We just left Hickory Grove and I agree with the 6/12 posting.
The place is just OK. We paid $150/nite and it was not worth it.
It is quite far away from the center of Cooperstown, about 10 miles away. We wasted a lot of gas $$ going back and forth.
Only after we balked about the closed beach and threatened to leave did they offer us access to a hotel pool up the road. We should have been offered this upfront.
The place is not a bad place but it could be much better. The new owners need to step up their game.

When we were planning on visiting Cooperstown a year ago, this was the only hotel available for the dates we wanted. Now I understand. Cooperstown has NO and I mean NO Chain hotels or restaurants. Everything is family owned. So with that said, we didn't have much of a choice on where to stay.
This is a motor inn. The old fashion type that I stayed in as a kid. The room was very small with a window unit that had a hard time keeping us cool. The TV kept going off. Didn't quite understand that. But overall, it was a place to rest our head after visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame and continuing on our way across the state. Staff was very pleasant and helpful in finding a place to eat.

Thank you, JKKTEXAS, for reviewing our establishment. Our town, Cooperstown, does not have chain hotels on Lake Otsego because our town wants to keep its small quaint town feel and therefore we only have family owned hotels and restaurants in our town limits. We do realize our rooms are on the smaller size but we have updated every detail in our guest rooms over the last 5 years. Every room has its own AC/Heat unit by GE that most certainly cool down our guest rooms as those are tested on a weekly basis to make sure they are in working condition. The TV problem you had could have been corrected if the issue was brought to our attention. We would like to thank you for letting us know about your stay with us and we hope you choose us, Hickory Grove Motor Inn, next time you are in the area.

Terrible all the way. The room smelled of
mold and mildew. Went and asked at the
office if there was a better room and the
gal said they were all like that. I ended up
go to my car during the night because my
throat was swelling up and I couldn't
breath. I even tried to sleep in the room
with a face mask on. In the morning I
asked to talk to the manager and he of
course was unavailable. She left
messages for him, and after me calling
every other day for a week, he still has not
called me back. Would NOT stay here for anything

WiFi barely works, and there is little to no cell service in the area. Lake is accessed via a batch of grass down the road and down a hill. There is one single four person paddle boat available. Shower barely fits a normal sized adult. Room smelled musty.

Complete bait and switch. There is really no lake access and is certainly NOT lake front. You have to walk hundreds of feet thru and past private property down a steep hill to access only about fifty feet of rocky beach. More appropriate at $75 a night, NOT the $200 current rate. Don’t be fooled, find another accommodation!!

This hotel was perfect for our budget. Don't expect anything fancy. The TV's are tube (not flat screen) the comforters are those 80's floral itchy things that hotels got rid of years ago, the door locks are real lock and key (something I haven't experienced in the states) and the beds were stiff.
The hotel has lake rights, you have to walk on the highway about 30 feet to get to the right of way down to the lakefront. There is a paddleboat but I wouldn't use that unless you want to spend a day stuck on the water.
The breakfast was light - lenders bagels with cream cheese, pre-wrapped donuts, nutragrain bars, OJ and coffee.
Here's the positive - our room was cleaned immaculately - the housekeeping staff does a great job. The front desk staff was super friendly and the price was the best in the area.
Since were went to Cooperstown as tourists we spent as little time in this hotel as we had to, so for us it was perfect.

Thank you for your review of the Hickory Grove Motor Inn. We want to clarify a few remarks in your review to better serve our future guest. All of our bedspreads and blankets are brand new this year from A1 Textiles, an expert company in the hospitality industry. Our beds are all Aspen Plush Mattresses and almost everyone says they have a great nights sleep here. The lake front access area for our guest is a short walk from the motel which is normal for our lake as we are surrounded by hills. Our motel features 12 guestrooms and we have started to replace our CRT TV's with Flat Screen TV's. Thank you for you kind words on our cleanliness and our staff as we strive to our best on a daily basis.

clean and comfortable room, very small stand up shower, breakfast consisted of bagels, donuts, coffee and OJ. Nice picnic area with tables and Adirondack chairs. nice view of the lake from our room. this motel is not directly on the lake, but you can see it from the rooms and outdoor area. lake access is provided by a gravel road next to the motel. all in all, we enjoyed our stay here.

This is a good, value consious option for visiting Cooperstown. It's not the Radisson, so I 'm not reviewing it as such. My wife and I and 2 teenaged girls booked two connecting rooms,#11 and #12, on Friday night. For both rooms together it was @ $150.00.(Prices rise sharply after June 30th.) There is a view of the lake, but once summer comes, and the greenery fills in, there probably won't be. Hickory Grove is not beachfront. You can access the water by taking a short stroll down a private road next to the motel. The rooms were older but clean and well maintained. The shower is very small and the hot water took a while to come through the pipes. The t.v. isn't flat screen, but there were plenty of channels. It was a 6 mile scenic ride into the village. The continental breakfast was of the toast , juice and coffee variety. There are pool privileges at the near-by Lake View Motel. This wasn't made clear on their web site so we didn't bring bathing suits. I really liked the atmosphere of this place. Very low keyed, almost old fashioned.

The inn keepers were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It was a short walk to Lake Otsego from our room. Short, scenic drive to Cooperstown. We'd definitely recommend this family run inn.
