We have stayed at the McKinley house three years during September and have found our time there delightful. The home is located in the center of Clayton with a short pleasant walk to nearly anywhere in town. The grounds and rooms are immaculate, and the house itself is a pleasant refuge from the day. Our host and hostess are accommodating and helpful, and the breakfast they provide in the home is delicious and elegant. It is a pleasant and fortifying way to start our day. We highly recommend the McKinley house and look forward to our continued stays there.

My sister and I visited Clayton, NY with two friends and were very happy with our two-night stay at the McKinley House. Lovely and charming hostess, rooms were great and very clean, very nice breakfast, plus we had a private veranda to enjoy in the evening after dinner. Our two friends had never stayed in a B&B before and they were very impressed. The location of this B&B is perfect - right in the center of town and close to museums, shops, restaurants, etc. Highly recommend the McKinley House on a visit to the Thousand Islands in upstate New York.

Beautiful home, spotless and extremely clean! You can walk into town and around the very safe neighborhood. We stayed in the room on the first floor and with that room you have the entire front porch to yourself ! I love the way they key the doors.Keyless entry, so you just put in your own special code! the owners are open to ideas for new types of breakfasts. There are a not many choices for breakfast, but with a small B and B and a fair price, who really wants food wasted? Fruit, French toast, eggs, oatmeal, and Quiche, coffee and tea. If you ask, they will also bring you juice. We loved it at the B and B and loved Clayton and the River! I also recommend Uncle Sams boat tours way OVER Claytons. WE WILL BE BACK!

I would highly recommend this beautiful Inn to anyone wanting the safest experience during the covid-19 pandemic. The owner, Alyse has studied how to make this the safest stay possible from the moment of booking your stay, to the moment of check out and implements every measure imaginable to provide a safe stay to her guests.

I stayed in the Murray room because I wanted to have my own private porch.
I look forward to visiting again. (see the Mckinley House web page for their covid practices.)

Walking distance to the main town and self-guided walking tour. Enjoyed our stay here and it's probably the best place to stay in this small town. Rooms are adequate but creaky and just okay in terms of comfort. Host was very nice and breakfast was good with large portions (too much!). Enjoyed our stay here and the historic town.

Visited during Covid and this wonderful inn is doing their very best. The location is fantastic! 1 block from the main street. There is parking onsite which is great since the little town is busy. This is an old inn and it is well maintained and clean....not really updated and modern, but all the detail you need. The breakfast homemade is excellent. I give this a 5* because I made a mistake and booked the wrong date for a friend that joined us. This lady went out of her way to find us the only room left in town. She was so sweet, kind and hard working. I will definitely return.

Wonderful place to stay. We stayed four nights and each day it got better. Owners provided spot-on recommendations for restaurants and the best way to get a table. The house is magnificent and a glimpse at a grand life. Highly recommend and look forward to staying again. Very safe and clean.

Having fled the depressing assemblage of buses, boats, trinket shops and mediocre lodging of Alexandria Bay, I have to say that I had no soaring expectations for Clayton when I rode into town. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Clayton is a nice little river town, with some interesting shops, arts and crafts, the really cool boat museum and restaurants serving edible food. And the McKinley House.

Steve is a very nice guy who showed me to my room at the back of the first floor that appeared to have been totally remodeled. The room was furnished appropriately but not elaborately and the bathroom had a new modular unit shower and nice vanity space. The bed was comfortable. The WiFi worked. The rest of the house is nicely furnished with fin de siècle pieces consistent with the late 19th century style. It is a comfortable place. I hit the road very early so missed the included breakfast.

I think the McKinley house is probably the best accommodation to be found in Clayton which, regrettably, is still scarred by several no-tell motels some of which are propitiously located close to the river. They are building a large resort-type facility at the edge of the downtown river area, but from external appearances, it looks to be yet another project that could have been something really special, but won't be. Clayton is worth a visit, though, and you should be sure to stay at the McKinley House. Happy Trails.

Very clean, very convenient location but not overwhelmed. We stay in B&B's everywhere we travel. This one was nice and would probably stay there again if in the area but there were limitations to giving this B & B an excellent review..

After doing extensive research on the Thousand Islands on-line, we decided to skip Alexandria Bay and stay in Clayton. The McKinley House had several good reviews (an no bad ones), so we opted to stay there. I can honestly say, based on what I've now seen in Alexandria Bay and Clayton, this is BY FAR the best place to stay in the Thousand Islands! It is CLEAN, comfortable, impeccably kept, and the owners are as attentive as you could ask for. We had a few requests that were immediately accommodated without question, and an added plus is that it now has WiFi. You can't go wrong staying here, as the owners are among the best and most ethical people I've met in my travels. Skip the "resorts" and stay in a wonderful piece of history with outstanding owners...
