Travelers' Choice
Bartholomeus Klip offers authentic, luxurious African farm living at three farmhouses located at a working wheat and sheep farm, just over an hour's drive from Cape Town, set amid a 10,000 acre private fynbos nature reserve with a spectacular backdrop of mountains. The food is renowned, with lavish brunches and high teas, and a gourmet three-course dinner. Explore the farm and nature reserve on foot, on mountain bike or on a guided nature drive, or paddle out on our large dam. While the main Victorian Farmhouse offers an exclusive, full-board experience to a maximum of 10 adult guests, Wild Olive House (sleeps 6) and Heron House (sleeps 12) are very popular with groups of friends and families. Children of all ages are welcomed, and the houses have their own garden, swimming pool, large shady verandah and outdoor facilities for braaing. Brunch and dinner can be ordered to be delivered, or adults are welcome to join us at the restaurant.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bartholomeus Klip. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful; the food excellent and the facilities clean and comfortable. My only comment would be to perhaps offer a veggie alternative as part of the fixed dinner menu. Whilst I am not a vegetarian, I am moving more towards plant based foods, so a choice would have helped. That said the portion sizes were very good and it didn’t matter that I perhaps missed one of the courses. Also, I could have informed BK in advance!

Friendly, family atmosphere with fantastic food and excellent service. The game drives are great fun with a lot to see and learn about, even without big game. Charming in every respect. we only stayed two days but would have liked to stay longer and will certainly be back.

We had a lovely stay here in February. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we were delighted with several sightings of the Geometric tortoise. All the meals were excellent and the gardens are beautiful and peaceful. A wonderful huge swimming pool to cool off in too.

This was such a magical, wonderful time for us as a family and Heron House was absolutely perfect! The accommodation was everything we could have wished for and the setting beautiful. Seasonal flies and mozzies were a bit of a nuisance, but they can be managed if you are prepared. We loved our stay and look forward to the next visit. Thanks to all there for the help, service and delicious food.

This house, with the pool deck and veranda overlooking the nature reserve, is the most sublime place to unwind and connect with nature. The house is extremely comfortable with generous spaces, beautiful decor and everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday.

With a once year break between the last visit, I returned with 12 friends and had the most awesome week-end away in every sense possible. They were all blown away. Thanks to all the staff who always make the stay so special. We will definitely be back again!

We rented the self-catering Wild Olive House at Bartholomeus Klip for two gloriously relaxing days on this remarkable working farm. The accommodation is extremely comfortable with understated luxury and a very well-equipped kitchen. Long walks in the nature reserve and lake, against the backdrop of spectacularly beautiful mountains, are food for the soul, and the friendly, efficient staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. If you don't feel like cooking, scrumptious meals in the restaurant can be ordered ahead of time. We will definitely be back.

I celebrated my 50th birthday here (all 38 of us!) and we were lucky enough to book out the farmhouse and Wild Olive and Heron House. The accommodation is superb, wonderful touches (including William Morris mugs in the houses) and lots of natural light and pristine. Nothing is too big or small for Mariska, Esmeralda, Lesley and all the staff. The nature drives are informative and everyone enjoyed those, along with the fantastic high tea and then delicious dinners (including wagyu beef on Friday night). Brunch is a never-ending cornucopia of delights! We left the weekend happy (perhaps a few kilos heavier!) and we will definitely visit again. (This is my third visit this year!). Thank you to all at BK for making my birthday weekend so special and also for taking care of this precious place.
