Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch is a real western adventure! Horseback riding takes guests through open meadows, tall ponderosa forests, up on high hills where the views go on forever, and down into deep canyons with sheer cliffs and crystal clear streams. From the "Top of the World" guests can view the 3.3 million acre Gila National Forest, Aldo Leopold and Gila Wildernesses. Elk, mule deer, wild turkey, javelina and other wildlife abound. Pit houses, Cliff Dwellings, and Pictographs (rock art) of the earliest inhabitants, the Mimbres (750-1150 AD) to explore in the immediate vicinity. This is the land Geronimo and the Apaches roamed. Outstanding well-trained and responsive horses for every ability. Comfortable, well-appointed accommodations, warm hospitality, relaxed atmosphere, great food. Come enjoy the peace and quiet at our small ranch!

We were truly off the grid at Geronimo Guest Ranch. No cell-phone, TV nor internet. We traveled with our eight year old grand-daughter and she had a grand time. Food was great and the chef was very accommodating to our granddaughter's gluten free diet. The other guests and staff were all very friendly and made us feel welcome.

The horses and scenery were terrific for slow scenic rides. My wife, however, would have liked it better if we had split off into groups and she had been able to do some loping.

Cabins were basic and clean. There was no daily maid service, which was fine, but we would have liked to have the waste-baskets emptied on a daily basis.

Thanks so much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with your granddaughter! While we do offer some trotting and loping where the terrain allows for capable riders, when we have a group of all beginner riders, it is not possible to split just one person off from the rest of the group. While we do not offer daily housekeeping, we encourage our guests to let us know if they need anything at all during their stay.

This is my fifth dude ranch vacation. We stayed a week. I could have stayed forever. This is a ranch where one is off grid and surrounded by exceptionally well cared for horses. You will meet fascinating staff and guests. There were 8 guests the first few days and 9 the last part of the week. The camaraderie was instantaneous. The staff puts a heavy emphasis on safety around the horses. Three of our four were non riders and they rode everyday and loved the experience. The quiet was absolute bliss. The food was exceptional. FRED IS AN AMAZING COOK. This is a small ranch set within 3 million pristine acres of forest, meadows, grazing cattle, streams, and wildlife. Meris and Seth are amazing hosts. If you want a glamour ranch with lots of diversions this isn’t it. If you want to ride everyday, all day, with your “own” horse for the week, eat amazing meals, feel part of the surrounding wilderness, and make lifelong friends, then this is the ranch to visit.

This was a great experience. The food was gourmet, the horses were gentle and responsive, and the cabins were well-maintained, cozy and comfortable.
We felt safe during Covid - meals were delivered to our room, everyone wore masks and social distancing was easily maintained.
The rides were amazing. We were able to see remnants of and learn about indigenous people from a thousand years ago. Really fascinating geography and history.

Our trip was postponed for over a year due to the fires that threatened Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch in 2022. We had looked forward to it for a long time and there were so many good things about our stay: the well trained and well-mannered horses, the care that was taken to customize the ride to our abilities, the great food, the smell of the pines, sleeping with the windows open, coffee on the porch in the cool morning air, the Native American flute at the campfire…
We also appreciated the small things. You would be surprised at the places we have been where they were stingy with the TP, let alone provide Kleenex and paper towel. We left feeling like family and amazed at the job these two are doing, running the ranch themselves with smaller groups visiting at a time.
Thanks, Meris and Seth, for the great memories.

If you read that poem by Sandburg you will have a better understanding of the soul of Geronimo Guest Ranch. Our 3rd Anniversary, first time on a horse for me and many years ago for my husband. The covid pandemic left behind when we entered the "off the grid" forest. Peace cleared our minds of the troubled world we left behind. The welcoming hosts where like the warm light of our childhood home. The comforting food and cabin among the best. As unexperienced riders the highlight was of course our horses. We felt secure with our new four-legged friends who were very patient as we were treated to unparalleled beauty and history during our ride. We cannot express our delight with this most memorable anniversary and hopefully will return again.

Just returned from my third trip to GTR and the Gila, and already looking forward to our next return and more adventures, amazing food, and awesome riding.
The horses are awesome and the scenery is beautiful - something different each day, from views of the Gila, plenty of cows, elk, and other wildlife, to creeks running through canyons. Each ride and picnic lunch is filled with history and we always learn something new when Meris tells a story.
Chef Fred's food is amazing and certainly not what you would expect for the middle of nowhere! We had trout, duck, and homemade ice cream...
Meris and Seth are awesome. It is obvious that they care about the history of the area, their horses, and each guest that visits. Their horses are a part of GTR, with some having been there since the beginning of Meris's time at the ranch!
If you want to ride, disconnect from the world, enjoy amazing food, awesome scenery, and great company, there is no better place than Geronimo Trail.

An intimate ranch off the grid where owners and a small but awesome staff offer relaxing accommodations, fantastic food(best I've had at a guest ranch), and wonderful riding options. Their love of the Gila National Forest is evident, and the history of that area of NM is freely shared. They know all their horses, and there is one to fit anyone's riding ability. For me, a peaceful retreat where I could take early morning walks/runs prior to breakfast and the rides of the day!

This was our second visit to GTGR and it was just as much fun as the first visit. I love this ranch: small and personal, wonderful horses, beautiful canyon rides each day, beautiful vistas and the most amazing food that you will find anywhere. My dream week! Every thing is done right at the GTGR. You will love the cabins, the horses and the other delightful guests. Meris, Seth, Fred and Gavin are the best. I walked at dawn each morning and loved only the sounds of birds and coyotes. One morning I saw a herd of elk!

If you love quiet, comfortable cabins, great food, super people, well taken care of horses and outstanding riding, then you need to go to Geronimo Trail Guest Ranch. This was my fifth visit and I have already booked for opening week in 2023. It is a "slice of heaven" in "the Gila". I have been, and continue to go, to several guest ranches and this one is by far on of my favorites.

This was a bucket list vacation that went beyond our wildest dreams. The horses were in excellent condition, kind and well trained. The owner and the staff were the nicest people ever. The wilderness and Gila National Forrest were beyond beautiful. If all that wasn't enough, the chef is just amazing! Who would have dreamed we'd be served roast duck with apricot pecan sauce for dinner in the middle of a wilderness ?! We are definitely coming back. Can't wait!

Is all the riding nose to tail?
Answer from Gila575
Winston, New Mexico
We do not require you to stay in a line all the time and actually encourage you to keep some space between the horses. Where the terrain allows, you are welcome to spread out some, of course using good sense about where this is safe :)
