We were most disappointed with our meal at Chaîne des Rôtisseurs restaurant in Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. While staying in nearby De Kelders we decided to dine here – but wished we hadn’t as this turned out to the dining low-point of our stay in the Western Cape. The restaurant has all the atmosphere of a hotel lobby in mid-West...

but, if you only come by only for a drink or a cup of tee it might feel a bit sterile. But then again it is not their main business. The location is very nice and unique, overlooking beautiful walker bay.

On arrival, after free cool drinks, our guide sat us down to explain all the activities we could do, and really planned our stay around our desires. Our guide (Gareth) was very accommodating, and the overall atmosphere at the lodge was relaxed but professional. An excellent place to visit for a family, with horse riding, a made up treasure hunt,...

This place is the icing on the cake. Separate lodges with pools, great foods and wines, outstanding service, and private serene location. We had a botanical safari---even though it is now fall in South Africa, our guide Nash, was informative and knowledgeable. We drove down to the most Southern tip in Africa----absolutely unbelievable. Food is plentiful, lovely gift shop, all...

We spent two nights at the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and loved every minute. The property is first rate, well kept and modern. The rooms were lovely (we stayed at the Forest Lodge). The food was perfection from the appetizers to the desserts. It was the best food we had anywhere on our two week African journey. Service was top...

My husband brought us here for our first anniversary. It's been a "bucket list" place for me and it exceeded every expectation! Celebrating nature, luxurious accommodation and services, delicious food and wine, attentive staff - it lacks nothing. The view from the bath and outdoor showers are incredible. Can't wait to go back!

Our eigth trip to this beautiful country, but first time at Grootbos. What we hadn't appreciated was the strong relationship with The Eden Project. We learned so much about the local environment, the local community and what Michael and his team do for both. We stayed at Forest Lodge, amazing room, spectacular views and great service. Also took advantage of...

Perfect location, perfect service, a trip to remember. Loved the room, the view was incredible and we had wildlife coming up to our decking (deer and a harmless mole snake who was sunbathing!). Hopefully get the chance to go back and experience it all over again.
