What a beautiful and peaceful place. Felt so welcome. The walks are superb and the indigenous gardens are too wonderful for words. The accommodation is first class. Will definitely plan another visit.

We spent a lovely day and evening on this absolutely beautiful farm. The mountain views are spectacular and the property full of well marked walking trails to enjoy for all fitness levels. Grant and Marie host dinner for the guests in their house, which is a warm and homey affair. Accommodation was comfortable with large beds and lovely patios with... More

Had a really nice two night break at the Retreat. Grant and Marie are very good hosts and you are made to feel very welcome. Great walks on well laid out trails in the mountains around the farm. Room 9 was great and worth the additional expense and evening meals, at the large dinning room table, were excellent. Personally I... More

It's not possible to criticise the beautiful venue. The location is breathtaking at the end of a quiet valley. The peace is just what we were looking for. The accommodation was comfortable and the wood stove was a particular bonus. Grant and Marie were perfect hosts. the food was excellent, as was the company at the large dinner table where... More

Marie and Grant are wonderful hosts and make you immediately feel at home, a sentiment that does not leave you while lingering at the Retreat. When booking, I had planned to stay for three nights but added two more days because I liked the relaxed atmosphere, the quietness, the good food and interesting guests, taking one of the walks or... We spent 2 nights at the Retreat and were very lucky to see snow on the surrounding mountains. A really tranquil destination with wonderful walks and exceptional bird life. The host was very attentive and served divine food. We were sad to leave.

The retreat is along the gravel road from Calitzdorp to the Cango Caves. Hosts, Marie and Grant are very friendly and run an excellent set up. We stayed in room 9 with our two children. It was clean and the inside fireplace-stove kept it beautifully warm. There are a range of hiking trails of various difficulties. Wonderful bird life. A... More

We spent two nights at the Retreat. It was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the smaller room in the Weaving Shed (#6). It was spacious and had a lovely porch to sit and take in the beauty of the mountains. Only comment was how cold the room was. We visited in the dead of winter so temperatures were quite cold... Our family of four enjoyed a relaxing and most enjoyable stay at The Retreat. Our days were lazy, taken at our own pace. Scrumptious breakfasts (with no obligation to have them early), tea served at our cottage, and home cooked 3 course dinners made this stay feel quite luxurious. The surrounds are magnificent, lovely to explore on foot and safe... More

Such a lovely place and lovely setting! We will definitely come back. The food was a delicious home cooked farm style 3 course dinner and a great breakfast. The company we had at the table were great and it's always nice for us to meet new people and share stories. The room was also lovely, it was terribly cold outside... More
