The Harbor Hotel 1000 Islands impresses guests with its modern charm, well-equipped rooms, and picturesque river views. Cleanliness is a highlight, with travelers commending the pristine conditions. While opinions on value vary, the allure of its prime location, just a stone's throw from downtown Clayton, is undeniable. Though some guests missed in-room coffee makers and found the pool small, the outdoor fire pits and walkways are a hit. Despite occasional bar service delays, the staff's friendliness and professionalism receive high marks.

We reserved this lodging based on reviews and location with proximity to the river. Our schedule is flexible so jumped on September dates when I could snag the King River View with Balcony for 240.00 a night. We enjoyed our stay in a comfortable, well appointed room with a gorgeous view of the river. We didn't use the balcony for any length of time due to a variety of bug activity (many mosquitoes) hanging on the balcony and our sliding glass door (negative part of river and well lit area), but still felt the room was well worth the price for the great view from the sliding door. Lots of outdoor rec spaces (fire pit, seating areas, river walk, etc). The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was very quiet even when seemingly at capacity. The front desk called a couple of hours after we arrived to check that we were happy with our room....nice touch. We slept well with minimal hall, room, or outside noise filtering into our room. We will definitely stay here again.

Overall great experience. The hotel itself is very nice, fairly new and located right on the river. It has a big restaurant with outside seating, a firepit and adirondack chairs facing the water. The wait staff weren't necessarily the fastest but i think these days that's basically everywhere. the hotel also offers room service which personally is very important to me. It is nice to be able to wake up and enjoy coffee and breakfast before you go out for the day. Speaking of coffee just a heads up the rooms don't have coffee makers but they provide starbucks coffee outside the elevators on each floor which was an overall win. We stayed in a two queen bed riverfront room with kitchenette. That is definitely the way to go. Nice big clean room with balcony looking out on to the water. The kitchenette doesn't have a full size fridge but has a mini fridge AND a wine fridge which was plenty. There is also a microwave. There is a pub table that seats 4 in a little nook off the kitchennette perfect for breakfast and wine/cheese. The hotel is in walking distance from Clayton downtown which has pubs and restaurants. Definitely go to O'Briens which is right outside the hotel parking lot. Fun old school bar restaurant. The bar area has live music and/or DJ. Dart boards, pinball and table bowling. The restaurant is a separate area so it is quiet with good pub food. if you go to this hotel i HIGHLY recommend doing a boat tour with Your Wave tours. Don't do the Boldt Island tour. Pick the tour where they just take you to all the islands. It is money well spent and not that much money . Only drawbacks of the hotel. The two elevators were breaking all weekend. which is inconvenient especially if you stayed on the 4th floor like we did. we had to take the stairs often. The room shower fixture (at least in my room) was surprisingly cheap compared to the rest of the accommodations and should be upgraded. might sound small but if i am staying somewhere for 4 nights i want 4 good showers. That's it, if you go enjoy your stay.

We stayed here for four nights the last week of August and had a room with terrace facing the St. Lawrence. There is free WiFi, a card key is used, and toiletries are provided. The room was nice size and there was a refrigerator, desk, couch and chair. However, there was no coffee machine, but the hotel provided coffee on each of the floors lobbies from 5:30 AM until early in the afternoon. There is also a gym and pool, but the pool is small and I did not find it good for anything other than wading, e.g., you could swim laps in it or water jog.

In addition, our room was not made up two of the four nights we were there and we had to talk to the front desk.

The hotel has an excellent restaurant which faces the waterfront, and both the staff and the food is great. It is in an excellent location and you can walk to the sites and restaurants from it, and the river walk is right outside the hotel.

We stayed for a weekend to do some shopping in Alex Bay and do an Uncke Sam’s Boat Tour to Boldt Castle. We stayed in a river view double queen efficiency suite with a balcony . I was pricey, but so worth it. The view was absolutely gorgeous. The room itself was very spacious and comfortable. Nice beds with weighted blankets. Large tile shower with great water pressure. Mini fridge, microwave, wine fridge, robes, TV, etc. Only one USB hook up in the back of the alarm clock, the rest were standard plugs, which was a bit surprising but manageable if you bring extra plugs. No coffemakers in the room, but coffee is served every morning right in front of the elevators on each floor. We bring our own coffeemaker so I can’t comment on how the coffee is. The room was very quiet and never had any complaints about noise. The back patio is a great place to sit and enjoy sitting by the fire pit or the river. The river walk behind the hotel was under construction during our visit so we were not able to go out there, but it looks beautiful. The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. It is located in a great spot right next to the main drag of town. You can walk to many different shops and good establishments without needing to walk very far. Be aware that most places close before 8 pm, with a lot closing by 5 pm, even on weekends. You can even swim right in the river in certain spots that have ladders. The hotel restaurant was booked for the weekend we were there, but O’Briens is right across the parking lot and the food and service there was some of the best we have had. We definitely recommend them.
My one and only complaint was that the wine fridge had a very musty smell and needs to be cleaned and sanitized. Other than that, it was a great, fun, comfortable weekend and we recommend anyone staying in the thousand island region to consider staying here. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. đź‘Ťđź‘Ť

This hotel is in a great location along the St. Lawrence River, with excellent views from the 50% of rooms that face the river rather than the parking lot. The rooms are OK and the hotel was clean overall and the staff was friendly, but when we tried to get room service one Thursday night we couldn't get anyone to answer the phone to take our order, even when we tried through the front desk. And a simple breakfast order in the on-site restaurant took quite a while. Perhaps they are understaffed? Also, they make a point of asking guests to reuse towels due to pandemic restrictions, but there is no place to dry the towels since the bath area in the room only has one small towel rack. The staff said this is a common guest complaint but "corporate" won't authorize installing more towel racks. Seriously, a supposedly 4-star hotel can't afford towel racks in the bathroom? Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but a bit more attention to detail would better justify the 4-star pricing.

The hotel is pretty, great rooms and wonderful location. The front desk staff needs a refresher course in the hospitality business as their needs of their guests do not come first. If you arrive after 9:00pm you can only get room service and they never answered the phone after numerous tries. I had to order through the front desk and was told they didn’t have the two items from a 5 item menu. My only options were a ham, turkey or roast beef sandwich. Front desk made me go upstairs to order room service that I was getting delivered to eat outside. Also the fire pits where many people were sitting at were turned off at 10:15pm without warning even though many guests were relaxing by them. The shining star was the bartender who came out and towel dried the chairs so people could sit outside. Not another staff member bothered to check or help him. Front desk girl seemed bothered by any questions or requests. So in short, lovely hotel mediocre staff.

My extended family wanted to stay somewhere in the 1000 islands area of NY and landed on this hotel based on the reviews. Hotel location is great and very close to downtown Clayton. The beds were comfortable and the inside room was clean upon checking in. The outdoor balcony was riddled with cobwebs and I find this unacceptable for the price I spent. My room was also never cleaned again upon checkin after requesting it from the front lobby staff and I had to walk down to the main lobby to get new towels. The dinner service was extremely slow and the food was just okay. The bartenders at the main bar also lacked skill and could only really manage making very basic drinks.

This is the only hotel in Clayton, NY.

For where it is, what it is, and what they offer, it’s overpriced and expensive.

We chose to stay here because my husband has a lot of family that lives in the area and AirBnb’s prices have gone up significantly (on par with staying at an actual hotel without daily housekeeping but with a large cleaning fee at the end of the trip.

The hotel and rooms are pretty outdated but if you get a River Front view and the weather is cooperating, it’s very pretty too look at.

The room was a good size but there were parts that the house keeping staff missed. Like the tops of the lamps, dusting off the alarm clock, and the mold in the shower.

Other than the day you arrive to the hotel, there aren’t any house keeping services due to COVID but everyone pretty much walks around without a mask.

You have to ask the hotel to have someone bring up fresh towels and pickup the trash from your room. Not a big deal but when they drop off fresh towels to your empty room, they should also take away the dirty ones.

Hopefully next year things will be better and housekeeping will be back!

Dear monicamesmer13, First, if I may, I'd like to thank you for choosing to stay with us at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel. I'd next, like to sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your time with us. I have personally addressed your concerns regarding the cleanliness of your room with the appropriate department managers. These shortcomings are most certainly not part of our standard practice, and have since been addressed. We have limited our daily housekeeping services due to COVID-19, but, we are hopeful that these services can be brought back again relatively soon, pending the pandemic. I will also be delighted to take your suggestions into consideration for future planning, regarding our hotel accommodations themselves. We do hope to sincerely see you back, and hope to have the opportunity of serving you once again. Warmest Regards, Ann Marie Angus General Manager

We stayed 1 night before our day to Boldt Castle. This hotel was very pretty and comfortable. The rooms were fancy and had all we needed. We had a room with the river view and a balcony. Highly recommend this type of room. Very pretty view for sunset and sunrise. Clayton was a cute town and had restaurants and shops. You could buy breakfast at the hotel but we opted to go to a local shop (Lyric) and we were very happy with that.

We came for a long weekend with our 2 and 4 year old to swim in their indoor pool and see the river. Booked a master suite with view of river. We come all the time during the long winter so the kids can have something fun to do. We have come every single year since they opened up and are basically regulars. Well the pool was FREEZING. Both kids wouldn’t go in and these are kids who swim all the time. Well that was our entertainment for the weekend so we decided to leave early. We only spent one night and they charged us in full and did not refund us the other nights we had booked. No discount, NOTHING. We had to go because there was no way we could entertain our kids in a hotel with a pool they wouldn't go in. Over $700 plus a dinner and breakfast and absolutely nothing we came for. We will never go back. Not a good way to do business especially to a family who has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars there. They are slipping a lot since they opened. We have noticed minor things here and there but we are very forgiving people and don’t mind a downgrade here and there and know things happen. We would never nickel and dime a business. We definitely have a propensity towards rolling with the punches. This weekend though, was unacceptable. For us, the money isn’t the issue. It is the principle.
