The Sagamore Resort captivates guests with its blend of historical charm and picturesque views, though opinions on its atmosphere vary, with some areas appearing outdated. While the amenities generally receive high marks for their variety and comfort, inconsistencies in service and cleanliness have been noted. The room quality, which some guests find lacking given the premium prices, has prompted discussions regarding the overall value of staying at the resort. Despite the grandeur, a number of travelers question whether the experience justifies the expense.

Michael A wrote a review Apr 8
Bronx, New York1 contribution
I paid pretty good money for our stay. I understand the hotel is a turn of the century structure, but I have stayed in plenty of them throughout New York, New England, and in Colorado. The lobby is very nice, nothing fancy but nice and fitting in the style of the building. Check in was efficient, but rather cursory, not much of a genuine greeting or welcome. Stepping off the elevator onto the second floor gives one the idea of what is to come based on the old, tired carpeting. The room my wife and I stayed in was in serious need of an update. Like 25 years past due at least. Very dark, dreary, dark brown vinyl like wallpaper. The shower had black mold in the ceiling corners. In addition, many times going downstairs we saw furniture in the hallways covered in dirty room service remnants. The food- Dinner, extremely high prices that do not deliver value for what you are paying. Watery Tomato Sauce on Wife's pasta. Asked for one meatball that was not heated up in sauce. Cold and had sauce poured over it. Very unattractive brown (I won't say what color brown but rhythms with herd) sauce on the noodles that had dried out chunks of chicken and brown overcooked frozen peas mixed in. We tried to enjoy these pastas as first courses. My wife's dinner featured halibut that was cooked to the point of having white protein nodules exploding out of the fish, with a risotto containing neon orange pieces of hacked up lobster that indicated a frozen product. The peas again too, this time nice and green but not cooked. My meal, a surf and turf, featured a frozen cut of beef lacking any seasoning and a lobster tail that was covered in a fake tasting lobster sauce. Lobster tail was frozen, and I know that as it did not feature a fully cooked shell red in color nor was there any curve to the shell, it was straight with a cut in between the two lobes of meat, separating them. Something you see with frozen tails at places like Red Lobster or Outback Steakhouse. Breakfast Buffet was fine, could have uses a bit more effort and imagination. Started off with being greeted by a very bizarre acting young lady who did not speak English very well and looked like she was critically emaciated. Whole Pears still with the Styrofoam wrapping on them? Does anyone eat those? And chopped up fruit in a bowl? Fruit that looked like Ray Charles cut it, no exaggeration. Watermelon that could be best described as nearly albino, not red, not even pink really, but after all, it was February. Perhaps no watermelon until July? The cheese board looked a bit like Ray Charles had got a hold of that too, or perhaps it was our other friend, Stevie Wonder? Instead of featuring 12 different pastries that come out of a box, why not have 3 or 4 excellent house made ones? Omelets were prepared by two lovely young ladies who were polite and presentable, so that was nice. Breakfast potatoes, obviously frozen cubes that come from the fryer and then served. A later afternoon lunch the next day at Mr. Browns featured an obviously previous frozen hamburger (flavor suggested as much) for me and a piece of salmon that was cooked to the point of no return, again much like the halibut from the night before in La Bella Vita. Vegetables, they gave up after the spending the previous hours in a stream table, limp and flavorless and half hot, half cold. Our server was himself out to lunch. Manager fellow wearing a sport coat with a Hawaiian style shirt? Well, call me traditional, old school. No dress code for managers it appears. Housekeeping was requested, they made the bed, brought linens. Trash not emptied, afore mentioned mold issue not addressed. Room not vacuumed as we had gotten some ritz cracker crumbs on the floor and they were still there when we returned from being out in the afternoon. Overall experience- We have friends that live in Queensbury, we invited them to dinner, to catch up. The hotel sits on an island and when you drive over you must stop at a small building where there is a security person inside. Our friend upon stopping was asked "his business". He was then told that there would be a parking fee of $20.00. Brief discussion with security guard stating that my guest and his wife would be spending money on dinner at La Bella Vita did not dissuade security gentleman from collecting parking fee. Perhaps he was afraid they would then crash the pool and dirty up $20 of clean towels? Pretty ridiculous policy. I inquired at the front desk if such a thing truly could have happened, and it was confirmed that "day" users of the property had to pay a parking fee. Please, may someone in management or above reconsider this policy? Seems a bit too much for a hotel in the middle of the country to charge for parking like a location in Manhattan or another large city. We did use the pool, which was fairly nice. Fitness room was very well appointed and delightful. Overall, the rooms need updating. That is obviously not anyone's fault at the hotel and rests with management and owners, but to charge hundreds of dollars to stay in a room that rates half the price down the road, featuring the same type of decor and furnishings? No. Check into Fort William Henry Hotel and get the same type of room for 300 dollars less. The food? An old historic hotel like the Sagamore should have a chef and culinary team that can do better than what they are putting out. It is 2024 and getting good staff and keeping them is hard. But the type of guests the hotel is looking to attract know the difference between Applebee's quality food and what should be being served at what is being billed as an upscale Adirondack Mountain Resort that is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. On a final note, we attended the chef's kitchen tour. The tour highlighted the small, outdated kitchens that are obviously very hot to work in, and then one larger kitchen which was very noisy and yet also had a tomblike feeling as it was total void of windows or fresh air. Perhaps this is why the cooks feel so uninspired and thus how it reflects in the quality of their work. House made cookies were lovely, a nice touch.

Our experience at the Sagamore was nothing short of exceptional! This marked our tenth consecutive year of making cherished memories with friends and family. Nestled amidst breathtaking scenery on Lake George, the resort offers picturesque views that never fail to captivate us. The staff’s warmth and hospitality ensures every moment of our stay is met with genuine care and attention. The rooms are immaculate, comfortable, and luxurious. The food and drinks are always amazing! The rec center is second to none, with a wiffle ball field, basketball courts, miniature golf, and way too much more to list! The Sagamore is an unforgettable blend of beauty, comfort, and unparalleled hospitality- a true testament to why we keep coming back year after year. Finally, a most sincere thank you to the amazing staff- you are all appreciated more than you will know!

Our annual stay at the Sagamore in Bolton Landing was nothing less than spectacular! We are always so impressed by the beautiful grounds, oversized suite with fireplace and welcoming staff. We indulged in top notch cocktails and delicious meals on site, and all the waitstaff were so friendly and accommodating. Our children absolutely loved the variety of options in the recreation center, indoor pool and outdoor warming pool - they were entertained for hours! We will definitely be back!

Great Getaway for the Family. It can be tough traveling with small children (a three year old and a six month old) but thanks to the wonderful staff and accommodations at the Sagamore we had such an amazing time. The resort also has the best breakfast and a wonderful rec room for the kids. We will be back again soon.

Another fantastic stay at the Sagamore! Our annual neighbors trip to the Sagamore resulted in 7 families making the trip to beautiful Bolton Landing. Adults and children all enjoyed the amenities at the resort from the pool to the recreation center. The lodge rooms were comfortable as always and the updates in the main hotel did not go unnoticed. The wait staff at all the restaurants were extremely accommodating and friendly as always. And whatever the dressing is on the salads at Caldwell’s ….. kept me coming back for more! I need that recipe. I look forward to my time at the Sagamore each year and this year certainly did not disappoint. .

As a child, I had vacationed in Lake George many years and had always enjoyed the beautiful and pristine lake, boating experiences, lake activities, etc. While boating on the lake, I was always extremely impressed by the grandeur of The Sagamore Resort, it was stunning. Recently, my husband and I were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity for our first stay at the resort, and it far exceeded our expectations. The resort was gorgeous and extremely well maintained. The staff was courteous, friendly, responsive and accommodating. The rooms were nicely decorated, the beds were comfortable, and the view of the lake was exquisite and breathtaking. We loved the activities at the resort and found that we really didn't need to leave the resort/island. Activities we enjoyed included the talk about the history of the resort, the cooking demonstration, the gym, trivia night, the singer at the firepit, lounging in the outdoor heated pool, to name a few. The food was amazing and delicious, and there are several great options to choose from! I'm thrilled that we are planning to return to the Sagamore for our summer vacation with adult children in a few months.

I wanted to say that I had a blast at The Sagamore hotel. The lady Shellie at the front desk was so nice & accommodating & the waitress at the pool bar & lunch named Eugenia was very sweet and attentive to our needs. She brought the hood out quickly and checked up on us the whole time we were at the pool.

The Sagamore was a disappointment. Our accommodations were sufficient but everyday was a chore to get cleaning service. There was a front desk associate that boldly accused me of not notifying the resort of my upcoming stay with my dog. I assured her that I had email communications with a Sagamore associate regarding this matter. I provided his medical records, age, breed, size, name and his therapy certification paperwork. I was told he was not allowed in the main building despite the fact that their policy does allow therapy pets in their main building. The associate assisting me with this matter was Monique White. She was adamant that I intentionally deceived them to avoid the $100.00 /day pet fee. I retrieved my email correspondence and was pleasantly surprised that it was Monique who had received and responded to my email sent early in December. I was directed to the Shift Manager, Connor B., who was very polite and understanding. He graciously offered me a bottle of wine. I declined. He then proceeded to offer me the typical corporate resolution of money.....a whopping $100.00. I paid over $600.00/day to stay there and I will NEVER go back. I will advise my clients traveling with their pets to avoid The Sagamore.

Dear Deborah K, Thank you for your review. We do have very specific policies on dogs and I am sorry that there was confusion. There should not have been. I was happy that you spoke with our Director of Operations Ms. Kerry Kane. Kerry was very concerned and will also work with Monique so this does not happen again. NEVER is strong and I can only hope that with time you reconsider. Thank you again and Happy New Year, Tom Guay
