I enjoyed my stay here and had the place to myself for three nights as the only guest. The Rouse Room was comfortable and roomy. The bath towels were thick and awesome. Tasty breakfasts were made to order and I enjoyed the conversation with Julia and Kate, who prepared my breakfast each day. I also had a nice chat upon arrival with Charles; he was engaging and a nice guy though I never saw him again after that. I also met his two adorable kids a couple mornings during breakfast. The was delicious coffee cake and cookies on offer at any time. There weren't any specific beverages available that I was aware of outside of breakfast and I didn't want to raid the fridge so I helped myself to water from the faucet. There was no cup or glass in the bathroom which I thought was odd. Also, my room had a balcony but no chair to sit on. No one asked if i wanted the room refreshed each day and it was not. I did not have a problem with this but it would have been good to have been asked. These are all minor quibbles from a great stay and I recommend 24 East Main when staying in Canton.…
We stayed at Charles’ B&B for two days in August 2021 while dropping off my daughter to college. We really liked this charming place. Our master suite, with access to the terrace was spacious and very clean( spotless!).The breakfast was delicious and made very quickly!, coffee was excellent! The hotel has a convenient location that is walking distance to good restaurants ( Indian ! and Italian cuisine)in downtown Canton. The trains passing by late at night definitely surprised us, but the second night, it wasn’t even noticeable. Great place, highly recommend stopping by here! Five stars
24 East Main Street was a charming, comfortable overnight stay in Canton while we attended area college lacrosse games. The owner, Charles, is so creative and quite the woodworker. Everyone was so welcoming! Breakfast was relaxing and delightful. We enjoyed the sounds of a bustling village! Delightful stay!!
What a lovely B&B! We discovered this wonderful little gem on a mid-week visit to St. Lawrence University. Arriving rather late, Charles greeted us with a smile and showed us to our room. Spacious, clean, quite comfortable and very quiet. We woke up the next morning to the smell of bacon (gotta love it) and a fully home-cooked breakfast to order. Coffee was great, too. We will absolutely be back to 24 East Main St B&B on our next trip to Canton. Highest marks!!
This is a wonderful old home that has been restored to its natural beauty. You can tell that this was a project of love for Charles Rouse and his wife. Each room is beautifully decorated. I stayed in the Rouse Room and have booked the Fleur De Lis for my next visit.
Our family enjoyed the cool ambiance of living under the sloped ceilings of our little hideaway at the top of the stairs. Our first look at the bathroom revealed the oversized Jacuzzi tub but we decided to skip the jets when we found the shower...INSIDE THE SAUNA. Locating the shower inside a sauna room was definitely a first for us but so so nice. Our teenage Harry Potter fan also loved her private bedroom and the view of the passing trains tucked away under a gabled dormer. We highly recommend 24 East Main if you are in town to visit Saint Lawrence University. The entire campus is an easy walk from the house. You'll enjoy your stay and if Charles is cooking breakfast make sure you go with the omelette.
This was my first time staying at 24 East Main although I know the area well as a SLU alum. I plan to be back EVERY time I'm in the North Country! I stayed in the "Studio Suite," which is actually on the other side of the driveway in a different building. It was fantastic...super clean, comfortable bedding (hadn't slept that well in weeks), and a super-quiet room. There are train tracks nearby and I didn't hear them once I was inside the room. Brooke, Charles, their young kids (and dog) make for a tremendous visit experience! Their staff also cooked a delicious breakfast! If it's available, I highly recommend staying here over any of the hotels in the area. I can't recommend 24 East Main Street enough!
I have heard good an bad about B&B's in general and wanted to try one for myself. This was a wonderful experience. Our room was as described, clean and comfortable. It is right by the train tracks but I did not hear any trains at night and the building did not shake. I did enjoy watching a very long train one morning though but I am one who likes trains, riding on them and watching them go by. The breakfast was delicious. It changes from day to day and we enjoyed it all 3 days of our stay.
After searching for lodging in Canton on TripAdvisor, we chose to stay at 24 East Main Street B&B. I couldn't have made a better decision! From the conversations before our arrival to the time we left it was absolutely one of our best experiences in lodging. The room as well as the home was very nice, comfortable and clean. The owner Charles, was waiting for us when we arrived, gave us very valuable and interesting information for our stay there, recommended a great restaurant and was just very helpful. Breakfast was made to your order, a meal in which there was lively conversation with other guests. I can't recommend it highly enough. You will be very pleased.
Stayed here one night while looking at SLU. Room was beautiful and breakfast was delicious! The owner Charles was extremely helpful telling us both about the college and the area. Would definitely come back again.
