#18 of 72 Specialty lodging in Okavango Delta
Certificate of Excellence
The archetypal Okavango game-viewing destination. Raised on decks on a beautiful tree island in the south-east of the Okavango, Chitabe Camp looks out across a Delta floodplain that is transformed during winter from dry rushes to lush oasis, one of only a few distinct habitats in this diverse concession. Back in camp, the thatched dining and lounge area provide beautiful views, while each tent exudes its own personality, aided by superb fine art wildlife photographs. A pool provides cool sanctuary in the heat of the day. Highlights: On this classic safari experience, game drives take in the different habitats - the variety of these ensures that there is an equal diversity of wildlife, including big game such as elephant and buffalo, but also a range of plains game species like wildebeest, tsessebe and lechwe in numbers that support healthy lion, leopard and hyaena numbers, as well as regular visits by wild dog and cheetah. The camp is composed of 8 tents: spacious en-suite Meru-type tents, individually styled; outdoor shower; double vanity basins. Experiences include: day and night game drives • guided walks (on request).

Chitabe is situated in the Delta and offers an abundance of wildlife, comfortable accommodation and friendly faces all around Catch a charter flight to the landing strip and you're welcomed with a cool drink and friendly faces The area boasts with great wildlife sightings and is great for photographers. We saw wild dogs, lions, leopard (with cub), cheetah, hyena, honey badger and genet. The herds of plains game are memorable - lechwe, impala, tsessebe, elephants, zebra and more. Out guide ensured we had wonderful sightings and that we could take great photos Each morning starts with a wake up call, breakfast and then it's off to look for wildlife. Arrive back at the camp for brunch and then it's time for a siesta. Late lunch before the after drive and then a three course dinner The accommodation is extremely comfortable and include an indoor as well as outdoor shower, writing desk, veranda and more The Chitabe team is very friendly and go out of their way to assist with anything you need Tips - camera, binoculars, hat and a warm jacket - laundry and toiletries are included so you can pack light - it's an informal place, so no need for formal clothes for dinner This is a top destination for any safari

We actually wanted a booking at another camp but only Chitabe Camp had availability which we took and were absolutely blown away by the camp. Arrived at the strip 1 hour late - our fault - but our pickup was still waiting for us! The drive back to the camp was awesome - we saw a lot of game and arrived to a warm welcome and an amazing meal just for our party of 4. The staff were so friendly and our guide Duke was absolutely amazing and went out of his way to find game. I have been to Botswana on many occasions before however this was my first trip where I saw a pride of 16 lions as well as a small pride with 4 cubs. Another first was a Leopard and a cub. The food was outstanding and would rate this the best we have experienced over our visits to Botswana. Thanks to all the staff and Duke who made this trip so special. They even packed us a lunch pack to take away with us when we left - cant wait to return !

What an amazing camp in Botswana saw so many animals in herds, on kills, many baby animals. The staff were over the top and entertained us with tribal music and surprise bush brunch. The guide OD was so in the know of tracking. A rare sighting are wild dogs and he found them.

I began my recent Botswana safari here with 4 days at Chitabe . Our host Dave Hamman was at the camp with his family and extended a warm welcome to everyone. Although there is a drought in the area and the landscape is parched, there are also watery areas and tree filled forests where wildlife abounds. My guide Tank was fabulous and found wonderful animal interaction to observe and photograph, including leopards!! All the people in my vehicle were cheerful and listened attentively to Tank's nature talks. The tents here are very well appointed and comfortable, quiet , except a bit dimly lit. Otherwise the service and food were good. Communal meals are served at a long table in the dining area overlooking the plain nearby.

Botswana safaris don’t get any better! Chitabe has it all - it is the meeting point in the Okavango Delta of several different eco systems that attracts an extraordinary variety of species. We saw everything we wanted to see and more with our exceptional guide Goodman, and, as he says “ the predator action here is insane!” All the camp staff are very attentive, the food is healthy and delicious and the updated main areas are chic and modern, yet maintain the bush camp feel. The whole experience was so immersive and wonderful we didn’t want to leave for the next camp. Definitely going back for longer next time!
