We want to take the opportunity to thank Tom and his family for hosting us last weekend. A spur-of-the-moment Valentine's Day trip to Hudson was enhanced tremendously by the warm hospitality they showed us. There is immense charm in the B&B experience, and if it's done right, it can be much better than a hotel or AirBnB-type arrangement. Tom and his family do it right! Starting with the two B's, the homemade and opulent breakfast spread was beautiful, delicious, and served at our convenience. The bed was as comfortable as our own, and the room was spacious and warm. We would have loved to spend more time at the house, staring out at the pond with steaming mugs of coffee warming our hands, but there is so much to do nearby. Hiking trails snake through several state parks (a spur of the venerable Appalachian Trail is about 30 min away), and Tom has great recommendations. The town of Hudson is only 15 min away. Lots of good restaurants and antique stores there (shout out to Fish & Game and White Whale), and the town has a hard-to-describe good feeling to it, like everyone is happy to live there. Again, staying with Tom and family was a particularly nice experience, and we plan to return. It's not for people who like cookie-cutter vacations, but you should give it a try. Say hello to Maya, the family's extremely friendly Labradoodle, for us!

This is a nice, old farm house that has been added to over the years. It has charm....but all is not in tip top shape. The owner, Tom, is a jack of all trades and does the cooking and cleaning, as well as the lawn mowing and painting. As with any old home, the chores are endless, but this is a labor of love. Nice rooms (again, you've got to overlook slight water damage, peeling paint) - but the rooms are clean. Not all rooms have private baths. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The breakfasts are outstanding!!!! Great variety. Fresh fruit. And a selection of jellies unsurpassed anywhere. Tom cooks up a hot meal each AM. The coffee is great. The house is less than 10 miles from a few wedding venues. We were very happy here! Comfy beds. Not all rooms have private bathrooms.

Thank you for your review. I'm very happy that you enjoyed your stay, however I would like to make an important correction. All of our rooms do have private baths to be used only by the guests in that particular room. Our Parlor Room bathroom, while private to the room, is not located en suite and is listed on our website as such...a small detail but nonetheless, misidentified, could give rise to a possible inaccurate impression on the part of potential guests.

My soulmate and I went in the winter September was the date. We had the biggest room very quiet. Great bath, really secluded location. The breakfast was amazing that morning the innkeeper's made great quiche and we had a beautiful conversation. I would definitely recommend this place if you want quiet. Especially if you're going off season when nobody's around.

My stay was above average in all ways. Pleasant polite hosts. Beautiful historic residence in great original seeming condition. Comfy bed. Clean. Huge bathroom. Vintage fireplace in bedroom! Sofa too. The breakfast was so Beautifully presented!!! They have an equally polite Grey Labradoodle who was introduced to me with my approval and a cheerful little lady she was.

The 1805 B&B is nearby Catamount for skiing, Stockbridge and the Red Lion Inn and Hudson for antique hunting. This is a very well maintained and quaint building built c. 1805. Innkeepers Tom and his wife are wonderful hosts. Booking on line was easy. We confirmed with Tom the day before our arrival. He is friendly and knowledgeable. Arriving earlier than the posted check-in time was not a problem. Our second floor suite was neat and clean. The bed was comfy and there were plenty of blankets and towels. The bathroom, though tiny, was clean with plenty of hot water. The dining room was immaculate. Breakfast was the best! Omelettes, freshly cut fruit, cereal, toasts and jams, all served on custom 1805 House flatware. Oh, I hear the coffee was excellent! The other guests were quiet and friendly. Tom was an excellent host and the price was reasonable. Why not five stars? Bugs. Lady bugs were in every second floor room. Beetles and a live wasp were in the bathroom. Yes, they were all harmless, except maybe the wasp if you're allergic. But they were still bugs. Had 'bugs' been in the description, I most certainly would not have booked. Without bugs a definite five stars. I'm not going to recommend staying here but will suggest calling and inquiring before you do.

Thank you for your feedback. The bugs you are referring to are indeed ladybugs and as you stated, they are quite harmless. We do our best to diligently and carefully remove them but understandably they are quite persistent when trying to escape the cold of winter and find their way inside our country home. Graciously yours, Tom & Maria Elena

1805 House exceeded my expectations. The rooms are spacious, so there is plenty of room for suitcases and spreading out. The breakfast had a different homemade egg casserole each morning, in addition to whatever else one would expect. The best part is the host, Tom Benton, a native of the county who knows everything about the neighborhood. He is open and friendly. To him no request seems like an imposition. The hostess, Maria Elena, a native of Mexico, is also simpatica.

Stayed 5 nites in the upstairs suite. It was actually two bedrooms, one with TV and audio equip. Bathroom with shower in between the br's. Breakfast was quite filling with omelette , quiche, Spanish tortilla, etc on diff days. Plenty of fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels, nuts, etc. Ample coffee or tea. Nice amount of bottled water in rooms. Hudson is a 7-8 minute drive away. Many valley towns within an drive, as is Albany Int Airport. Tom is a wonderful host and a veritable plethora of knowledge.

The 1805 House is located in a very peaceful location, not far from Hudson. The former farmhouse overlooks a pond and includes a lovely, wraparound deck on which to relax, read, chat, etc. We stayed in the Hearth Room, which was very spacious and included a large bathroom. Tom was very gracious and friendly and provided great ideas for sightseeing in the area. He cooked a tasty egg dish for breakfast and also had cereal, fruit, yogurt and other healthy foods available. It was a very relaxing stay.

We stayed as a family in the 1805 house, and had adjoining rooms at the top of the house. The rooms were very comfortable with lots of character. Tom was a wonderful host, full of helpful advice about the area and interesting to chat with. Breakfast was just amazing - fresh fruit, nuts, cereal, yogurt, lots of different breads and bagels, every drink you could want, plus a fantastic homemade hot egg dish - nearly everything was organic. We had a great time and were very sorry that we had only planned to stay one night. We will be back!

I and my husband stayed at the old charming 1805 house b&b for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday in the Hudson Valley. The old house is simply so charming and beautiful that I got enchanted by the ambience after a step into the house. The wooden floor, the old furnishing, each detail makes this house a piece of art. Hosts have been the kindest, most charming and friendly hosts we ever met. Tom took us around for a tour of the property and showed us the area surrounding the house. He gave us lots of useful tips on where to dine in Hudson town and the surrounding falls to visit if you like to hike. He also sang along with my husband "happy birthday to you" the morning after during breakfast on my birthday. Also, he is an incredible cook: I'm a breakfast "fanatic", so for me breakfast is a big deal. Get ready to find everything you could possibly think of for your breakfast! Fresh yogurt, a selection of nuts and fruits, bread, jams, milk, cereal, cookies, cakes, orange juice, coffee, tea, hot fresh made dishes such as omelette, french toast and more! I was completely blown away by all that incredible amount of local, fresh and delicious amount of food! To recap: the place is unbelievable, the location is priceless (in the middle of a long stretch of green and nature), the hosts are the nicest people you could think of and the breakfast is like no other I have ever found in all my travels around the world!
