Me and my wife spent our first four nights of our honeymoon at Gunn’s camp and we loved every minute of it!
Adeleine and the team were super friendly and offered great service and food, in a very genuine atmosphere in the middle of the Okavango delta. The camp is not luxurious, but very well kept and offer really good amenities considering how far from civilisation it is located.
We got to the camp from Maun in a small six seater Cessna aircraft. The flight was smooth, but the experience might be a bit of a mouthful for people who are afraid of flying.
The highlights of our trip however, were the game drives and the walking safari we did with our guides Titus and Eddy. Without help of any other jeeps in the area, they managed to guide us to all of the big five during the first two safaris! We saw pretty much every animal we would ever have dreamed of seeing with exception of the cheetah. We counted to a total of 25(!!) species of mammals during our short stay. In addition to their excellent “Animal finding skills”, Titus and Eddy also offered great facts and explanations about the ecology and behaviour of the animals!
We would really recommend anyone who is looking for a real wildlife and wilderness experience to go to Gunn’s camp! You will not be disappointed! Just keep in mind that Mother Nature is fickle :), and there is never a guarantee to see the animals you want to see!

Gunn's is a six-tent permanent camp situated very close to Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve, in the middle of the Okavango Delta. It's not physically in the park, but most of its activities take place there. (I don't know why TripAdvisor lumps it with Maun instead of Moremi.)
All the basics of this kind of luxury camp were up to the mark. The tents were big and comfortable, with screened-in lounges perfect for a lazy afternoon of reading. The meals were ample and well-prepared. The free bar was open as long as any guests felt like chatting, & our fellow guests were a friendly, chatty bunch. The staff were all accommodating & working hard to make sure it was a great experience.
Activities are water-oriented--mokoro (canoe) rides & game cruises. The sunset cruises were especially pretty. We also took a game walk on Chief's Island (no white or red clothing). Elephants & hippos obviously come through camp--elephant droppings are easy to identify--although we didn't actually see them there. (What we & other guests came to call the invisible hippos woke us, which is great!) There were also baboons in the trees in camp. Mostly, I think the baboons were plotting what they could steal from the open-air showers.
This may sound like heresy, but actually going to the middle of the Okavango Delta--a gorgeous place--was from a wildlife perspective the least interesting part of a spectacular trip that also included the Kalahari and both land & water perspectives on Chobe National Park. My birdwatcher husband did not see a single species here that he did not also see elsewhere. Yes, go to the Delta--but make sure you go to other places in Botswana, too!

Gunns Camp is situated on a picturesque island in the Okavango Delta, overlooking Chiefs Island. The 6 tents have been refurbished and are large and luxurious. They have a separate lounge area and a semi covered outdoor shower and bath. They also have a large private viewing deck overlooking the delta floodplains. The tents are connected to the main camp by a small causeway crossing the wetlands, which are lit up by lanterns in the evening making it look very romantic. There is an elevated bar, lounge and dining room. Gunns Camp is a ’wet camp’ which meant that all activities are water based or by walking safari. Activities on offer here are mokoro (dug-out canoes) excursions and motor boat safaris as well as game walks on the surrounding palm islands. We saw amazing pageants with leopards, lions and African Wild Dogs, but there were many varieties of antelopes as well as monkeys, baboons, giraffes, buffalo, crocodile, hippos, elephants and warthogs. The Okavango Delta was to have been the highlight of our three-week trip to Africa this past Christmas. It was certainly the most expensive two nights of my life; unfortunately Gunn’s Camp was a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Meals were small and served in a hot and stuffy canteen rather than outdoors. The swimming pool was filthy. Bathrooms were dark and dingy (quite a feat considering they are outdoors) with erratic hot water. Guests were accommodated in adjacent tents within two metres of each other in spite of the camp being largely empty. The camp seems to cater to overland tour and fishing groups who pay discounted rates. We were the only guests paying full rate during our visit, effectively subsidizing the other guests. This apparently leaves them with additional funds to spend in the bar resulting in late-night wake-ups to shouting, verbal abuse and tent-side urination. The camp manager is ineffective, incompetent and inhospitable. After two nights we were pleased to be leaving an atmosphere that verged on hostile.
Arriving back at Maun airport we were not met by Gunn’s representative as per her promise. After waiting a half hour we eventually walked back to the company office to collect our car.
We wrote a follow-up letter to express our concerns and request the refund of one night’s accommodation (US$500). Gunn’s Camp did not address our concerns but offered a free night at their camp while still under current management. Current management appears to be the main problem and there is no inducement that could convince me to return here.

We are a family of three (husband, myself and teen daughter) who travelled to Botswana for 2 weeks in June. We spent 2 nights at Gunns and had stays at 5 other camps/lodges during our trip - 4 in Botswana and one at the Falls. I really wanted to love Gunns like I loved our stays at 2 Kwando camps. I knew Gunns would not be of the same level but I had met a number of people before arriving who raved about it (which probably elevated my expectations). Also the order of our camps probably affected our feelings about Gunns. Had we visited after Planet Baobab and before Little Kwara, it probably would have received 4 stars and I think my true rating is 3.5 stars (sure wish TA would allow a specific number or additional half stars). We were spoiled at Little Kwara and had just left there to go to Gunns. We started our trip at Planet Baobab and my expectations were very low so I was pleasantly surprised. It may be best to present my review on Gunns with the pros and cons.
Pros: beautiful setting especially in early morning and sunset; short flight from lots of camps so easy to add to the itinerary; less expensive than many water camps; a nice change of pace from 2x/day game drives; seeing animals from a different perspective; friendliness of most of the staff; comfortable tents, seeing a few animals we did not see elsewhere, the beautiful painted sink in our tent; comfortable beds; plenty of food; fellow travelers were quite nice. Cons: not as much birdlife as I expected, common areas needed some repair or serious spring cleaning (especially the wasp/hornets nests); our guide seemed bored with his job and like a rented horse wanting to run back to the barn at the end of a session cut outings a little short (more below); decent food but without the flair or extent of choices seen at Kwando; some stains on the sheets (perhaps from the water itself). We had hot water in our tent luckily(one closest to the main area) but we heard the other guests at dinner complaining about having no hot water; failed to recognize our anniversary when I specifically asked our travel arranger to let them know so I could surprise my husband and celebrate but NO acknowledgement no even a simple toast at dinner and I know it was not my arranger that dropped the ball.
It is interesting how with a little additional effort with minimal if any extra costs camps like Gunns could elevate the experience for guests. I liked Gunns generally and am glad I had a few days at a water camp, I only wished we done it second, our had a different guide who cared more or had just done a different camp. The one thing I really wanted to do in Botswana was a mokoro trip as I had been dreaming about Botswana ever since I saw a photo of a person in a mokoro with a elephant ahead some 20+ years ago. To me it was one thing that differentiated Botswana from other safari countries and was unique. This was the only camp we were going to be able to do a mokoro and the itinerary the camp made up for us did not allow for one so I was very disappointed. Our guide one afternoon said let's just do the sundowner at camp so we did. I noticed we were always last out and first back in and our water excursions never last over 2 hours. They have a pool but it was small and not too inviting but in really hot weather might be nice. Visiting warthog in camp was fun. A higher percentage of guests here were from Europe where in the Kwando camps we found mostly US, Aussies and Brits. If you are on a budget and want a water camp experience I still think Gunns is a good choice. We were happy with 2 nights even if the quality had been as high as Kwando simply because the outings are a bit of a repeat of the outing earlier that day. If you definitely want a mokoro or a walking safari check when you arrive to make sure the plan includes the things you want to do.

A wilderness experience in five start tent style accommodation. An experience not to be missed. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food, beverage and company were fantastic. Our guides, Dicks, Rodgers and Captain were outstanding and made sure we saw as many animals as possible. The mokoro is a must do. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Gunn's Camp is billed as a water camp. However the usual yearly inundation did not happen in March 2019. I was there in the second part of July. No provisions had been made to provide a normal safari experience. The camp did not have a single vehicle to use for game drives. Guest were expected to go for bush walks. The booking company, Odyssey World, as well as the camp had been notified months before that I was mobility impaired. They had not changed my booking to a camp that would have been able to provide services, made me loose an entire day (for which I had paid $ 1'000.-) and extorted an additional $ 169.- to change me to a different camp. Nobody at Odyssey or Gunn's Camp took any responsibility whatsoever.

I want to mention first and foremost how friendly the staff were. Our guides, Mots and Titus were such a good team. The managers, Nite and Veronica and Gertrude, were very nice. We loved when the staff performed with traditional song and dance on the last nite we were there.
Apparently there was a temporal migration during November, so there was not a lot of wildlife to be seen. I have been to several camps in the delta during previous trips with no shortage of wildlife. For this time of year, I would recommend Gunns to people who enjoy birds and who are not fussy about amenities. Tent 3, although convenient location and very comfortable beds, is exposed and hot; request one that is more shaded. There were some challenges to contend with at this camp but I have addressed them privately with my travel agent.

We had a last minute booking to Gunns Camp and were fortunate enough to be the only ones there. What a fabulous place. Each tent is well fitted out with views over the delta. There is a raised walkway from the tent area to the main meeting/bar area, so it is safe to walk around, but at night you must be escorted by a staff member. All the staff were extremely friendly and professional and we liked the fact that they came and ate with us and chatted around the table, rather than disappearing and only being around for activities. The personal attention was tip top. There was a choice of activities; game walks, mokoro rides and boat cruises. The guides and staff were all very knowledgeable and were amazing at spotting tiny frogs on reeds from quite a distance. This is an all inclusive package, and we didnt want for anything. Nothing was too much trouble and the food provided was excellent - considering there are no shops nearby, what was produced was outstanding. We would not hesitate to recommend one or two nights out deep in the Delta. Well done.

Beautiful tents and excellent wildlife viewing from the camp. Food exceeded our expectations. The camp staff were friendly, professional, attentive and hard working. The aforementioned is worthy of a 5 star rating but.. unfortunately the guides/polers (particularly Mr Shakapiro) that we interacted with lacked enthusiasm and parted limited information even when asked direct questions. This was such a let down because it's key for any safari that you have guides who are engaged and impart their knowledge of the flora and fauna.

The aircraft allow 20kg soft luggage including camera equipment. Speak to your travel agent to arrange for Moremi Air to transport your excess luggage to the next airport after your safari.
