Stayed two nights for our anniversary in the Black Dome room, which is a little set away from the main building and absolutely perfect. Modern amenities all around, wood burning fireplace and huge bathroom.

The property is stunning and in the middle of beautiful mountain scenery both close and afar into the mountains. The owners are very welcoming and the location is just far enough away from the madness of everyday life but close enough to food, activities and landmarks. Will def be back! A+++++

There is a lot to like about Onteora: the lovely location, the serene feel, the view of the mountains, the yummy breakfast. But, a recent stay left me feeling like the place needed some care and attention to warrant the high prices. The decor of the rooms felt dated, even a bit haphazard, with beds are on the hard side of firm. It felt like no one had paid much attention to the details that can make a stay feel worth hundreds of dollars. Clearly, a curtain rod had fallen down in our room and while a new one was installed no one bothered to spackle over the holes. The counters and cabinets in the bathroom showed signs of water damage. While these things won't ruin a weekend, they underscore the feeling that the owners' main priority is the wedding business and that weekend guests are just sort of a high priced after thought.

My husband & I went for a weekend for our 17th anniversary. The place is wonderful! We stayed in the Black Dome cottage which is up the hill from the main building. The views are spectacular and the room & bathroom were huge. the people who worked there were fantastic! Our breakfast for both days was beyond delicious. It's about 15 mins away from the town of Woodstock which has a bunch of quaint shops along main street. We ate at The Red Onion in Saugerties (about 15 mins away) & it was amazing. Will try Cucina restaurant when we go back. Heard wonderful things about it. Definitely a great place to get away or have a wedding as well.

Just attended my niece's wedding at Onteora Mountain - it was wonderful!
Everything went smoothly, the staff is delightful, the food delicious and innovative (those artichoke/spinach crostinis and watermelon cubes - yum!), the venue is breathtaking! We got to use all three areas: the sun room, the pavilion and of course the patio. With the lush vegetation all around, it made it even more beautiful.
Thank you for all your hard work that contributed to a magnificent wedding party!

I decided to take my husband away to Onteora House to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. What a disappointment at $285 per night. When we arrived, we were greeted by a cold, stodgy innkeeper, who was not inviting at all, to say the least. He gave us a quick, disinterested tour of the main house, then pointed us in the direction of our cottage, the Black Dome, and off we were sent. No offer to help us with our luggage, and if you stay there, you will see that a billy goat is best suited to get up to where the cottages are located. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was large, and the air-flow tub was delightful. Breakfast was exactly the same both mornings, and we had the pleasure of being served by the stodgy innkeeper, in his bare feet. The spectacular view helped keep our minds off these minor details. Onteora House would make for a great location for weddings, but as a weekend getaway, the Innkeeper's attitude took away from what could have been a charming experience.

Onteora Mountain House is the kind of place we'd want to keep a secret to keep it all to ourselves! We're from Denmark, Europe, and stayed at the Onteora Mountain House for one night in August 2011. We had found the place on the web and completely fell in love with the place on the basis of the photos. As it turned out, those photos did not do the place any justice at all - the views are simply breathtaking and you can easily spend hours just sitting on the wrap-around porch enjoying the views of the mountains.

The house itself is a real gem too. It's more like visiting a very wealthy friend's place than staying in a B&B - so easy to feel at home and so many little details to enjoy. The house is spacious and there are only 5 rooms (+ 2 separate cottages) so the place never feels crowded, rather airy, serene and homely. If you crave solitude or if you want a private and intimate getaway as a couple this is the place. Staff is very friendly and welcoming but will not get in your way if you just want to gaze at the mountains. Similarly, the two dogs are friendly and sweet, but also very well-behaved and inobtrusive.

We arrived in the afternoon and spent a couple of hours simply taking in the views and enjoying the house and porches. Then we asked Bob for advice on where to dine and he made reservations for us at the Bear Café (highly recommended!) in nearby Bearsville. After a good night's sleep we woke up to another beautiful day and a wonderful homemade breakfast of fresh fruit salad, scrambled eggs and corn cakes with sweet pepper sauce. Freshly squeezed orange juice, good coffee and unbelievable views over the valley and mountains to go with that.

When planning your visit make sure to leave plenty of time to simply enjoy the house and the views from the porches. There are so many things to do and see in the Catskill Mountains but you will not regret it if you reserve some time to simply 'being there'.

Sadly, we only had the time to stay for one night - it was not easy having to leave the place and we will definitely be back!

Despite its close proximity to Boiceville, Woodstock and other towns the Onteora Mountain House feels remote in a wonderful way. In that regard, be aware that although it's possible to reach the place by bus or taxi you will need to go to one of the nearby towns for lunch and dinner for which you will need a car.

My daughter just got married at the Onteroa Mountain House a week ago, last Saturday and what a fantastic place to have a wedding. She wanted an outdoor wedding in New York, but outside the city and so she began her search. However, once she saw this place, she didn't look anywhere else. This Mountain House is the former summertime mansion of Mr. Hellman (of Hellman's Mayonaise) and has been turned into a bed and breakfast. You can rent it by the room during the week, but on the weekend, the entire property is usually rented for weddings and groups only, and that is what we did. We had it all to ourselves from Friday afternoon until Sunday morning after the delicious breakfast they served.
Located in the Catskills, out in the woods. Private, but yet convenient to the small town of Boiceville, and Woodstock is just 7 miles away. The main building has 6 bedrooms and all but one has a jacuzzi tub. Decorated nicely and with comfortable beds. There is a large deck and beautiful views of the Catskills. There is also a newer duplex type building, on the hill above the mansion, that has huge rooms and huge bathrooms - a great place for couples.
The wedding is a turnkey affair and they have been putting on weddings there for years and do a fantastic job. The only thing we had to supply was the DJ, photographer and the cake. We had around 110 guests and one of the key features about the property that my daughter was sold on - was the pavillion next to the main house. This is not your ordinary pavillion - it looks more like a ballroom and can be completely open on all four sides or can be enclosed in case rain caused us to move the wedding inside. Luckily that did not happen and we had gorgeous weather, but that was a Plan B option that would have saved the day, if needed. We did have the reception in the pavillion, with dinner served by Onteora and dancing and we could have easily sat another 50 people in the pavillion at individual tables that sat six people.
Bob, the owner of Onteora, met my daughter and her fiance in bare feet when they first visited the place. He reminds me of an old hippie. He has a partner who we rarely saw that does the landscaping and flower arrangements and is very talented at what he does. The staff, especially a young man named Jeremy, took excellent care of us and all of our overnight guests at the mountain house and then the rest of the guests throughout the wedding festivites.
We highly recommend that you check out their website and if you are in the area, just go and stay there - you won't be dissappointed. As the father of the bride, of course, I had to write the check for this party and I am still in a little shock over that, but on the bright side, this is the last wedding I will ever have to pay for and we all got more than our money's worth!

Onteora is such a hidden gem. We drove up to the Catskills from the city on Labor Day weekend, and luckily they had availability because it's the one weekend the house is not filled with weddings. Well, there's a reason that they are booked throughout the season with such events - it is insanely romantic, rustic, and perfect. We stayed in the Overlook - one of the rooms away from the house - and it was complete with a spacious indoor jacuzzi, a wood-burning fireplace, and a fabulous wood-post bed. The room was impeccably clean and the house and its surroundings unbelievably relaxing. The view was breathtaking, and the breakfast was delicious! Really a culinary treat. Overall, the perfect getaway from the city.

My wife and I stayed at The Onteora Mountain House for the second year in a row as our wedding anniversary getaway. Last year (2014) being our tenth we wanted to do something special so we booked one of the cottage,"The Overlook" which is seperate from the main house and actually built right into the mountain. The cottage consist of a very large bedroom with mini fridge, fireplaceand a kingsized bed. Plus very large bathroom with a huge whirlpool bathtub as the centerpeice. The window in the cottage give you a panoramic veiw of the mountain range and it is just breathtaking to wake up to in the morning. We have only been there in the winter FEBRUARY and it just beautiful then so I'm sure in the spring and fall it is just stunning. There is also a small deck area just outside the cottage which I am dying to sit have coffee on, but was too cold and snow covered both times I visited just my luck LOL. The house itself is huge and the dining room is more like a restaurant then any other B&B dining area I have ever seen very comfy and yet you still have your own space, plus that georgous veiw at every tables. Breakfast was just outstanding everything and I mean everything down to the coffee that I have ever eaten for breakfast was fresh and delicious. The owners Bob and Jeremy are gracious hosts yet they gives you space and freedom that gives you the impression of being there all by yourselves. The area itself is a few minutes drive from Woodstock or Kingston to hit a couple of great places for nice dinner or a band and a couple of drinks. So overall I 100% would reccommend The Onteora Mountain House to family and friends and will be going back next year for our little get away.
