If you love quiet, comfortable cabins, great food, super people, well taken care of horses and outstanding riding, then you need to go to Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch. This was my fifth visit and I have already booked for opening week in 2023. It is a "slice of heaven" in "the Gila". I have been, and continue to go, to several guest ranches and this one is by far on of my favorites.
An overall spectacular experience! Outstanding hard working and friendly people! Outstanding and very well taken care of horses! The type of food you would get at a 5 star restaurant and lots of it! A true back to nature vacation with no phones, no computers, no noise except the occasional bugling of a bull elk or the call of a coyote. This was my first time here, but not my last. I have already booked for 2021. Check it out, you will be glad you did!
My family of eight and I stayed five nights at Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch in November over the holidays in 2021. We have been to other Dude Ranches and we ourselves have owned horses for over 20 years. We can knowledgeable say that their horses are well-trained and demonstrated mild temperaments-all that you want for your riding experience. This ranch was just what we were searching for. The history that you will learn of this area is one of the many added bonuses. The off-grid experience is a gem, especially during these times of uncertainty when family needs to reconnect at best. The beauty of the Gila National Forest is incomparable and viewed on each ride from our fabulous hosts/owners Meris and Seth. It was a lovely experience and each cabin was unique and had everything we needed, plus added bonuses. The information that is sent to you before you arrive is extremely helpful, as to directions and items you might need. The meals provided by Chef Fred were amazing and abundant and the extra help that you might need from their manager Allie are all testaments to the fact that this ranch is a family sharing their ranch lives with yours. If you want a personalized experience with the knowledge that your hosts care about your stay, then this is your Hidden Treasure to find. …
I stayed 3 nights at Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch, and it was the experience of a lifetime! First, I was so happy to see that they followed Covid protocols. As a cancer patient, I appreciated that masks were required indoors, hand sanitizer was available before entering the dining hall, and eating took place at socially-distanced outdoor seating. This coupled with the fact that there were only 7 guests made this one of the safest trips I could have hoped for. Meris and Seth were phenomenal hosts who treat everyone like friends & family. The atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming, my cabin was immaculate and comfortable, horses were practically outside my window (so cool!), and there was even a whole jar of chocolate chip cookies waiting for me! Every meal that Chef Fred prepared was incredible! That's not an exaggeration. I felt like I was dining at a 5 star restaurant every day. The horseback riding experience was stellar. The horses are well cared for, and Meris & Seth help everyone understand how to ride beforehand, which is great for beginners. There's so much to see on the trail rides, too! Prairie, creeks, cliffs, cliff dwellings, caves, forest, etc. Meris also shares a lot of the area's history, including highlighting some artifacts that they've found. The rides were so breathtaking & peaceful. It was a phenomenal experience. In case you're wondering: - I was a solo traveler. - The ranch is remote, but very easy to get to if you follow Meris & Seth's directions. (Trust me, I'm someone who is often directionally challenged. If I made it, then you can, too!) - I was driving a Toyota Corolla and made it just fine. However, exercise caution if it's a particularly rainy season. Overall, I highly recommend this ranch experience, and I look forward to being able to do it again!…
This is my fifth dude ranch vacation. We stayed a week. I could have stayed forever. This is a ranch where one is off grid and surrounded by exceptionally well cared for horses. You will meet fascinating staff and guests. There were 8 guests the first few days and 9 the last part of the week. The camaraderie was instantaneous. The staff puts a heavy emphasis on safety around the horses. Three of our four were non riders and they rode everyday and loved the experience. The quiet was absolute bliss. The food was exceptional. FRED IS AN AMAZING COOK. This is a small ranch set within 3 million pristine acres of forest, meadows, grazing cattle, streams, and wildlife. Meris and Seth are amazing hosts. If you want a glamour ranch with lots of diversions this isn’t it. If you want to ride everyday, all day, with your “own” horse for the week, eat amazing meals, feel part of the surrounding wilderness, and make lifelong friends, then this is the ranch to visit.…
This was a bucket list vacation that went beyond our wildest dreams. The horses were in excellent condition, kind and well trained. The owner and the staff were the nicest people ever. The wilderness and Gila National Forrest were beyond beautiful. If all that wasn't enough, the chef is just amazing! Who would have dreamed we'd be served roast duck with apricot pecan sauce for dinner in the middle of a wilderness ?! We are definitely coming back. Can't wait!
The place is nested on this unimaginable amount of beauty and acreage. It is The National Park as far as the eye can see in every direction and beyond. You will see herds of Elk and deer and bunnies everywhere. The horses are sweet and smart making daily adventures unforgettable and a music to your heart. Soothing and relaxing. The history you find there will add excitement. Best place to visit !!! I am going there again next year.
This was our second visit to GTGR and it was just as much fun as the first visit. I love this ranch: small and personal, wonderful horses, beautiful canyon rides each day, beautiful vistas and the most amazing food that you will find anywhere. My dream week! Every thing is done right at the GTGR. You will love the cabins, the horses and the other delightful guests. Meris, Seth, Fred and Gavin are the best. I walked at dawn each morning and loved only the sounds of birds and coyotes. One morning I saw a herd of elk!
This was a great experience. The food was gourmet, the horses were gentle and responsive, and the cabins were well-maintained, cozy and comfortable. We felt safe during Covid - meals were delivered to our room, everyone wore masks and social distancing was easily maintained. The rides were amazing. We were able to see remnants of and learn about indigenous people from a thousand years ago. Really fascinating geography and history.
The most important thing to me in selecting a ranch trip is the quality of the riding, Geronimo Trail checks all the boxes. The horses are responsive, well cared for and well-loved. There are blue gramma meadows to roam, mountains to climb, creek beds to ford, forests to bushwhack and plenty of room to jog or lope. Added to that, there are 3.3 million acres of Gila National Forest to explore and social distance in. Our November trip included superb weather, year round spring fed streams to wade in and sightings of havalina, elk and coatimundi.
