com) about anything specific, again, I would love to hear so that we can improve upon this. Again, we appreciate you taking the time to write a review and we thank you for staying with us. Sincerely, Heather McCormack

I never stayed there, and now am glad I won't be! This is about their rigidity in relation to cancellations even several months in advance.

I was charged a 10% cancellation fee for a two night reservation i held for less than 4 days, 8, months in advance. Amounting to around $200.00. While I didn't actually stay there, I wanted to warn potential customers not to make a reservation if there is even a remote possibility that their plans will change. I cancelled my reservation for 8 months out just a few days after making it, because I found a much more reasonably priced accommodation. First, the hotel did not refund the one night deposit ($965) after my cancellation even though they sent an email confirmation that they had deducted the charge and assured me verbally by phone that "nothing had been charged yet". Thus I had to follow up with another call the next week to actually get the cancellation confirmed. When I spoke to the person that time, I asked again if that might, in the interest of good customer service, refund the $200 or so cancellation free for the way-in-advance reservation that I made for two nights. That person said they'd refer the matter to a manager but couldn't do anything themself. I followed up with a detailed email about the above and requested again, in the spirit of good customer service given the time frame involved, that they refund the cancel fee (I don't think I should have to pay $200 for spending a few minutes on the phone with one of their reservation folks this far in advance). I heard nothing back and so will work with my credit card company to see if they can help me out on this. In sum: don't make a reservation of any length, any amount of time in advance, if there's a possibility that your plans will change!!

Dear corinneb168 We are a small bed and breakfast with a limited number of rooms, each and every reservation is important to us and each cancellation makes an impact. In this time an age all small businesses are struggling to survive and we have a full staff that rely on us for work year around, which is why we have our policies in place. We generally make sure to inform our potential guests of our cancellation policy, verbally before booking their reservation with us. Just like we did with you at the time of booking your reservation, you were fully informed of what was included with you stay, a full description of your room with a bed size, a fresh made to serve breakfast, gym pass, beach pass (during high season when needed) and last but not least our reservation policy, which requires a 50% deposit of the subtotal of the reservation which is followed by our cancellation policy. All cancellations are subject to a 10% service charge of the full reservation. You also received it via email the same day your reservation was made which is time stamped and has been submitted to merchant services. Everything I just mentioned is out in the open for potential, current and future guests to see. We are very clear and forthcoming with our policy to avoid misunderstandings and bad experiences such as the one you claim to have had, however we can't please everyone 100%. Have a good weekend. Best regards, Veronica

We are a large Italian family and required a lot of rooms and space so the Carriage House at The Baker House exceeded our needs. From the beautiful grounds, salt water private pool to staff that were 2nd to none-it was an amazing experience. Is ideally located within walking distance to the East Hampton village. Best part though was Anne, the Innkeeper. She was so charming, accommodating, had a great personality and makes the best breakfast! She’s the reason we will surely return.

The Baker House was a beautiful oasis in the heart of East Hampton! The grounds were peaceful and perfectly maintained. The pools were heated so as to enjoy on the 70 degree days. The House contained all its original charm and architecture with beautiful decor. The staff was amazing! Everyone from the waitstaff to housekeeping was friendly and did a flawless job. And the Spa is not to be missed! As a massage therapist and aesthetician myself, the quality of the technicians was superior. The owner is present and talks with her guests and cares about not only the quality of their stay but who we were as individuals. I needed peace and quiet and that was exactly what I got. I could go on and on. I have nothing but accolades for this place. Worth every penny and worth planning a longer stay.

The Baker House 1650 in East Hampton is just an amazing bed and breakfast experience. It's an old house from 1600's with all the old world charm. If you want to have a massage or the private pool make an appointment and reserve your private time. The rooms are quite beautiful and offer a lot of charm and all the necessities. They offer delicious breakfast each morning, The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

This place has really changed. Stayed several weeks ago and had an inadequate experience. Rooms were slovenly, the kitchen staff were inattentive and front dest receptionist extremely aloof. There was no one to bring up our bags for over an hour (and our friends who actually checked in today told us they waited even longer just for a filthy maintenance person to do so) I'm not sure if they have new ownership or what has occurred, but it definitely shows; how terribly sad. We will not return after 12 continuous summers. FURTHERMORE, they denied the admission of my 8yo son to stay, whom is a refined and astute child - and yet this property is posting images advertising children. It is no wonder why so many are going elsewhere.

Dear petramK220GW It is quite difficult to follow up on the chain of events of your stay with us. You claim to have waited over an hour to check in, the only reason why anyone would wait that long to check would be is if a guest arrived to the property between 11:00 to 12:00pm expecting to check in. As a visitor of 12 years you must already know that check in time is at 3:00 pm and check out is 12:00pm. When that is the case, we usually offer to hold the guest's luggage in a safe area while their room gets properly cleaned. While the guest goes out has lunch in town, once the guest returns they can expect their luggage in their rooms and keys ready for them for their check in process. You also claim that we refused admission of your 8 year old son, if that is case then how did you end up staying with us without your son? Again as a visitor of 12 years you must be familiar with our policies when it comes to children. We allow babies up until 12 months old then 10 years old and above. We do post pictures in our social media of children that join their parents for our Afternoon Tea Session on Sundays with their parent's permission. No harm on that. We're grateful to see our usual year around guests come back so far and if you would like to rejoin us and visit us again, please do so we will be happy to have you. Have a wonderful rest of your day.
