Our stay at the Starkey House in May of 2021 was a nice retreat. We stayed in the Veranda Room, with a walkout to a covered porch overlooking Seneca Lake. Cathy was very welcoming and provided my wife and me with a clean room that met our expectations during our stay. The hearty breakfasts made with local products were delicious--even the coffee came from a local market. Cathy’s suggestions for local dining and best wineries were very helpful. Dundee is a convenient spot to call home for 2 nights while visiting Seneca, Cayuga and Keuka Lakes. We recommend checking out Starkey House for future visits.

We were on a road trip and ended up in Watkins Glen late in the afternoon. Calling around for an inn we found this gem not far out of the town. The place was very quiet and relaxing. Innkeeper was very nice and turned us on to a great local place to eat in Himrod only a short distance from the inn. Would never have found the Himrod Eagle restaurant without her help. Breakfast was awesome. If I get back that way again, will definately want to stay there.

My boyfriend and I just finished a long weekend at Starkey. Cathy was an amazing host in such a beautiful location. We loved our stay. The room was beautiful and very private. Breakfast was delicious! Cathy was able to give us many recommendations, especially our YUMMY dinner at Ports Cafe. We are already planning our trip back!

Thanks for staying here and I am so appreciative of your lovely review. I welcome you both back. The 2021 season has begun! 2020 was certainly challenging for everyone, especially those of us in the hospitality business. It was guests like you that made every bit of extra effort on our parts worth it. Thanks from the heart! Cathy

The breakfast was great and the rest of our 3 day stay was average at best. The owner/manager was not very responsive to questions by email and phone. There was no common or lounge area (only our room) and breakfast was only served outside on the porch. Overall it lacked that happy atmosphere and was not very well kept.

Roland, I am sorry that your time was not enjoyable here. I know that you had a difficult time embracing the changes that were necessary for all businesses during this time. I am feeling blessed that 99% of all guests that have stayed here since my reopening in June were completed satisfied and did not have a problem with being compliant with new standards. Yes, the COVID pandemic has taken away a lot of the joy and happy atmosphere that is so usual, including for all of us essential workers who own small businesses. We have to wear the masks and gloves and do our very best to serve you so that you can enjoy a time away. We still have to wear a mask even when all guests are not expected to wear a mask when seated at the breakfast table. We cannot share coffee pots or have buffet, serve yourself food areas and social distancing is a must. It is difficult for me to remind anyone of this especially since everyone has been hearing about all of these guidelines for over six months now. I wish the need for these rules and guidelines would all miraculously go away. But, in order to offer a safe place for my guests to visit we all have to share in the adult responsibility. I am not aware of any emails or phone calls from you that I did not respond to. The other couple you traveled with communicated easily and they had a designated common area that I created, especially for you all to congregate together with special seating on the lower porch with lake views. Common areas are not allowed now but will be in the future. I am sorry your stay was not what you expected and that your friends left you a day early. My regards to you all with wishes to stay safe and get through the winter at home in a happy and joyful atmosphere. With appreciation for all that is happy and good, Cathy

This is a well maintained, large house with room for just a few guests. The hostess is very responsive and communicates well by text. The breakfasts she prepares with love are absolutely delicious and filling. Quiche, fresh blackberry muffins, blueberry pancakes, and more... with daily devotion. Coffee is fresh and strong, as I like it. The bacon is just right, crispy. Our room, upstairs had ample private porch space. The bed was super comfortable. The view is a stretch to see much of the lake, but country evening air is appreciated. Air conditioning is good, as is wifi. We ordered the cheese and fruit plate, and did not want it after all. Hostess was not able to take it off our tab, but packed us a nice fresh collection to go. The assistant who helps with breakfast was also nice, and has two adorable donkeys(?) just up the way, which we enjoyed visiting and feeding carrots. No apparent nearby access to the lake for swimming, but we were happy to drive around and had three beautiful days exploring the area (Corning Glass Museum, Ithaca, Lake Seneca views from Watkins Glen). The hostess was super conscious of Corona rules, as were the guests.

Your words are much appreciated! Thanks for staying and i do hope to see you again. We are all working with triple the effort to be certain that guests have the ultimate best experience. There is nothing I love more than creating fresh breakfasts from locally sourced foods. This year I am able to use vegetables from my own garden. Everything you talk about in your review, item by item, is so important for future guests who will be coming to stay at 1922 Starkey House. This is my ninth season in business and I am proud to offer all that I have to you! From the heart, Cathy
