I have been going to CIL for approximately 22 years with my family . We started off renting 2 side by side log cabins and last year added a cottage due to our growing family . We excitedly looked forward each year to returning. The welcoming dinner the first night was always an enjoyable way to start off the vacation. , We were welcomed with a delicious buffet , and enjoyed meeting and talking to all the returning staff that often stayed on for many years . The lodge was always warm and welcoming . 2023 found the resort with a new owner that had posted a message she was going to keep CIL as it was with more planting and gardens to be added . She stated though the lodge had always had breakfast and dinner included in the price , she was taking away dinner and replacing it with the option to purchase dinner there nightly for an additional fee . I do understand times change and I emailed the lodge stating we looked forward to returning . The lodge did not have an assigned phone number to it so I emailed them several times asking to make a reservation . Over two months later, I received an email back with the new price list and requesting a large deposit . I was shocked to find the prices had just about tripled even though dinner was no longer included . I found this to be outrageous and sadly made a reservation with another resort in Lake George . While there , we decided to ride through CIL to see what it was like now and was shocked to find most of the parking was removed and where it was once a very lively resort full of children running around and playing , it was now a ghost town . Later in the week we revisited CIL and went into the main lodge . To say it was depressing would be an understatement . The new owner removed the front desk and where there were always people sitting and talking or playing games , there was now silence and it seemed abandoned . I walked into the dining room , which once held a multitude of tables , and saw only 2 in the rear of the dinning room set . No staff was on hand and when I looked into the kitchen there were 2 men sitting on the prep tables playing on their phones . Finally, someone noticed me and came out. I asked if there was a manager present and was told no . Then I asked if there was a brochure I could look at and was told no . Such a warm person ...... lol . I got in my car and drove around the resort and found not a soul in sight , CIL has truly become a ghost town of Lake George , so very sad !!!!!

It seems that we missed all the noise about how much Canoe Island lodge changed before we booked but it was apparent from the min we pulled into the driveway. We were still looking at the promise of the website and the things it says are available minus the dinner. It looked nicely manicured but the parking spots all gone. The office now an empty room where you grabbed your key and were offered cookies from new faces that all looked out of place and a bit awkward. The new owner was there to greet us but it wasn’t welcoming as she made chit chat and then could be heard saying “I guess I’ll go now” It’s a ghost of what was once full of life. They handed us a sheet for us to schedule things that was included but we found out at our “Welcome” dinner we were there with one other family equally surprised with the changes. If the welcome dinner didn’t set the theme for the rest of the week. The chef was off the Welcome night and the menu was only what was offered for lunch with some things not available. “Oh and please pay before you leave dinner. “ The dining room was eerily empty and quiet while the workers 3 just stood watching you eat. Nothing welcoming about that experience. No tv in the main house where the kids previously gathered to watch cartoons but same furniture just in different spots. (Oh & no tv at all No cable in the rooms as tvs didn’t work) Ping pong table Gone. One menu for breakfast and one for dinner with no daily changes made us want to go elsewhere to eat. However one night the owner was there for dinner with friends and they did have a different menu than the paying guests. Go figure. Actually when meal service was done they shut and locked the dining room doors We were able to get to the island one last time take a dip at the beach and see all the tables that were once filled for the breakfast and bbq days. The beach we had to ourselves and it was really ok like having our own lodge for the week. The staff really were nice and I felt bad for them kinda put in a position to work but not really sure what to do. We did find comfort in our kids playing with the other family’s children as we adults sat and talked about life, changes and what we would do next year as we said farewell to the place and our memories. It’s a shame we were lied to about what we were getting when we booked cause I really don’t think she cared to have us. She pretended to be on her phone when she walked past us and didn’t even look our way. As if we didn’t spend good $$$ at her establishment Well That’s a wrap 2023 CIL it was a pleasure knowing the old you.

Well, the handwriting is on the wall. No phone # to access anybody. No staff around. They bought a beautiful compound and island for over 10 million and I am sure they are going to sell of pieces of it or build their own "mansion" on it's grounds. The reviews this year are terrible and it is evident that they have no intention or interest in keeping it as a resort. Very sad and deceitful.

CIL…Canoe Island Lodge…where to start…I’ve been vacationing here for 39 years. It has always been well kept, family oriented and a welcoming resort. Now fast forward to August of 2023 and forget everything mentioned above because it’s not there anymore. There is new ownership this year. First, how do you buy a resort and not be there on checkin day to greet/meet your guests (She avoided us all week). We had 2 guys that had no clue what was happening and had trouble answering simple questions that we had. WiFi is spotty and there is no cable tv. You may have a tv in your room but it probably won’t work even with the WiFi. Breakfast and dinner use to be included in your package and that is no longer. Meals are pricy and not kid friendly. In our contract we signed when paying for our trip there was the options for sailing which thankfully was able to still happen and also scenic cruises that was like pulling teeth to happen. First the owner told the boat boys to take us out and make us happy. The 2nd cruise she said she wanted to know how much gas we used and said she’d send us an email saying how generous she was allowing us to go out. The 3rd cruise was denied because she said “that’s not how we run a business”. One afternoon we were having lunch on the beach and she walked by us without saying a word and made her general manager come down and tell us we couldn’t have our own food on her private property because of food safety which is odd since that hasn’t been an issue the last 39 years. To top everything we had one person in our group get eaten up by possible bed bugs. To sum things up we payed double the cost of any other year and had 90% less activities and entertainment that was offered/listed online and by emails corresponding with the resort. I would not recommend staying here under this new management.

This was very sad. From check in to check out. There was no one to greet you on check-in. Just a childlike note on the door. Very poor Wi-Fi. No TV. Boat rides were very limited. While ordering Lunch the Chef was called away to be with the Department of Health. They were inspecting the boat house and beach. No owner or other employee there to do it. The very atmosphere was very unwelcoming. Please think twice before going.

Based on how much we loved staying at CIL the past 5 years, we decided to stay there this summer after it changed ownership. Given the choice again, we would have absolutely found another place to stay. There is nothing left of the previous CIL experience. The WiFi is extremely unreliable, the tavern is not open, the ping pong tables are gone, the included waterfront activities are limited to trips to the island and sailing, not the scenic cruises that were promised to us in our original confirmations. The cable tv is gone and the TVs are not smart TVs, so you cannot sign into your streaming services as promised prior to our check in. We had to request to have a fridge in the room. Worst of all, the new owner did not greet or proactively engage with her paying guests and is creating a guest experience based on her opinions, not what her guests are vocalizing that they want or need. We felt unwelcome all week.

For many years I spent a week here with my wife and her family. They have been going up much longer since before we knew each other. It was an absolutely wonderful place and experience. You would never have to leave the resort, they had a stunning beach and a beautiful island. They offered a ton of water sports and boat rides. Breakfast and dinner were included and always top quality meals, and they had a restaurant down by their beach you could purchase lunch. This place had such a big impact on my wife’s life that I decided to propose to her there. Trips always had more meaning. Last year the owners put it up for sale, when we heard the new owner planned to continue operation we were excited. Then we saw the prices, they had made it unaffordable and discontinued the breakfast and dinner. We decided to stay somewhere else. We stopped by to inquire about the changes and upon arrival, they removed the front desk and no staff was readily accessible. It looked like 3 of the cabins were full which is a major statement as it’s usually booked to capacity. There were no kids running around or people to be seen anywhere it was a truly depressing experience stopping there. Almost seems as if the new owner wants the business to die.

CIL was recently sold and the new owner clearly does not care about the guest’s experience. There is no manager on site and no one picks up the phone. The Property is not as advertised, there are no water sports and the Windjammer restaurant is not open, WiFi did not work, the TVs do not work, the refrigerators have been removed from the rooms, they do not have a liquor license, they are on their 3rd chef this summer, first two quit and all the waitstaff quit. It’s terrible, if you have ever been there before do not come back, I would strongly suggest no one books a vacation here, you will not get what you expect. Very Sad, it used to be an amazing fun family place.

What a weekend...... :-) 12 in our group this year. Starting with the amazing buffet Friday evening, this all inclusive weekend (including beer) is an exceptional value. The grounds are amazing. The food is above average and plentiful and served family style. The whole place feels like family :-) Waterfront activities like sailing and pontoon boat cruises are still available. I think this was our 5th year and we're already reserved for 2020.

Our family of 9 visited Canoe Island lodge for the first time. The staff is fantastic! The activities are numerous. Everything from canoeing to waterskiing. The dining room is family style. It is amazing how they feed so many people with a variety of dishes at every meal. The food is not for gourmets but great for family dining. The rooms are very clean and well cared for. My daughter’s air conditioner was not working well during the heat wave. The staff changed the unit with a new air conditioner. There are lots of things to do in the area. Good times for all!
